Holy shit let it rest, if EQ2 won at an other gamesite and WoW wouldn't make it in the finals, would you guys just shut up? I'm not an EQ2 fanboy, nor do I even LIKE EQ2 (bought it, didnt like it) and I do like WoW, a tad, but this is just no way to behave for a 25 year old.
If ignorance is bliss, you'd think people would be happier when you point out what morons they are!

Of course WoW will win game of the year, its based on vote and WoW is the most played game.
Its like naming the best selling artist "artist of the year".
There is no "best game", as there is no "best artist" . Some people like pop, some people like alt, etc, same for gaming.
As long as your having fun, whats the point of trying to fight over wich game is the best ?
Nor WoW or EQ2 are the best game for me, i know they are for some people. Just accept YOUR best game is not everyone best game.
Look at those answers, owned ? pwned ? those kiddies need to learn to respect differences and to understand that what is good for them will always be bad for others.

Actually it very well could be the most played game at the moment. Blizzard hasn't released the current subscriber number yet so it's still unclear but it very well could be true.
And if it isn't already yet, it will be once it's released in Korea and Europe.
If you're talking about MMORPGs, then it is behind L1 L2, and I think RO(?) worldwide(it's probably the most played NA MMO now).
But I assumed you were talking about all games in general, since it is the award for Game of the Year, not MMO of the year. If you're talking about all games, there are plenty of games that have sold more than WoW... Halo 2 sold something like 2mil in it's first week, and that's just one of many.

thats fair enough altho i was assuming they meant mmorpg's. L1 and L2 currently have moere subscribers than WoW? Jeez, how many people play that game? I mean i'd think they'd all move to the new one, or at least one would affect the other. Speaking of that, i wonder how the EQ1pops changed once EQ2 released...
HALF LIFE 2 needs to be the game of the year. I hate WoW but thats just me. Its not a bad game by any means, its just not my type. Just because 500,000 people play it doesnt mean im going to go spend my 50 bucks to play a game I dont like. You guys need to learn to play what you like, not what other people like

Yeah, I agree with you there. I would have prefered Half Life 2 to be the game of the year but that's ok. Although I do wish they had done the top 10 games of 2004 like Gamespy did. Much better then just having 10 finalist and 1 winner.

I would have to agree. Some of those games out of Korea have huge numbers of people playing in Asia. Its seemingly a big part of their culture and dwarfs the subscription rates for the games that we have. Lineage 1/2 may have the most subscriptions worldwide.
For North America I would not be surprised that WoW has the most players for any MMORPG at the moment with 250,000 copies sold on the first day alone. Also keep in mind that WoW will also be released in Europe and Asia in 2005

after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
...But for us poor Europeans that would really really want to play WoW but we can't yet :P
Anyhow, as pointed out Gamespot GOTY is based on the staff decision, later there will be the Readers game of the year and that is based on voting.
Why they gave GOTY to Wow? simple. They noticed how almost everyone in their own building was playing it. From console maniac that dislike Pcs to hardcore shooter fans to anybody (even the corporate bossess and the janitors)! while HL2 was a great shooter, it remained a shooter. people that did not like shooter were not playing it. WoW broke the Genre barrier like few other games did before it and that is why it got GOTY at gamespot.

Further proof that World of Warcraft is the BEST mmorpg ever created. Everquest II sucks from what reviews I've read on here, and on the rest of the internet. Sorry EQ2 Fanboys but yoru conspiracy theories of multiple accounts posting positive reviews for WoW and negative for EQ2 is FALSE.... WoW is a BETTER game, and thus it has been proven on almost every website I visit...

Plus reviews are always biased, by the reviewers preference and experience and by the publisher who are often affiliated with other gaming sites and various gaming cie.
Anyway play what ever game you like, why should we care ?
