Some quick questions

Hi there!

First of all I wanted to say that I played CoH/CoX for over a year and haf a lot of fun because this game was pretty damn team based (sure you could solo but that sucked).

soooo... to all those who played the DC beta, here a few questions:

1. Is this game team based? Do you get advantages from teaming? Do ppl team or is this a questing grind fest, where everyone is soloing till max lvl?

2. Compared to other games (ofc at their launch) how unfinished is DCUO? Is there enough content or will I experience the same crap like AoC, STO or Aion?

3. stupid question but still: endgame content? Its clear nobody was able to test this, but maybe someone read some promising dev posts, even tho those are mostly blatant lies.^^

aaaand the last question: I love pvp and i love pvp instances like those in WoW, Warhammer and so on. Where you can have fast team based pvp. Does DCUO has something in that manner?

alright, that's it :>

mostly it is solo mission while waiting for queue for Alerts(group dungeons/instances) to pop.

There is a good amount of content meaning you won't have to grind out lvls because there are no quests however lvling is very fast so you will hit the cap where the fun really begins. ( I would compare it to guildwars since it was easy lvling but lots of stuff to do endgame.

    3. stupid question but still: endgame content? Its clear nobody was able to test this, but maybe someone read some promising dev posts, even tho those are mostly blatant lies.^^

End game content revolves around arena pvp, legends pvp(fighting as famous heroes/villians), solo instances, duo dungeons and raids.

Yes there are pvp instances which are called arenas (4v4 , 6v6 and 10v10) you can queue for them yourself or in a group. These pvp are incredibly fast, more so then wow or warhammer. you will have people shooting beams of death and summoning meteors and volcano's

    alright, that's it :>

Most of the leveling is solo. There's no real advantage to teamming for most of it other than the advantage of having a teammate. People will team up for things like "Wanted" missions where you hunt down more challenging npcs like Solomon Grundy.

You'll do mission after mission while leveling, but the storylines actually make the missions pretty fun a few times through. The leveling process never felt like a grind. That comes at endgame.

    2. Compared to other games (ofc at their launch) how unfinished is DCUO? Is there enough content or will I experience the same crap like AoC, STO or Aion?

The game looks great. A lot of polish. They still have a lot of bugs they need to fix and I'll definitely admit they seem short on content. The endgame repetition of duos, alerts, raids, and solo challenges can get to you. But it's still alright.

    3. stupid question but still: endgame content? Its clear nobody was able to test this, but maybe someone read some promising dev posts, even tho those are mostly blatant lies.^^

Actually, a lot of people were able to test the endgame content. Closed beta wasn't restricted to the level 20 cap. The raids require a lot of teamwork, but are a lot of fun with some pretty compelling storylines. Duos are pretty fun at first, but you end up grinding so many of these to get your T1 armor for raiding that you can easily get burned out. I keep hoping they'll lower iconic armor costs a little bit. We'l see what happens.

There is legends PvP where you can choose to play as iconic characters like Huntress, Batman, Harley Quinn, Joker, Bane, Robin, etc. All the combat takes place in iconic settings as well such as the Batcave. There isn't really anything that I'd consider a battleground, I rarely pvped so I might be leaving something out. :(

    alright, that's it :>

    Rather than making another thread...

How much of the game is instanced?  We all know instancing made City of Heroes bland.

Quite a bit is instanced, yet I wouldnt say as much as CoX by any means...

A typical mission will give you an objective in the open world. This is usually going to an area and completing a few goals. Then will send you to another area, again, in the open world and complete another few goals. After those, it will send you into an instance to complete more goals and complete the mission/story.

The fun comes, if you are on the pvp servers, when some villain (player) is working on the same mission yet on the villain side of the story, Meaning, your goals are different from theirs but you both have to complete the goals in the same area in the open world.

It's set up pretty well imo. Although, there were some humps in leveling where you didnt have a mission available. That, however, had more to do with the population on my beta server I think really. At the time I had trouble leveling, I still had like 4 alert quests available but noone ever queue'd for them so I couldnt complete them. So really once the population increases with live, and people are queue'd for alerts more often I dont really see much of a problem leveling. Even if you do all your missions/alert missiones, you can still run the alerts again and gain exp. Each goal you complete grants a decent chunk of exp and that is where the leveling comes from. Very little of the exp you gain is from killing things.

PVP server sounds fun.  Do you have to watch your back constantly or just in instances?  I would probably have the need to go afk at spawn often.

I bet it follows the same rules as other MMOs with 2 servers as well:  The better pvpers usually choose villains while the heroes usually choose the non-pvp server.

In instances you are safe, in the open world you have to watch your back. There also isn't any kind of level limitation on pvp. Meaning a lvl 30 can attack a lvl 5 for example. And in my experience they will heh. In the open world there are safe houses, these are basically vendors and mission npcs. It's safe inside there. There are also guards outside the safehouses that will punt any opposing faction member that gets near them across the city. It actually knocks them back and into the air severeal blocks, its funny to watch lol. Also the spawn locations throughout the city have a protective shield around them so you should be safe inside there. Although, I think I read that the shield was buggy.

    How's the balance?

I saw on the non-pvp server it was almost 5 to 1 Heroes to Villains.  I imagine its opposite on the pvp server.

You mean the faction population balance? On my server heroes seemed to have more numbers. That stuff will fluctuate alot I'm sure anyway.
