Rift will it survive in this terrible market or crash and burn upon release

What the title says. Will this game do well? I've played all four betas and see great promise in this game while trying to be original

Best MMO out right now in my opinion and Iv'e played them all... As polished as this game is now it frees up the Dev team to work on new content after launch...!!

Itll be fine, it does really nothing new but does have a high level of polish and quality, something that has been unheard of in MMO releases for a while. That alone will give it some speed out of the gate. Really its fate will rest on how fast and how well Trion makes updates for the game, addresses balancing issues and adds to the end game.

I think they've done an awesome job of creating an MMO that people will play and enjoy playing. I also recall reading that they have a year's worth of content waiting post release. They've been smart about not going overboard with the game, starting smaller and better rather than bigger and overdone. They'll do just fine.

Hopefully other game companies will catch the hint and release games that are actually finished upon release, with additional content waiting in the wings. They'll probably just try to copy the soul system or the rifts though.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

It's my opinion that it will do fine until the new games come out. Then it will turn into a Lotro or the like.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Much like stated above I believe it will be fine until something better comes along. They've taken many of the good ideas other MMOs have and put them all into one game it seems. The only reason I bought it was because of lack of anything else decent to play. Is it WoW, Warhammer, <insert clone name here>, yes but it's refreshing to finally see someone release a game that isn't switching from alpha to beta. While there have been some games which were released far to early (Global Agenda, Conan, Warhammer, <insert anything post WoW here>) and recovered, I feel it speaks wonders to have a game where people feel like it's ready to be released.

Rift subscriptions will be solid to healthy for the first three-four months AND until gamers reach cap level (50), look around and say to themselves is there or isn't there an innovative, purposeful, incentive driven end game here? How meaningful are the two faction wars, what do the Rift and Dungeon PVE look like, and is there a growing sense of loyalty to game, on-line commmunity and faction. Increasingly MMOs are about identity formation and sense of belonging, not just "smash em up". Secret World's have certainly hit on to this with the proposed new three faction concept. Lets just hope their publishing deal with EA doesn't wreck that foundation.

It'll survive.  It won't dominate or kill anything, but it'll be the dude, and the dude abides.

Rift has good enough production values and systems to it that they'll definitely find "their playerbase" and it should be enough to keep them going between it, End of Nations and the SyFy MMO.

Hell, I've pre-ordered it now after beta 3/4. When I first heard of it I thought it was generic drivel, when I played at PAX I thought I was right.

Then beta started, I could take more than 20min standing up to try it out. The class system was a lot cooler than I had expected, and the base content seemed compotent enough and having me deal with enough "cool target" objectives to mask the routine-ness activity.

When beta 3 started though, I really got used to what the Rift-events actually do and mean to the game world. They were all a ton of fun, and how they impact the surface felt really innovative in such a generic landscape.

I really think the game will actually do better if it has a few mid/low pop. servers around. The lack of people can let the rifts overrun sites, and give the game a solid balance of extra artificial difficulty overlayed in the world.

Plus I think it's fun having to do a small public quest event every so often to clear out the camp you need to turn your quests in at.

    Lets Push Things Forward

I knew I would live to design games at age 7, issue 5 of Nintendo Power.

Support games with subs when you believe in their potential, even in spite of their flaws.

Going to reiterate what a lot of people seem to be saying. However redundant it may be to some, it is still a different world with a few cool things thrown in (Rifts). It has PvP; and not just the BG's or Warfronts if you will, but open world I believe to an extent. Has some wow-like dungeons and raids for the PvE centric crowd along with the Rifts I have mentioned. I believe it will survive. Oh yea and also seems polished, very polished - probably because I've been used to seeing miserable launches/betas. All in all it will be what people make out of it.  I suggest getting in a good guild or play with some friends if that's your thing because it makes the game more fun.

I do agree with you it seems fix/balanced/ much more polished than the last beta phase and getting better with each phases. they really take to heart that they want this to succeed.

My opinion is that it will do pretty well / ok until the big name 2011 mmo's come out, then it will be do a swift plummet.

Turn into a LOTRO, that game actually did pretty darn well even before the conversion to f2p.  Good examples of turning into a flop would be Age of Conan, Aion, or Fallen Earth perhaps.

To behonest id be playing GW2 d3 and rift on rotation just cause one both gw2 and d3 are buy to play games and 2 req no monthly fee and just fool around with and have rift as my main game. im sure most ppl would do that like play wow then gw2 or d3 and so on and so forth.

im sure the star wars mmo will do fine and dcuo and what ever other mmo is coming out that i havent already mentioned but they will all do fine i hope.

This is exactly my opinion too. And I have been saying it in many topics already.

The game has already such high level polish in beta. I can't remember when I last saw this kind of polish in a beta. It has been that long!

It also gives confidence. As it just shows TRION Worlds has everything in order. Good management / leadership. Good experienced developers and artists. And so far (also impressive) really good Customer Support.

This alone is going to make this game succesful right out of the gate after launch! As they can immediately start working on content and new features. Instead of having to spend the first year or two fixing a broken buggy game, like pretty much all other MMO releases suffered from these past 3-4 years (LOTRO being the last exception).

So yes. Me and my gf have been part of the last 2 Beta events and they were great. Give us confidence and enough reason to pre-order.

I said I would never ever do it again. But with RIFT it just feels right.

Aion is the 2nd best sub based mmo after WoW still but i guess thats a flop indeed...

Well to be honest by the time those "Big Name 2011" mmo's come out Rift could be a "Big Name" itself.

Lets face it, it does not live up to the hype now.   The folks who made it want it to kill wow thus the were not in azaeroth any more.

It might be ok until something new and different shows up.

So for you lotro did well... and end up in the f2p market but Aion was a flop... and its the second game out there with most subs... you guys ever think before post?

    Meh.

I doubt that a MMO whichs Wikipedia page is still just a stub 3 months before release will be such a huge success.

Obviously nobody is excited enough about this game.
