Use IE.
Or, if you're using Firefox, if you scroll all the way to the top, you can click on things. But if you start to scroll down, things get out of whack. At least that's how it is for me.
EDIT: Then I don't know, works for me.

Well, you start as a fighter, then you get to pick from 3 choices by doing a quest at level 8-9 or so, that gives you a chance to try out the philosophy behind each type. When you finish that, you select your type and when you hit 10 that's what you become, and your abilities start to get more specialized to that type.
So you select Fighter at level 3.
At level 10 you select Warrior, Brawler, or Crusader.
If you selected Warrior you can be a Berserker or a Guardian later on.
If you selected Brawler you can be a Bruiser or a Monk later on.
If you selected Crusader you can be a Paladin or a ShadowKnight later on.
Here's a good general explanation:

And Allah has the rundown on what city you need to start in to get certain types, because some of the subclasses are only good or evil.
Alla's EQ2 Class Infoz including Good vs. Evil
For instance, and SK has to start in Freeport, and a Monk has to start in Qeynos. That is unless you intend to betray your starting city at level 18 and switch alliances so you can pick up the Sub Class quest from the other city and select that class. Ogres start in Freeport, so to get an Ogre Monk you would have to select Fighter, then Brawler at level 10, and make SURE not to pick up the level 18 subclass quest from Freeport. You would betray Freeport at 18, move to Qeynos, gain citizenship, and then pick up the level 18 subclass quest there to becoome a Monk.
Sorta cool, and the betrayal quest isn't all that hard from what I hear. Especially at 18. You can turn off XP so you don't outlevel if necessary. The hard part is avoiding doing any part of the "old" city subclass quest, which has been known to be bugged if you do them both, so don't even start it. By that time, you will be familiar enough with the quest system to know what it is and avoid completing it. Not sure if you can delete it altogether or not.
