Well there's perpetuum, but I mean if I wanted to play Eve i'd play Eve.
There's Archage which looks awesome, but they have a very small penalty for dyeing so there's no risk vs. reward but idk not much info is released. The videos look freaking epic however, the graphics are awesome. My only complaint is I am slightly tired of fantasy.
There's Xsyon, which looks like it's going to crash before it takes off, one guy is developing it, and tbh it's absurdely ambitious, far far to ambitious for 1 person.
Everyone is talking about GW2 and SWTOR, but what about ER? Could it be the sandbox mmo everyone is looking for? It seems to be far more then just a world death match like DF or MO, with much much more depth and the devs seem to get that the sandbox genre does not = just pure pvp, even though it is open pvp it seems to be a more deep game like EVE and it releases on Feb. 4.
The thing is that the Beta video doesn't look very good...well actually to be honest it looks horrible. They have a new beta build in they said so maybe that will help, hopefully it doesn't release half completed like MO.
IMO the game will either be epic win or epic fail, but not in between.
What do you guys think since everyone here is clamoring for a good sandbox? Any other sandboxes coming out?
Arche Age just looks... stunning.
I mean, its a long way off and we don't know nearly near everything about whats going in, but still... stunning so far.
At last, a MMORPG with ambition that is trying to reach beyond the mundane ghetto that we have been herded into by the insepid boring limited games of this generation.
XL say so mcuh that clicks with me it isnt even funny.. they seem just intent creating a rich vibrant open world for us to play our own game in.
/bravo.
I love pushing the graphics limits and I wish more games and MMO's did it. However, creating a fantasy level/race based MMO with better graphics isnt exactly pushing what is really possible with games. Exact same game, better graphics.
We could do soooooo much more
What more are you specifically asking for?
have you looked at what ArcheAge is offering (even now)?
I did actually but I couldnt find anything. I found a ton of graphical items such as screenshots and video some some bit about 12 fathers or whatever but nothing on game mechanics.
Can I build boats? Is there clan warfare? is there group crafting? is it classless system? does it have dynamic mobs? I dont know
Can you build boats?, the answer is yes
Is there Clan Warfare?, once you reach the original continent, yes.
This game alone make me realise how damned lazy mainstream devs are in their ambition. The typical MMOer will freak at the art style and etc ofc, but thats because they have gnat like understanding of whats happening here.
I'm afrad an open word death match doesn't equal a sandbox.
This. It's confusing why people keep saying Darkfall. I've played the trial of that and I don't see how anyone could consider that a sandbox game. It has a decent skill based system but that's it.
ArcheAge seems the closest from what I've seen but not getting my hopes up though.

Give me a few years :P
If being a developer means being quiet, mature, well-spoken, and disconnected from the community, then by all means do me a favor and believe I'm not one.

Compared to most MMOs, its very sandbox. I think the developers originally wanted it to be a perfect all encompassing sandbox, based on their list of original promises( barely half of which got in ). But they ran low on funds and had to focus on something, so just they just focused on clan warfare as the core aspect of the game.
Thanks, looks intresting. Looks like it basically like its a Darkfall engine with updated graphics. Now depending on how they do seiges, RTS stradegy and if they have naval combat it could be a win.
To others: endless debates over if darkfall is or is not a 'sandbox' is silly. The gaming industry itself has a twisted pervert use of the word to start with so your baseline is screwed up before even starting. Sandbox or not, its still awsomebox
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

thats all I cba to scrape up without too much effort, but should get you started:)
Ok I am SOLD!
Ididnt have a chance to view all of them eariler today, this game appears it could have it done right. Ideal would be to drop fantasy genre but other then that it looks very promissing.
edit: by the way I listened to a long economic lecture on how asia will drive the world culture much like the US has in the past. The reason they gave is because Asia will be the economic super power of the world. I think we can start seeing eveidence of this in games.

this is my point. there is just one succesful pvp-game out there: EVE.
and this game has no pvp-everywhere. the huge empire area is mostly safe. this is exactly the mistake, of these hardcore games like DF, MO and others. they cater just a minority.
in order to be succesful, you need huge mostly safe ghettos for the carebears. not that i like carebears, but even more i hate empty servers and dead games.
so Earthrise better has a lot of huge mostly safe areas.
It's not terribly often I see genuinely wise posts on this forum. This is one of them.
Technically, real life is 100% PvP-Everywhere... but much like in EVE, there are places we can stay in which we know we'll be 99.9% safe, such as the chair most of you reading this sentence are sitting in right now. Someone might break into your house and murder you, or an airplane engine might fall through your roof and crush you, but it's highly unlikely.
Games with constant danger almost everywhere, almost all the time will never succeed except in a very niche fashion. And while Darkfall may technically be a sandbox, as far as sandbox fans who don't wish to experience a perpetual gankfest are concerned, it may as well not exist.
