(sandbox alert) Haven & Hearth new world starts today

If you're like me, you love the first days of an MMO.  Witnessing an unspoiled world being born and all.  Well that day has come for Haven & Hearth, as the server wil be wiped and a new world will open sometime today, Monday January 10th. 

The game is a massive sandbox.  Nobody even knows how large the world is.  There have been attempts to map the old world, but it's just impossibly large.  I have a stack of hand drawn maps on my desk detailing river routes to/from several player camps I had found, but you could explore forever and never reach the end of the world.  Yes it's not the prettiest, but this is about true sandbox gameplay with no rules.  



In this game you can build camps/fortresses, locate a rare mine to craft advanced building materials, grow plants to make foods that upgrade your character, rob and murder anyone, or just be a drifter wandering the world looking for adventure.  Everything outside the starting city is made by players.  



When you start, you just pick a gender and a name, then grab a few newbie items and head out.  There is a ladder that leads to a random location in the world, and a teleport pad that goes to the main town.  So you decide.  You can always make more characters later, but you can't go back.  Don't go up the ladder if you hope to see anyone anytime soon.  You could also use a "hearth secret" tostart by your friends.

Some starting tips;



1. Don't run without shoes or you'll get hurt and eventually die.

2. Use the forum for questions.  There is a learning curve.

3. There are ways to protect your valuables to a limited extent, but there really isn't any law outside of what groups of players enforce.

4. Bears will kill you, so be smart and run, unless you are well armed.

5. Leeches regenerate your damaged health.  They can be found in swamps.

6. Don't clearcut forests near player camps or people will be mad and may kill you.

7. Do NOT try to swim across a river.  There is a way, but if you don't know how you will drown.

8. There are tracking skills that can be used to hunt down a thief even if he is offline.

FYI: The server isn't wiped yet, just wrapping up the apocolypse now.  Should be reset within the next few hours.

Anyway, I neglected to mention this game has PERMA DEATH.  So be careful out there.

I jizzed a little in my pants when I realized it was permadeath. Now if only someone would makea game just like this but modern day with zombies. So far this is a well put together (graphically challenged) game.

It's a great game.

You will need to watch out for the Russian thieves and Team Liquid. They will both clear cut areas destroy everything they can't steal until you are able to stake a claim.

The website is overloaded, this happens about 20 times a day, just refresh in a while and you can register and download the game.

 It's an oustanding game if you really want a challenge. There is too much you have to do to be able to explain it here.

Oh, you can pick plenty of pine cones if you are really think that's what you would like to do with them.

True but your still not playing any of those game beside admitting your could play Rift would be a breach of the NDA.
