I just bought this game. SUPRISE INSIDE!

I ran into best buy @ 10 oclock, which is when best buy opens. I literally ran to the pc games section, and at first i was panicked because best buys website says they're back ordered, and im buying this game with a best buy gift card...
To top it off, i couldn't find the game right away... i figured because this game had t.v advertising (like wow) it would be easy to find and fully instock (like wow) ... but it wasn't.. after about 2 minutes of restless searching I find the game... and there were only 3 left... so i was like... thank christ i got this game.
So i took the game ran to the counter, rushed home ( i live 3 minutes away from best buy )... I install... setup my account... soe's horrible patcher takes 2 cigarette breaks to run its update check on my E6500 Dual Core 2.93 Ghz system.. and then the suprise
A 2.8 GB UPDATE !!!!!!!
Now... you people with the expensive 6-8+ Mbit connections are like... well thats not bad... thats what... an hour right? Well unfortunately for me, I cant afford the $65 a month for a faster connection, so I'm stuck with 1.5 Mbit. Thats 5 1/3 times+ Slower then the standard high speed 8Mbit connection. Meaning that my patching will take ATLEAST 5 1/3 times longer then an hour...
So.... I bought the game but I cant play it for a minimum of 6 hours. And meanwhile my entire internet is hosed because all my bandwidth is being used for patching...
Now I know what some people are gonna say, and I'm gonna agree with you partially... I should just be patient and wait. Its no big deal. However, my point is that I was hyped to play and now I have to wait, that feeling sucks... and I'm here to warn all of you, if you have a medium speed broadband connection like myself... dont plan on playing for atleast 6 hours after put the cd's into your computer.
Also... if anyone knows any websites so I can look at the skill/ability trees please send me the link, I cant find anything and dcuosource's wiki is empty. =/

Lol, sorry to laugh, not quite as bad of a surprise I was thinking :P
But waiting for patches does suck though, I know the feeling all too well. Actually had something similar happen to me with this game when starting beta actually, after keeping sane for around 4hrs of patching I then spent another 30min+ creating my character, only to find out the server I created it on had a 13hr line up to get in, haha.. -_-;
Hope you enjoy the game once you do get in though.
Thanks! I cant wait to play... The only problem I'm having... (or thing im scared about i should say)... is that i'll pick a power/weapon combination thats imcompatible... or not as good as the rest, because I'm gonna play on the pvp server.
Heres an example.
You can pick fire powers that deals damage to targets that are near you, but then you can choose a gun for a weapon... which is ranged... Thats bad versus being fire, and a dual wielder, which would be best because you would melee, while constantly dealing damage to all targets near you.
Does anyone know where I can find a list of abilities so I can theorycraft for 5 hours while I patch?

Aw cmon can't be as bad as Mortal Online's surprise package. SURPRISE! An empty slot where a manual should be. A disc that was completely useless (you couldnt even install off of it, and the version of the game required a new full download incompatible with that version) . And, a blank disc slot for where a bonus CD should have / could have been.
It's almost like opening it up and seeing an "IOU" inside for a game lol

wow never realised how cheap internet in blighty is, 10mb connection, tv and phone costs me £25 a month, which equates to about $40odd dollars.
Me and a friend bought our copy from steam, I downloaded the 13GB in less than 40 minutes and my friend is still trying to download it lol. Youre pretty lucky considering this. :P
Edit to the guy above: Here I pay 66euro for digital TV phone and a 120MB up 10MB down connection.
I have a 4 meg DSL connection. Where I live thats the best I can get.
I can download 1 gig in roughly 35 minutes.
Disable anything that is using bandwith to free up space. I only have my AV running except for some msoft background services that I can't disable or shouldn't disable.
Six hours for a 1.5 connection seems a bit excessive.
All weapons have melee and ranged capabilities. Strange, but true. Some weapons are faster than others, some slower but do more damage. Character create gives some explanation of the weapons, whether they are better at melee, if they are fast or slow etc....
Remember, im 1.5, your 4, im rougly 40% of your connection.
2.8 gb downloading at 125kb a sec.
Thats 1 mb every 8 seconds. I need 2800 mb, so thats 22400 seconds... which is 373 minutes... which is 6.2 hours. =/

Well, thinking back now there were only a few things people tended to use, but this was beta so player opinon has likely changed.
PvP server seemed to favor either Brawler or Two-Handed (not dual wield), and movement types were either flight or speed, the powers didn't seem to be quite as important since you run out of juice to use them way too fast and the recovering rate was pretty slow, fighting was more about keeping your melee combo moves going (stun, knockdown, guard break, repeat) and saving your limited skill/power uses until you absolutely need to (2on1 type situations or to regain control of your combo).
Like I said though, that was beta, people have probably learned and changed their mind on what the absolute best option for pvp is now, but I would imagine the basics of keeping up your melee combo's is the same, so learn the button sequences well.
I bought it digitally online. @ 1:30ish...now I have 6mbit connection and its now 6:30 and I'm still at 2.2gb/12.1gb. I'd rather watch a turtle venture across the world.
Oh god... I LOVE my contry right now...
I pay half of what the OP pays for 100/10 Mb connection... So while i feel your pain about patch what i really feel sorry for you is the internet connection.
So back on topic... I think there is a Wiki page out there some were.

Haha well its no surprise that Europeans get a better internet connection.
A. Its cheaper to lay fiber optics in a country that is smaller than the state I live in.
B. Our communications companies are privately ventured and requires more overhead to invest and construct usually due to the sheer size and scope of areas that these communication companies broadcast their signal in.
This is why America will take longer to offer those highspeed connections at lower rates. Alls i know is that my company is laying a fiber optics network in the western 2/3rds of texas and it has been a slow venture for them. Thats an area roughly 70% or france.

For our size of, 300mil, we have the best internet for a country of that size on the face of the earth.
Acutuall just a small correction there are actually a little more than 500 million people in the US. And yes for our size and how many run on the internet here its unbeatable.
