Got to agree on that as a con. I won't touch an SoE game after what they did to SWG and Vanguard.
That said, building a game to be console friendly is fine, as long as you aren't removing the flexibility of the PC.
What did they do to vanguard? SOE actually fixed vanguard. Sigil developed it and launched it in that horrid condition. Its playable now, thanks to SOE.
SWG was their fault though.
You're right on the bug fixing. It's how they abandoned it afterwards that bugs me.
I started doing a bit of watching of youtube videos and...here's what I have concluded:
Chat system, meh, who cares. I don't chat. I use Vent, and if anyone wants to play with me, get vent or gtfo (that's just how I roll, plus I'm usually with 2 or 3 friends on vent on the same game anyway).
Combat does not look like button mashing. Button mashing implies taking a hammer, and mashing on an arcade stick or keyboard. Button mashing is what scrubs and n00bs do in Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Marvel vs Capcom and countless other Japanese fighters. Sure, you'll beat other scrubs that way, but when you start mashing out HP SRKs against anyone who's decent, you'll be punished BADLY. This game looks like it might actually require a little bit more than "12345678" but not much more...might be a decent change.
Heroes are kinda boring looking, but I understand that you have to unlock costume pieces.
How does the auction house and other stuff work? Is there a player market? I enjoy games w/ player markets so I can monopolize certain sectors of the market and piss off many players =P For example, enchanting mats on WoW on Shadowmoon are completely controlled by me, Aion I controlled a certain grade of Aethers (forgot what it was, was too long ago). EvE Online I managed to control all the Raven prices at one point in Jita and etc.

Anyway, don't want to take this too OT.
It really depends how much DC is gonna nag/stab SoE if they screw this up. As you can see, the whole SWG thing happened due to Lucas Arts being idiots and SoE not having any back bone. WIth EQ2, I really have to admit it isn't a bad game....it's just whoever coded the engine needs to get fired and never code anything ever again or make very stupid predictions about what hardware will be 10 years from now (they thought CPU clocks would keep rising, yeah okay, if we all had liquid nitrogen CPU coolers or somehow shrank CPU sizes down to less than 10 nm, and even then it's still limited).
