Everyone is talking about GW2 and SWTOR, but what about ER? Could it be the sandbox mmo everyone is looking for? It seems to be far more then just a world death match like DF or MO, with much much more depth and the devs seem to get that the sandbox genre does not = just pure pvp, even though it is open pvp it seems to be a more deep game like EVE and it releases on Feb. 4.
The thing is that the Beta video doesn't look very good...well actually to be honest it looks horrible. They have a new beta build in they said so maybe that will help, hopefully it doesn't release half completed like MO.
IMO the game will either be epic win or epic fail, but not in between. What do you guys think since everyone here is clamoring for a good sandbox?

There have been several posts about this game. But as you yourself said. It looks pretty craptastic.
It's because the developer hasn't released enough information to have a decent conversation about the game. They all kind of go like this.
"Man, the description for this game looks pretty awesome!"
"I know! The beta videos were kind of mediocre though, what do you think?"
"Yeah, nothing fantastic...but even if the combat is mediocre, this other stuff is pretty cool, you know?"
"Yeah! I've signed up for beta about 3 times. Maybe we'll see something soon."
"I know, me too."
"Well...yeah...so how about Rift?"
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Yeah pretty bad.
Masthead even bailed on death animations and went with ragdoll physics kills, ugh!
Although... if they can deliver on the features they have on their list i'll play it.
I'm like most in the MMO genre of gamers we're a little gun shy about promised content and features and with how this game is looking and hardly any advertising it's just not standing out as a must have for now.
No one is talking about it because we all saw the recent combat video and it was underwhelming.

The animations look pretty weak but it's not that easy to judge from the beta video how combat will play; especially team combat. I'm just curious as to why I can't find any leaked information on the game.
By this point (the game releases in three weeks) you would think that at least some information/reviews would be leaked. The way I see it, the lack of leaks indicates two possibilities: the beta client is very bare-bones and provides little for the testers to comment on, or, the game kicks arse and none of the testers want to release info for some reason only known to them... Unfortunately, I've never encountered the latter.
First my disclaimer:
I want to try the game and probably will next month. that being said, my initial thoughts on the beta video has me going..is this Tabula Rasa mixed with Planetside? That's just the gist I got from it. Also the combat was underwhelming as are the music and graphics in the video.
Now I personally hope it's just a bad beta video and that the game itself is more complex, deep and fun than what we've seen. But that's my take on why it's a bit quiet on the MMORPG scene about this one. Hasn't been a good track record for sandboxes lately either, even though I want to play one that is just as fun as any themepark.
I was looking forward to this game. But the fact that it launches in like 3 weeks and all we have is a 5 minute beta combat video. No videos or info on chat,guild,ui,trade,vehicles,housing,professions or crafting = HUGE red flag.
Maybe they haven't leaked anything because they don't care if anyone buys it, maybe they are satisfied that they made the game they wanted to make and will put it out there for others to play if they choose but don't care to hype it up or give any information about it. Its probebly a play and find out what its all about. I like it this way, as I had been following this game a while back but forgot the name of it. I most likely will play it but I'm starting to like the "no leak" thing. I for once want the people who make the mmos to not make them for us but for themselves. I want them to just say "Forget the stupid idiots who type about our games, we made this game for us, and they should be happy with us just sharing it with them!!!"
I mean.. maybe we would enjoy a game where all of what we want and ask are denied and replaced with their wants, as it is not our game. Anyway I went off topic but lately i'm getting annoyd with all the games coming. I used to be crazy about mmorpgs and now its just plain stupid. I think these people need to stop making things that they think potential buyers want because even though people say they want this or that, or they don't like the graphics or combat of this or that doesn't mean anything because when it comes down to it no one knows that they want, they are just confused.
What can stop all of this crap is if Earthrise is what everyone calls a failure when it comes out, maybe those people who call it a failure should make some games for us to play, because they know what a successful game is indefinitely, truly what has giving information about games done lately besides destroy their future success? Sorry again.. i'm just so tired but I was on here and felt like typing what i felt.... good night.
Who knows, maybe we will see some more videos or menus on their website that goes onto more detail about earthrise. Ive read the stories about how this all happened and the different zones. But Id like to see how this game plays. Worst case scenario, I get all the info i need a week after launch which isnt a big deal. But it doesnt really make me hyped for the game either.
When I mentioned leaks, I was referring to public beta testers who leak information, not developers releasing info about their product. But I completely agree about developers following their vision and not catering to forum dwellers.

I am sure people will talk about Earthrise when they actually have something to discuss. We pretty much dont know much about the game, and the developer isnt giving out any info. Until that changes, it is just another game in development...
Well, not really in development. The game launches in three and a half weeks and chances are the game has already gone gold. How the game plays and feels will be the same on launch day as it is now.
Sounds like I'm in the majority on this - the game sounds like a huge hit - but we have little to go on. Weak combat videos and few specifics.
I read everything I see on it and have since it was announced. But I still know very little about it.

The game is in development until something changes. Sure that could be release in three weeks... but until they actually start letting people see the game, it is only something that can be talked about in a theoritical sense.
So, may not change much in three weeks.. but one thing will change (on release) it will go from something that we heard about, to something that can actually be seen.
Yet still as others are stating little is known of it hell what I know it only comes from following development from 05 till mid last year and the vast majority of info only ever made it to official forums with little offered outside.
Masthead either has no CM/Marketing or there just hasnt been anything happening and they are as many suspect a skeleton crew finishing up what was there just to ship it and make what they can whilst the remaining dev's work on FO:O assets
Have you thought what this means about operations?
If they dont have people to talk about the game now, and to work on building the community...
Who is going to do this when the game goes commercial?
It sounds like they need a publisher, because developing a game, and making it a commercial sucess, are two very differnt things.
The fact that marketing is not gearing up for this game and it is not really being talked about much is very bad in my opinion. Either that or they're planning on pushing the release date back.

At this point we have forgotten about Earthrise. I signed up for the beta ages ago when I was in RoM beta. Nothing has come across and I do have a policy on new games: No beta? Seeya later.
I got into the beta and was like yes! Then I went to bed like 3am and when I woke up I was in a cold cell somewhere in Armenia with a beta test terminal. There is a guard outside with a label on his chest..."NDA". He watches everything! Oh God!...the screams....please help us!!!!!
No one talks about Earthrise becouse the dev has done nothing to encourage conversation. They were extremely quite for months releasing single screenshots so how is it supposed to build hype? Now after months of nothing we get a release date, but we still know very little about the game. From the what? single video thats around the game looks nothing like it used to in the old screens.
The reason I'm not talking about it is because I know absolutely nothing about it aside from one blurry gameplay video and the few meaningless screenshots that were released. The Black Prophecy beta had a similar policy- one that I followed to the letter- but the developer had released an enormous amount of gameplay video and screenshots. Here it just seems like the devs have something to hide.
I was following this for a few years. I really liked everything they had planned.
after seeing the old combat vid(critiques cased a combat revamp) and then the new one and the recent lack of any real info....
...I have lost all faith in this being an MMO I will enjoy.
thiking darkfall or MO but with guns
Nothing wrong with sandboxes.
Nothing wrong with open world PvP.
But there is everything wrong with having full-body looting on deaths for most players of any game.
They already have two games you can die and lose all your stuff you've worked for to someone else in, and Darkfall is easily the better of the these three. From the vids this company has released of this game thus far, this one doesn't look even ready to launch on February of NEXT year, let alone in less than 30 days.
That's why no one is talking about Earthrise.
