Wow, I never knew that. is it really that bad? Is it just because the game is crap or is it technical failings of functions and features?
In my opinion it's because SE realised that the game simply wasn't released in the state it should have been, and have decided to use the current state of the game as an extended beta testing ground to fix the game. It's a win for everyone - they have a large pool to gather feedback and suggestions from, and we get a free game.
If they can manage to keep steady improvements coming, I imagine the game be functional and return to a payable state sometime this summer.
Not exactly free when you have to pay for the boxed game.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

At this point aside from some minor tweaking all they really require is content.
no all it requires is a massive DO OVER, for combat, questing, content, ui. even the developers think so. anyone who disagrees is the worst kinda of brownnosing enabler on the planet.
Though I feel like I'm being trolled, I have to disagree. The combat is actually pretty fantastic once you get used to it (hint: plug in a controller and play it like a regular game, not an MMO), and they've made a bunch of gradual improvements to the UI with more on the way. As Xzen said, the one major roadblock right now is the lack of content. All the other stuff is minor, but it's the lack of things to do that are slowly strangling the game for many people.
if thats the case, why are they(SE)putting up polls talking about drastic changes to fundamental gameplay?

No, Tribe is correct.
I could live with a lack of content for a while if the core of the game and combat were fluid and fun, but they are not. SE built a game that has zero content and has horrible combat. It's like the perfect storm of how not to build an MMO.
Uggh, i said this on another forum but i'll repeat myself here. Tossing content on top of a flawed core will not please anyone but the people still clinging on. The entire fucking game needs to be redone from the ground up. I feel no connection with my character or the world. No amount of content will change that.
Why am i glued to the ground? Why is skill usage still locking me in place? Why are the skill animations so terrible? Why am i not given freedom of movement? When will SE get it through their fucking heads that this is no longer ok for MMO's? How anyone can say this nonsense is fantastic when we have Tera and GW2 combat to compare it to is beyond me.

It's not a problem in their end, Alderaan. Different games for different folks.
Also, if they were going to redo something it's going to be the combat. That's all that's needed, and that is hardly the "entire game". The rest are simply personal preferences.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
For the most part I don't see an issue with combat as I find it to be "fun". To each their own. I fail to see how the fact that I enjoy the combat but say that they still have a lot of tweaking to do to make this game P2P makes me a brown noser.

Indeed?
Correct me if I'm wrong but you "beta testers" still have to buy the client, correct? I've been part of a number of betas over the years and never once have I had to pay for the privilege of doing so. This a released game. A very poorly designed and executed game, but released nonetheless.
The fact that MMORPG has failed to provide a review of it is not only a disservice to the gamers who frequent this site, but also calls into question their ability to provide an unbiased and fair analysis in general. That they would only repeat what others have already said about FFXIV simply doesn't fly since they seem to have little trouble gushing over certain industry darlings alongside their brethren. It seems only this one gets a special pass.
I won't speculate as to the actual rationale behind MMORPG's decision, but I would like to point out that attitudes like the one highlighted in the quote are largely responsible for the poor state of the industry today. This kind of sycophantic willingness to overlook the negatives of a game, to the point of actually turning said negatives into a positive, is just the kind attitude that encourages more of the same. Worse, is acknowledging how bad it is, while still doggedly maintaining that it's actually inherently good. It's pure doublethink. I mean, have we really always been at war with Eastasia? Orwell would laugh.
Review the damned game. It's your job. Then review to patchups as they come out. It's also your job. It's sad that this is even an issue.
Back to the OPs point in the thread, if you plan to review it, you might as well, MMORPG. IGN did, everyone else did. If they are going to change anything it won't be any time soon. This is what people get in FF14 untill further notice.
Most of the little things have been fixed but things are still being tweaked. The game will always be 6 months behind schedule due to the launch. But hell, if you compare this game bulk content wise a few years down the road to XI. XI has more content than 90% of other mmos out today. Mmorpg can review it now, the score should be bit higher than the earlier reviews. The real review isn't until the ps3 releases anyway.

It obviously is a problem on SE's end, not ours. We're not the ones with a game continuing to hemorhage players even after updates andstill being free of monthly subs. Combat is the LAST of the reasons for it.

We appreciate your feedback regarding a MMORPG.com review of Final Fantasy XIV, and while I am not privy to our editorial schedule I will be sure to forward your feedback to the team so that they may consider it. That is, however, all that I can promise at this point.
With that said, insinuations that we are on the take or paid off are very much unappreciated and inappropriate. The MMORPG.com team and its writers work very hard every day to produce content that is interesting and relevant to you, our readers, and so these sorts of comments are quite offensive. Please be respectful of the MMORPG.com staff (as well as members of the MMORPG.com community) when posting on our forums. Thank you.

I would simply wait till PS3 launch for review. I think XIV is growing into something interesting, and heck SE aren't charging. PC dudes a sub.

It's because this game isn't even worth reviewing IMO.
Everything about this game fails - okay so it looks nice, big deal.
Worst online MMO ever. Nothing they can do will fix this (And I've probably played it for over 60 hours so I'm not judging from no experience).
Review it already MMORPG.com! Stop looking (and acting) like you were paid off.
