I would definetly try 2D graphic MMO. But Ultimas Isometric was always wierd.

Either go for Diablo style isometric , or for stylised flat side look

I absolutely love the 2.5 view.  I would play an MMO like that again in a heartbeat.  There is only one thing I would want which is the same as UO. . the map can not rotate.  I am severely directionally challenged.  In UO I could find my way around no problem.   In 3D games (without in game maps - Xsyon, MO etc) I think I am heading somewhere only to end up right back at the same spot.

People will argue that this is more immersive but when the terrain all looks so similar as it does in a game there is a distinct disadvantage to someone with my "problem" ;P

There was also something about seeing your guy from that perspective.  You could certainly make a huge world etc.

That top-down 2D view was nice in its day.  Nowdays, top-down 3D view (like Torchlight) is what I would expect a remake of Ultima Online to look like (maybe with a option to go first-person-view on the fly).

Those models you made look great by the way.  I like how the giants are literally giants and wouldn't be able to fit in a normal human-sized home.

Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.
