I've become addicted to this game!

spookymiaspookymia Member UncommonPosts: 57

I'm a casual player and enjoy this game. But recently I have become obsessed with it. I've reached the end game so am working on the task forces and they are really challenging (to most players). I'm on one that I have had 7 attempts at and now I am thinking all the time about how I can beat it. I still have three more to get through then I'm going to start working on the crafting which is something I never normally bother with. Can't wait for my next STO hit!

Disclaimer: I don't claim to be an expert of any kind on MMOs, or very experienced. All I have played is City of Heroes, Champions Online, All Points Bulletin, Global Agenda, Age of Conan and STO. STO is now one of the most fun MMOs I've played...doesn't quite top APB though. :)

okay, the game maybe didn't live up to the expectations, but does it mean it's a bad game? No.

As soon as I download the trial, I'll see how good or bad it actually is. Slow download though.

Somebody is takng my name in vain. Anyway, It's not my cup of tea as a game. But if the o.p likes it then I can respect that. Even if I don't understand it.:)

I honestly wasn't expecting much when I bought the deluxe download over the holidays for $5.  Much tomy surprise, while it may not be what everyone wants in a game, I've been enjoying it so far.  There are some bugs and some things that need improving...surely I'll admit it's not a polished game by  any means BUT it's a GREAT value for $5.  When I start paying is when I'll decide if I'm still having more fun than I'm spending. :P

Really the whole KDF side is crap, right now.  Though I truly enjoy the ship combat so far, the ground  combat is in a neat way. It still isn't all that great, admittedly, but it's enough to keep the "WANT AVATAR NAO!" in me content.

I hope the bugs are fixed and gameplay improves, because it's quite fun.

I am even watching all the TNG eps again. :P

Please the only challenging thing about the STF's is finding people who will get on Vent/teamspeak.  Once htey do that, you hope they follow instructions , because it's really not that difficult. If you aren't using any sort of V.O.I.P. ------> Failure.

Oh and your selection of  "MMO's " really is light on the MMO part.  CoX, CO and STO are basically the same games. GA, APB are very similar to the first three in the MMO sphere. I think this is more s sign of the crap being put out by Devs more then anything else. This wasn't meant as an indictment of you, so much as what's classified as an MMO and the Devs.

I've done some checking into the game recently and it has progressed a good bit from release. If they could get some sort of long term end game in place and get the Klingon faction up to near the level of the Federation faction, they'd have a real game. So, it's not a bad game. Seems like they have a fairly dedicated and active crowd too. It's not a great game, but the potential is there.

This is really their business model though, crank out a game in a year or two instead of five or more years, start generating revenue from the game and then eventually get the game up to snuff, probably at the five year mark.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I picked up the game for 5 bucks over hte holidays.  I had alot of fun with it until about level 23 when the missions pretty much dried up.  There was a couple really awesome questlines in there that felt really trek, but now since then it's been stupid patrol missions and such.

I bought the game partially due to the price, i figured i can surely get 5 bucks of entertainment out of it, which i defiantely did, but also because they had announced season 3 and it made it look like the foundry was on the live server in testing, which it's not.  the foundry looks like it'll really give the game some good content and this is what would have probably kept me playing as the star trek community will likely make some pretty amazing missions.  I really wish it was more obvious that the foundry was in testing on the test server not live.  I might check it out again once the foundry goes live and i have nothing else to play.  It's not as bad a game as it was when i beta tested it, but it's not great either.  If the missions i was doing through my teens would have kept on going i'd probably keep playing but those stupid patrol/exploration missions suck ass.

It is a very fun game to level up in.  One of the most enjoyable I've played.  So enjoyable that I bought a ton of add-ons from the store while leveling. They enhanced the game even more for a  trekker like myself.   I got bored with the 4-5 dailies being "End-game" content though. Once they get their ducks in a row to add the content they have been talking about, I'll be back and ready to help defend the galaxy.

What would you call your post history? I think it speaks volumes.

it would be an example of what happens when not only does your company produce an incredibly incomplete and sub-standard product, then market it as a finished AAA mmo, and then allow your completely incompetent management team to insult the customers that allready feel ripped off.

heres a hint sevenwind, i have been playing other mmo's for months. i dont post about them because i am playing them. they are FUN. i have quit playing 3 mmo's  since leaving sto and have now moved on to a fourth. do i post about them???? not usually, they have customers so i did not feel it was needed  to come to mmorpg and try to recruit people (i did let my friends know what was good and bad about them though).

they had 2 massive advantages over sto...

1- they were all decent games

2- their employees did not whine and blame the customers when people pointed out problems with the game, they actually tried to fix them.

IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME

Glad your having fun as that really all that matters in the long run. I agree the game has added much which was needed and am looking forward to improvements being added. Say what you might about its release condition, but I haven't seen any developer add more content than Cryptic has in such a short time. That bodes well for the life of this MMO in my opinion.

I think it speaks the opposite. No matter, in the end it's stil just your opinion of the game.

Just curious, are you playing as Klingon? If not and you are playing as Fed, you must have missed something. I have level two characters to Vice Admiral Fed side and not done many (less the 5) Patrol/DSE missions. If you are having a problem with the Fed side, I suggest you Hail Starfleet and see what is there.

And contrary to what the nay-sayers here are saying, STO has improved quite a lot since launch. There are currently TWO weekly episodes, each containing five missions. The third in the series is suppose to go live at the end of January. Also, the Foundry does look to be a great addition. It is also suppose to go live end of January (although no promises). Sector Space has been revamped. Crafting has been revamped. Klingon content has been added. Mission replay has been added.

Season 4 (coming late March or early April) will see a revamp to ground combat. There is also talk of conquerable sector space regions but that is yet to be confirmed.

All in all, STO is shaping up to be a good representation of the Star Trek universe. It is improving each month and I am sure it will be around a long time despite what those that are not playing say negatively about it.

Let's party like it is 1863!

Haha. No I don't work for Cryptic, but I do work in the I.T. industry and know how often projects have to work with low budgets and short timescales forced by the suits who look at the profit margins. I'm not saying this has happened with STO, but the regular updates and the communication by STO team are good by industry standards.

As far as my post history is concerned? I'm a positive talking guy! I don't see the point of whinging about something if I don't like it. Most of the time I will just move on. However, if I'm really enjoying something then I'll post about it so that people can see that there can be some enjoyment in a game. Like I said, I don't claim to be an expert player, and there are a lot of casual players out there that read these forums.

Anyway...I'm going to voice my oppinion again now...STO is awesome! Try it out, you might like it. :)

I returned this past week and its looking like they are improving alot of things,   these people who continue to hate it were like me once,  maybe the only differance is I ACTUALLY log in to see if its improving, while they just want to bash it.   Its thier right though.    I used to bash it too, thats how changes take place, but cryptic does deserve some credit with the new exec producer listening to feedback and making changes accordinly,  grandted not all stuff is being fully addressed yet, but major things are getting done atleast.

I did log on. Apart from the (admittedly very pretty) new sector space look, I did not see any new content for my Vice Admiral character. I logged off after 10 minutes of pointless flying around.

Sorry but the game is stil bad and lacking content.

I played a grand total of 30 minutes, in fact i did'nt even finish the tutorial.  This is how bad i felt the game was.  STO is the MMO's i quit the fastest ever and i've been playing them since 1999.

  • D_TOXD_TOX Member UncommonPosts: 269

Lol so you've played some of the worst MMO's ever to surface and none of the good one's.  No wonder you like STO!

What the hell is wrong with you? Why can't some of you just be happy for others that they enjoy something other than what you like? No you would just rather troll.

Contrary to what I would assume some did I certainly won't roast the ip for his opinion as truth be told STO for the first twenty hours or so can be a game one can sink his/her teeth into unfortunately for the vasty majority of us who tried the game around those twenty or so hours the game fizzles out very quickly.

Here's to hoping things stay as they are so we can one day see a free to play STO.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

STO most definitely has its issues, but its actually a pretty fun game.  Is it a Trekkies' MMO wet dream?  No, it's probably not, but a Star Trek MMO that fit what some people wanted would have probably been excruciatingly boring - a noble failure, even more than it's considered now.

If you enjoy it for what it is, and not slam it for what each individual thought it should have been, it can be a lot of fun.  I'm glad the OP is enjoying it.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
