Oh for the love of... the difficulty is KILLING ME grrr

ElikalElikal Member UncommonPosts: 7,912

Sorry, just have to vent now.

Today I lost 1200 credits for repairs and another 900 for colas, almost all money I had, with some group trying to take Ultra Humanite. Most were even level 20, so 5 above the recommended level.

The difficulty of this game is... APPALLING. I have lost so much time and again with repairs and deaths, not to speak how the endless INSTANT RESPAWN doesnt even allow me time to type ANYTHING into chat without being jumped on by the 2-sec respawn timer. Added the fact that with this respawn my energy is depleted in MOMENTS. So I use the starter level 1 abillities to fight 90% of the time, because otherwise I can't use any powers when it matters.

Sorry, but this is just SO WRONG on so many levels, and I don't care rats backside that some claim to like it that way. This just isn't a spare time hobby for fun, this is a frigging E-SPORTS!

(Not to speak, that the powers have about NO detail in their description, like how much DMG they do exactly or how long the ongoing damage is or ANYTHIING so you can shoot around BLINDLY. It only says "does some damage". Well what, 5, 50, 500? We just don't know.)

The difficulty is ABSURD, and instances are even more overpowered. For any normally skilled gamer this just is no fun. And why cost repairs hundreds of credits, but quests give 9 credits? HELLO?`This is SO OUT OF BALANCE, it really isn't funny anymore, when the savings of DOZENS of quests and DAYS of work and tossed into repair abyss in moments!

Bah... maybe you made this game for some 14 Y/O hyper console kids, but certainly not for Joe Average PC gamer. WHATEVER the to be expected trolls are going to say to flame me! I rarely was so pissed about a MMO before, and if I weren't such a DC fan, I'd shrug it off and say, so what. But as it is, these days we don't have many other MMOs to play.

Over and out.

Grrrr

Ultra humanite isn't that bad at all,  the alerts get much tougher.  Money shouldn't be tough to get,  you should be getting enough drops per mission that it covers any repair costs unless you don't finish the mission and quit.   I never have a problem with getting cash,  though I may be one of those "above average E-sports" players you're talking about.

I'd be more than happy to hang out with you for a bit in game and just go through it with you though.  Maybe check out your build and see if theres anything I can do to help you.  Let me know, I'll be on in about 3 hours.

I used to have a problem with cash until they dropped the price of cola.  being on the pvp server then I typically repair a lot more than my toons of the pve server.

hate to be THAT guy but you're overreacting severely. The whole point of the rep cost is to make  a downside to zerging everything which people have a tendacy to do. Quests are not intended to give much money they are intended to give you loot which you can sell. Here is the strategy with ulta humanite

    1.  Destroy (at the least sustainer but perferrably all) turrets.

    2. defeat henchmen

    3. damage ultra humanite

    4. when he calls for reinforcements  or engineers ( engs first as you don't want the turrets repaired) defeat them.

    5. rinse and repeat

I 'm kind of wondering how you will vent for queen bee (not the mission one but the one inside the hive raid). This is not e-sports as this game is fairly easy to play. It isn't tekken thats for sure. Anyway if you want constructive help and you use the pvp  4 server you can message me as Ash.

I know Ultra Humanite IS the alert,  I mean the other alerts, Hive and Oolong are nigh impossible without a cohesive group.  Ultra Humanite is easy in comparison.

I think some simple changes to how you go about playing could really further your enjoyment.  I'm guessing you're on the PvE server,  I'd even run you through ultra humanite if you'd like,  it will be a completely different experience when you go through it with someone who knows what they're doing.

I keep seeing posts like this and honestly it boggles my mind!

I got myself knocked out plenty of times and it was always my own fault.

Im not saying the game is easy but i have never had as hard a time as other people say they have, it trips me out.

I've played half a dozen characters to 20 during this beta and had ZERO problems with the scale of difficulty, beyond trying to take on the alerts by myself. OP is blowing smoke because he can't handle it, nothing more.

I played on the PvP server too, so setbacks via other players are all over the place. Instances were cake.

Can't say someone didn't try to offer help.  So the game is challenging? It will only increase the enjoyment when you accomplish your goal.  As you gain experience it becomes easier.

I can't make you play the game,  I can only help you understand it, and go through it.  If the game was too easy, I'm sure we'd hear about how boring it was.  Some say its too hard and we hear about how its too tough to play.  In reality the game gives everyone a challenge which is dependent on their abilities, some of which people have trained, and others like yourself Elikal, that are untrained.   I offer to train them if you truly want to give it another chance.   On the PvE server my name is Masked or Deksam.   PM me if you're interested.

    well, "why not?"

It seems people have this idea that every game is going to be made for them. Now, I can't comment on this game's difficulty or another game's "easymode" play but it does appear that they have a specific audience in mind. Those that are more geared toward some sort of action oriented game.

If you do have concerns about how out of balance the rewards are you might post on their beta forums. Perhaps others are having difficulty. Or perhaps you are missing a piece of the puzzle.

But really: I like to play my games casually. Meaning: not like under constant stress or needing constant super alertness to everything going on. Yes, pickup groups are often not ideal. Yes, being in some super guild probably helps.

But you know: I just want to log into a MMO, when I want, do some fun stuff and have some success. I don't want to put so much effort into a game. Its relaxation for me, and bingo is just too boring. So I play MMOs. Games like LOTRO or the like. Where you just can get in, group up and have some fun. Where you CAN fail, yes, but you don't have to be on your toes all the time.

DCU just demands a level of constant alertness, concentration and coordination that just doesn't relax or entertain me. Now I value all the advise, but I don't want to play a MMO were I have to extra learn for. I want to go in and have fun, simple as that. Maybe that sounds dull or too easy for you guys, but that's how I like to play MMOs. And I just hate WOW. It looks simply FUGLY. Just saying before someone tells me to "go to WOW".

    "go to bingo then".

There is tons of people out there looking for a game like this, and you are supremely butthurt about it not being soloable enough, when it's more than soloable. In fact, it's TOO soloable. Just write it off as not something you are capable of handling and play something else, you've been dragging all this "game is too hard" stuff into the ground. For the vast majority it's a breath of fresh air, and took about an hour to figure out how to work the controls.

Never fear, this is a SOE title, so there's a good chance you'll soon be able to use real cash to BUY the gear you need to succeed at DCUO.

I don’t see it. I play this game on a pvp server half asleep while one hand is holding coffee, and I often log in do a quest or two and log out. I don’t find this any harder or demanding than any other game, (well unless you have you typical mmo where you have set a macro up to kill any given mob with one button.)

I’m not flaming but I really don’t see how its so hard and requires constant alertness.

I will completely agree to that,  and it only gets compounded on the PvP servers.  The constant alertness and concentration as you put it is exactly what is needed and does not allow for relaxation.  I use games as a kind of escape a lot too,  a way to unwind,  but this game, gets my adrenaline going when I get attacked by 2 level 20s at level 15 and somehow manage to pull it out.

Its all a matter of taste,  I just wouldn't be so harsh on the game because its the opposite of what you look for.  I see the DCUO Beta boards aren't treating you very well either,  but you can only play what you like.   Hopefully you'll find that next game that will cater to your playstyle,  it just isn't this one.

It *only* exists on the PvP servers. Nothing hunts you in the PvE ones, and any time you get whooped on is because you were taking on too many mobs at once or wandering through a group of them assuming they wouldn't fire back. A mistake that can even be made in WoW ffs.

I cannot conceive how hard it can possibly be to progress on the PvE server if the PvP one is cake as is.

I suppose you're right, I'm just in a more forgiving mood then usual today.   I will say that in some areas you MAY have a SMALL issue with mobs if you just blatantly disregard spawn points.   Metropolis General,  the MetroDome, and maybe the BestiaMorph area,  you really can't just "stand around" and allot your power points unless you move AWAY from the mobs.

But... seriously though,  you are absolutely correct GT

Heh, since you have a LOTRO banner, I assume we can agree LOTRO is great. It was just my difficulty level. Just log in, have fun, no great pain or hassle. My kind of MMO. However, after playing since day 1, I just have seen it all. *shrug* I am bored in LOTRO and I need new worlds. Just that devs make nothing for me. :(

I can respect that. Really. ^^

But I am stressed by stress. I just never could bear too much pressure and stress. So I find myself shut out of many otherwise interesting games. Why there just is no difficulty setting or different dificult servers is beyond me. It's not that all people are the same in skill or expectations.

LOL OP, i didn't even think twice about checking this out until i saw your thread. An actual difficult MMO? May check it out.

Nah, Difficulty's a distance 2nd to Guildwars...  Barely worth mentioning.  If there's one glaring flaw with the difficulty itself though it's that the Combat is so bad now that the Difficulty isn't worth it.
