Xsyon Earth 2012: Prelude: Release Date Announced

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

According to a new post on the official Xsyon site, the game is slated to be released on March 1, 2011. The site is also now accepting preorders for the post-apocalyptic game from Notorious Games.

Modern technology has consumed itself. War has ravaged the planet, opening a rift to another reality. The survivors of the grisly destruction rise from the ashes of ruin to encounter a world that has changed. A world that once existed only in the realm of mythology, legend and imagination has become concrete and very real. You have forgotten the past and are welcomed by a new primitive future.

With the disruption of the planet, ancient gods awake to once again exert their powers over the earth. The lords of nature have revived the wastelands, eradicating and subverting the remnants of modern technology. Creatures of mutation and mythology now populate the land. The ways of swords and sorcery have replaced the path of science and progress.

A year to late following fleecing and misleadings....no thanks.

In my opinion, the game still really isn't a game yet.  Too much missing - hopefully they will be able to add and fix everything over the next two months, but it appears they've run out of time/money.

This is from the lead dev yesterday:

"I've adjusted the launch date to March 1st. I can't push it any farther than that.

The launch of Earthrise or other games have nothing to do with our push to launch (I wasn't even aware of Earthrise's launch date).

There are too many players waiting for the final wipe and we can't continue endlessly at our current pace. One of the primary honest reasons is my health. I can't continue working 20 hour days seven days a week. We need to wrap up the current features, get players active and expand the team to make Xsyon the game that we all want it to be.

This gives us 2 solid months to focus on features. This may not seem like much given the delays over this past year, but to put things in context, since last March we've spent less than 2 months on feature work. The bulk of our work this year has been major revisions to the server and launcher, optimization of the client and fixing many problems that were left behind by our original programmers that are no longer with the team.

So, this will be the final push and I appreciate all of your support!"

The only thing is after launch the devs could end up working more hours to fix bugs in a released game.

I hope they are ready if health is a factor for the release date.

All i can say is i play the game, Why people are so bent on giving negative comments is beyond me. The game is fun! Honestly i think anymore the only people who post are the ones who have not played OR just like to post negative comments.

For those who read this, The game is a lot of fun. It is a different type of game unlike most out there today.

If you are looking for something unique give it a try :) Is it perfect? No, not yet But i think it will be. the game is not buggy, The Graphics are amazing! And the fact that you can bring a guild in and build your own fort/base etc whatever you want to call it. Is flat out amazing! Not to mention the game world is HUGE.

Ok I am gonna stop :) If you are on the fence about the game give it a look, Or take the plunge and buy it. Heck how many other games offer 2 free months of game time with purchase?

I have played and like the game. Combat needs some work but yeah I was just hoping the lead dev is okay since he mentioned his health and more work will come after launch

It's an okay basis for a game at least. I don't fancy the background story and they acknowledge that there is something wrong with the way combat is being handled by the game. But they are working on getting the combat system to function properly and they communicate with the player base. I must admit that I respect that they at least try to communicate and acknowledge their short-comings.

Isnt this one of the games being made by like 4 people in total?

Looks like an interesting game. I've learned not to touch betas so i hardly new about it.

20 hours 7 days a week? Once you're burned out you cant recover .. well, not very fast at least as your brain needs to rebuild and that is a slow process. Good luck with the game, ill check it out right away :)

Hey, I appreciate your enthusiasm for this title.  Don't get me wrong, I share some of that same interest, because this is my type of game.

Or, at least, it should be my type of game, but at present, it's not.  That's simply because it still isn't much of a game, even after 9 months of delays and several missed launch dates, it's still not close to ready.

The current version of Xsyon IS buggy, as it has been since I entered the "early access" (lol) last April.

The graphics are average at best for an indie title.  The models are subpar, and the animations are nothing short of terrible.

Then there's the combat.  Oh, lord.  While it has been slightly improved over the months, combat in Xsyon still has about the same amount of depth as Rock'em Sock'em Robots.  It's the worst combat I've ever seen in an MMO.

Amazingly enough, ranged combat also has the same depth as Rock'em Sock'em robots, meaning none.  That's right, a game that's going to launch in less than two months still hasn't implemented ranged combat of any kind.

The lead dev admits that the combat is bad, and plans to redesign much of if after launch.

    The skills: still incomplete.

    The building/tribal systems: still incomplete.

Xsyon has some great concepts behind it, no doubt.  But those concepts are pretty far from being realized at this time.

I like what I read about it, and honest truth is alot better than lies we have been served from so many other studios.

They need a playerbase now so I hope we can give them one

  • kishekishe Member UncommonPosts: 2,012

I give respect to them for coming out and saying "The game isnt ready but we're small and need the money" outright and honest.

Rohn I am sorry i must disagree, Graphics are bad? Are you kidding me? I have a top end system and on mine they are awesome! I am not trying to sound like a fanboy, But the team is hoenst with us players, They are ALWAYS patching out bug fixes etc. I guess we can just agree to disagree.

All i can say is the game world to me is amazing. Heck i run around just to see what cool views i can see on the mountains! Anyhow i hope alot of people will overlook the one or two negative posts and judge for themselves about the game :)

I didn't say the graphics were bad, I said they were average.  The animations are horrible, however.

Of course, everyone's opinion on graphics, and more specifically art direction, are going to differ.  No issue there.

Overall, the gameworld and mobs are very, very bland, in my opinion.  And, currently, the gameplay is severely limited, when considering what they've promised for launch.

Lastly, in my opinion, people shouldn't overlook positive or negative opinions about the game - they should weigh the credibility of any opinions if they are trying to use them as a basis for helping them make a decision.

Is Xsyon the worst game out there?  No, I don't think so.  Is it short of what was promised, and in what makes a game fun?  I think it is.

Graphics don't make an MMO. Some of the best MMO experiences I've ever had were on games that looked like they could run on a Nintendo 64.

Haha! Yeah.... almost seems like UO could have ran on a C64 with today graphics.

true true....i'll be following this game.....seems like real sandbox.

    Xsyon is an amazing game.

     Why?

     - It is a true 3D sandbox game (with avatars)

     - it focuses (to a fault maybe) on players, not bots

     - The devs are listening to the community and don't give us crap

     - as a player, you have a real impact and I mean you can leave a lasting impression in the game world

     - I would rather compare it to Minecraft (with better graphics and a social aspect) than to, say, Fallen Earth (with worse graphics and without bazillions of quests)

There are issues, no sugarcoating to that.  The make or break of this game, as I see it, is the community. Xsyon is player-centered to a fault. It needs players to create content like early days EVE Online. And it needs players for revenue.

So, basically, if Xsyon is either to soar or fail depends totally on us, the players. Even more so than other, big studio, games.

Ask turbine what ac2 did for them when people were left to build their own content.

People hate theme park games but thats what everyone wants.

People say they hate to be led around by the hand but thats what the majority want.

From what I read xsyon (oddest name ever.....sounds like a detergent) allows players alot of freedom.....too much imo.

......and to top it off xyson has ffa pvp forcing it to be a small niche game with  a small loyal playerbase and when players are left to create content small is not good.

    And so?

This is a computer game, a product aimed at a target audience. The majority is irrelevant, the game is not aimed at them.

MMORPG.com posters always seem to forget that a game is not supposed to be for everyone, it's supposed to be for a specific audience.

Even WoW targets a specific audience.. it just happens that said audience is the biggest one. The same sort of big audience that brings us countless reality tv shows, even when such shows are really stupid.

Put in an other way: The majority is the lowest common denominator.

*I have assumed Xsyon is another phonetic representation of Zion, i.e. the mountain that Jerusalem is built on. But with a spelling that would not be lost in google. It would support the lore since Zion is a center for several world religions. Also, , and here I am more widely speculating, the game is set in the U.S. midwest, possibly near Zion national park.

I plan to check it out, though it will have some strong competition with Fallen Earth and Earthrise for me. I am probably somewhere in the middle with the sandbox v. theme park concepts. I like to start out theme parky, and get to a sandbox endgame.

Yes. I would also say that Xsyon is the most true full sandbox game I have seen. No NPC cities, no NPC currency EVERYTHING is player driven. Except for the NPC animals. And that may change later too.

Its looks like the game simply takes a different approach in that its a hobby game, similar to counter strike before it went retail. Your monthly fee gives you the ability to shape the development and support the development. Dont expect a AAA game, and they wont tell you its a AAA game, and youll do fine.

i may be mistaken but isn't this the same guy who made the roma victor mmo? turned out to be an awful game with real bad customer service.
