Hello there,
I wasn wondering if this game is worth pre-ordering. I wanted to get into beta but i didnt make it.I am playing WOW for over 4 years now and i just simply dont have that much fun as i used to and i feel like get into another fantasy mmo.
I am more of a pvp player so i would like to know if the Rift pvp will offer any kind of alternative to a WOW pvp. Is there gonna be any kind of arenas or ranked pvp system with some sort of challenge for the hardcore players?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Cheers

I suspect It's worth it for those that has pre-ordered it already. Whether or not it's for you no one can say. I'm a firm believer in try before you buy.
As for PvP the game has battlegrounds and pvp servers. I don't know about ranked arenas but I suspect the game will have something similar down the line. Remember WoW didn't start out with ranked arenas either.
If you are tired of WoW, then why are you looking for the same things in a new game? I'm confused
I'd like to echo Fib. Rift is very similar to WoW (not a clone, but enough similarities). If you are sick of Wow you aren't going to have a terribly different experience playing Rift.
I would definitely try before you buy.

if you like mmo's in general then you'll like this, its got all of the ingredients. It was a very good beta and the game looks ready for retail in terms of stability and early content. should be even better in 2 months. So a pre-order will be a 'safe' thing to do in this case.

Having just taken up WoW again after 3 years, I disagree with Fib a little. (Cancelled my sub after I finished the beta of Rift on the weekend).
Honestly I think this game might be perfect for people with WoW fatigue. Generic MMO fantasy enough that most things feel familiar but enough differences to freshen things up, which Cataclysm really didn't do the way I thought it might. The two things that I really loved almost immediately were the artstyle and the souls/talents system.
You really feel like you have some control over your character, both in it's visual design, and in making your own choices about what sort of character you want to be. WoW gained no new ground in either of these departments and I felt the locked in talent trees of Cata make the leveling process even more dull then it was before, especially the one point every two levels.
I think you would probably really like the way you spend points at your discretion on up to 4 paths as you level. I had a calling as a Warrior and then chose Beastmaster, Champion and Warlord as my initial 3 classes. Ended up ignoring the Warlord tree and putting 12 into Beastmaster and 8 into Champion by level 15. I could have split those points so many different ways, and even just reset and tried totally different class combinations.
Lastly the world lore of Teleria really intrigued me, and somehow made Azeroth seem very childish... I'll probably get flamed for that. lol

We only know the starting levels. Once people get to 50 we have no idea what will happen. Having no idea is also a good reason not to pre-order.
I know in the past beta I spent a significant amount of time standing in town queued for warfronts or joining dungeon groups (which you teleport to) Sounds like what you are describing.

I'm not going to recommend the game to somebody looking for WoW 2.0 telling them to blindly buy it. I wouldn't myself before at least trying it out.
I love the game but lets not pretend it's vastly different than WoW.
The game has an even worse hand holding when it comes to quests. You don't even have to read the quests, just the objectives. It even shows you where to go on the map. Doing quests has never been any easier. You check your brain at the door and just follow the arrow. Something that took an addon for WoW back in the day, this game has it as a feature.
The quest themselves comes in 3 variants. Kill x, use clicky on x, collect x from z mob. A lot of games has them but this game over does it.
It has polymorph but instead of sheeping it's squrreling, Blink, Travel in ghost form etc. A lot of spells and skills are taken straight from WoW. Not EQ or any previous game WoW was built on, but WoW. Hell they even added the same spirit healer at the spawnpoint
Battlegrounds are a carbon copy of WoWs battlegrounds with a small twist here and there and less strategical maps.
I didn't get higher than 15 in this beta but I bet you I can find a lot more similarities the higher up I level next beta.
Not trying to derail the thread but I haven't played WoW since vanilla and only a few months at that.

You are perfectly safe standing in Sanctum and/or the defiant city. Rifts are an aspect of the game, not its entirety.

I suppose it all just comes down to how you feel about your gaming experience and how you feel about spending your money. For me to drop the pre-order cost and 3 months of fees on Rift is nothing from a financial point of view, and I also don't tend to feel bitter about MMO's I try for a few months and drop. Generally I still have some fun (there are exceptions ugh FFXIV!)
Personally, I know I'll probably level at least two characters to 50, maybe one from each faction. With the amount of time I have that will likely take a good few months. If I get to end game and it doesn't look enticing, well GW2, Tera, TOR, etc. all on the way.

Well the thing is, i m so much into fantasy stuff, yet i didnt find a single mmo worth buying/subscribing (except wow).
I subscribed for lotro but i found the pvp system a major failure ( sorry to the lotro fans), i tried aoc which imo is currently one of the wors and most overrated mmos. The only game i really enjoyed as for the pvp content is warhammer.
The reason i want to switch between two pretty similar games (wow vs rift) is that i got used to wow in many ways, i just dont feel like doing the same quests over and over again, traveling throught the same zones,...etc.
Iwanna try something new like rift. I do not care that rift took many ideas from wow, wow is and will be an mmo legend so why not take the "goods" from it and implement it a different project.
I just wanna see something new, new mobs, new dungeons, zones, battlegrounds and stuff. If these are based on the same ideas as in wow, i dont care.
And yes, i agree that it would be better to try before buy, however,i wasnt lucky enough to get into beta. Was there a 5th beta test announced?
If you haven't played it then "no".
I can't stress that enough.
I'm going to preorder it because I found it fun and very alive over some other games I've tried. But I don't see the need to preorder something that is a gamble if you are not a gambling man.
The information about the game, pro and con, is out there. If it sounds like something you might find fun you could take the chance but quite honestly we dont' know how challenging it will be for hardcore players so you might want to wait.

Well if you enjoyed the play style in wow you will like Rifts. As your bored with the wow world maybe moving over ti rifts is a good idea.. now if your bored with the way wow play style then moving over to rifts will be a bad idea as its very similar..
Rifts is a well made game, using an engine that has been around for ages.. it also uses a lot of things from other mmos and puts them togeather very well.. but and its a big but.. it brings nothing new to the MMORPG worlds.. so if your looking for somthing different then Rifts is not the way to go.
Thx for the feedback.
I am not really looking for a great new ideas in mmo as i was quiet satisfied with the wow content. The only thing why im thinking about switching to rift is that i dont want to be in Azeroth anymore, i know every corner of it after 4 years of playing.
I am not going to preorder Rift but i trully hope Trion will offer some sort of trial time for folks like me who didnt get into beta. I
You are misunderstanding me. I'm not criticizing, but I am comparing. It doesn't matter if Aion does it or War does it. The things I touched on started with WoW. I can get past it and in some ways appreciate the removal of the obvious timesinks. Calling it a WoW clone is a stretch but it does share an awful lot in common. Not just the industry standard of UIs, trinity or other general things. Some of it is right down to detail.
The reason I commented on it was not to criticize. I pre-ordered myself. I also recognize it for what it is instead of trying to make excuses for it.
