this tells me they're literarly going in and removing your ability to collect gold past 250g. They're not leaving it as it is, they're literarly putting in time and effort to make your gaming experience worst.
no-go for me.
I don't see it that way as the primary reason to play CO F2P is the costume creator, and the powers.
you dont see that someone is going to do extra coding with no other goal but to make your experience worst and bully you into paying?
You don't see that Cryptic is a business and needs to get people to pay real money in order to stay in business?

My Live folder currently has a little under 5 GB. That includes over 1 GB in the Prepatch folder, which will presumably be gone when it replaces the live information at the next patch.
Right now my Champions Online Install is at about 3.5 gb. It may go up a little bit once Free for All launches, but I wouldn't expect it to go up by much.

I understand your concerns. However, I think that should you try it out, you'll realize that the in-game currency limit really isn't all that limiting. Almost any CO player will tell you that you don't need very much at all in order to be able to purchase just about anything in the game.
They'll also tell you that the cash shop includes almost entirely "nice to haves" and nothing that is a "must have" item.

There is no bullying going on to be honest from what I can see compared to other F2P MMOs out there. I am not sure how to best describe why that is the case, which can satisfy your question, but I think it boils down to the fact that CO, and CoX simply don't heavily rely on an economy or gear. So, for me, I find that CO as a F2P seems worth having to mess around with for fun.
There is no intricate robust virtual economy that mimics the real world, so the gold limit is a minor inconvenience. Now, if you like the game that much you may be inclined to subscribe, and of course that is the hook. But each person has to decide if they want to go on that hook. Not all fish that bite on the line choose to go with the flow, and sometimes that line snaps.
Just to clarify. I was unhappy with the beta and F2P is too good to be true. If I want to pick up the hard copy of the game I get:
Archetypes?
Access to those adventure packs?
Do I get the bag access or is that ONLY by monthly payments? Same for the costumes? If I play for my 30 free and just go F2P I lose access to those?
Seriously considering giving this a shot and a quick lookup said 7 bucks for a hardcopy of this game somewhere.
that is what I am still waiting on an answer about. If we buy the box, build a couple of characters under the free 30days, do we loose access to those character if we go F2P? or do we just loose the ability to make non-paid changes to them?
Champions Online going F2P is a great chance for me to get all my friends to play it.
Now that it's for free they might as well try it.
Without them it doesn't make sense for me to play it since the general grouping attitude in CO sucks. You will hardly find anyone to group with and if mostly only for that single mission one isn't able to solo. After that's done it's "thx, bye" right away.

As far as I know it works the following way:
When you subscription expire, you won't have access to your non-AT characters. If you want to play those characters you should either resubscribe or transform it into one of the AT(free of charge I am assuming). Not sure what do you mean byt non-paid changes?
Think that most benefits from subscription will dissapear if you go as non-subscriber. However, anything you have earned ingame( except from secondary bags and bank taps access) or bought at the c-store should be permanent.
The only thing you would get from buying the box is the cheaper 1 month subscription. While you are on subscriber status you get basically everything + a small stipend of points for the c-store.

Since the box includes 30 days of game time, you'll have a full 30 days of subscription (Gold level) time. This means you'll have access to everything outlined on our matrix here. Should you then decide that you don't want to mantain your Gold level status and remain a subscriber, you will lose access to all Gold features.
If your character already uses an Archetype, this shouldn't pose much of a problem. If you're using a custom Archetype, you'll need to convert that character to a Silver level charcater.
Hmm it seems pretty pointless to buy a box or subscribe for a bit, only to have the characters that you work hard to build up not be playable later on down the road. And how is the gold to silver conversion going to work? What if I make a character that has dark and force powers, none of those ATs are equivalent to those powersets, so my dark/force character will just sit there until I resubscribe? I think you guys should look at Turbine's method for these transactions.

Yea, given that new info I have decided not to buy the box as well. Even at 5 bucks, it seems like a complete waste of time and effort to start a character like that. My luck, I would work real hard to make sure he worked and would be convertable, then when I went F2P, find I had missed one little thing that would make him broken/unplayable after the conversion....
Sub game turning into f2p is a huge joke in my book. F2P is a joke. There is no F2P game. It should be Free to Log. Cause if you expect to play a game and no pay a dime for it, be ready to be gimp, severly gimped. Who wants to play a gimp even for free ? Not me.
You're only gimp if you play with someone else. Clearly this isn't an issue for Champions Online players.... ( ' :
Honestly, I don't understand people. Archetypes are playable for basically all content. The only 2 places they might(some ATs) get into trouble is soloing adventure packs which is also true for many custom made builds. The game by itself is pretty easy so ATs should be fine.
The only argument I find valid is the restriction in flexibility, but thats basically the only thing left to subscribers.
Also, it will let the game to have a more interesting pvp, since ATs will have separate pvp; so balancing a few ATs should be easier than balancing the numerous posibilities of the custom builds. I intend having a AT to check the new pvp dynamics.
Meh, their system of "F2P" seems just so incredibly rubbish, that I'm gonna wait until Cryptic announces 300% increased playerbase (and such marketing numbers), until I even give a thought of trying this game.
Cryptic's style of making games and billing them as complete games with a subscription and a cash-store, then keeping the juice on the cash-store forever and being rubbish about updates.
Nice to see Stormshade here making desperate marketing efforts. Good luck, bro.
PS. gimme a PM when STO goes F2P so I can cash in on my $2 investment of your other cash-shop-ridden-game. Geez, I actually wish your company would just create single-player games, because it seems you're experts in turning MMO's to them.
Starting Tuesday, January 25th, you won't need the box to come and try out Champions Online. You'll be able to download the full client for free, and play the vast majority of the game for free. (You can also download the full client now and start pre-patching by downloading the trial versions through Steam, our website or anywhere else which offers a download of the trial.
From there, should you decide to become a subscriber, we'll be glad to have you. Should you not, we still hope that you enjoy playing Champions Online for free!
I played CO back when it was in beta, I thought it was a decent game so I'll be giving it another shot. I'm interested in seeing how it's changed since then as well. Though I'll be cautious, since I heard on launch day there was some big update that made a lot people mad.
I was browsing the champs forums and started wondering about characters that go over the silver limit. For example if I'm gold and I make 4 characters and then switch to silver, what will happen to those characters since you can only have 2 on a silver account? And if I have a gold character and take them through some adventure packs and then they become silver characters will they be locked out of the adventure packs? With this game becoming free on Tuesday, I'm disappointed by the lack of information they've provided about these conversions.
Rift isn't that exciting, sorry to rain on your parade lol.
Question - When LOTRO was going F2P this website was inundated for weeks in advance with opinion and praise from this site. Did cryptic not pay mmorpg.com blood money to get the boost in advertisement or something? Nothing from the so-called editorial staff here. hmmm. Hell not a word since when october from this site?

At the Launch of Champions Online: Free for All, each account will receive one free conversion. Additional conversions will become available through the C-Store.
You can have up to 6 "Gold" characters on your account, and still be able to create two new "Silver" characters.
While Gold Accounts have access to the Adventure packs for free, you will lose that access to them should you become a "Silver" level player. In which case, you'll be able to purchase the Adventure packs for a fee on the C-Store. The purchase will unlock that content for all characters on your account.
