What are you playing till Rift comes out?

ckoltaickoltai Member Posts: 30

So after participating in beta 4, I find that WoW and LOTRO really aren't doing it for me anymore.  There's only so much Call of Duty a man can take, and thus I find myself on the hunt for an MMO to pass the month-ish period between now and the pre-order head start.  Which brings me to my question...

To those of you who have pre-ordered or had a positive experience in Rift's beta, what are you playing between now and release?

I have it pre-ordered and am just biting nails waiting to play. I've already cancelled wow, not that I played that much, but still. Right now I'm not playing ANY games, just reading here and watching youtube videos.

I'm a casual gamer, I really don't care about not being able to build a character that far in a month.  I'm caught up on everything I need to be, and get out as often as someone running a startup in this economy can hope to.  Kickboxing gets me more than enough exercise, I shop locally and eat healthy, and my girlfriend and I have a great relationship.

Now that we've taken care of my personal health and social life, and bearing in mind that I've tried pretty much every free trial I can find and actually am looking for a real game, and acknowledging the point that the thread was asking other people what they were playing, can we move on?

While waiting on Earthrise (Feb 4th) which I will play until Rift goes live, I will most likely mess around with Gods and Heroes beta.

LotRO. Originally it was going to be WoW but... I got burnt as usual. LotRO has this very familiar and comfortable feeling and I really enjoy it. Graphically its stunning (imo) and I dig the quests.

I'm looking forward to giving RIFT a go. I pre-ordered it a bit ago but I've been in the Beta since Beta 1. I really enjoyed what I've seen of it. I've decided to skip the next three however, so I don't burn myself on it before it even comes out. :P

While I am neither a pre-order-ee or someone who thought (after all 4 betas) that it was good rather than generic and average... I might want to recommend you check out X-3 Reunion/Terran Conlfict. If you have the patience and ability to enjoy a space game with a completely dynamic universe, great graphics and a mod community thats constantly adding quality content, then you will have found a single player game that feels like a mmo.

You can find the Gold Box which includes both games for under $20 at the local game store. Highly worth it as its replay value does not go away.

If you want a truly scary game... one that is so well done that your heart will be pounding none stop...check out

    Penubra Overture and its sequel

Or the game that was made after those two, Amnesia  The dark Decent

Worth buying. Penubra might be hard to find but its a fairly small file (around 200mb for install) if you need to look for it on the interwebs, or you can get it on steam for cheap.

Lots of people taking an MMO break so far.  Is the current market offering really that weak?  Man...

I'm thinking about DCUO, big fan of the IP, but I was wanting something a little more traditional to get my pseudo-RIFT fix.  DCUO might make it in solely on its own merits though.

Tried X3 a few years back, it was definitely a very cool game but I don't think its for me.

Just got DCUO yesterday and its good fun, far better then expected. Other then that I would just play lotro, also a very good game, I play it when Ikm sick of wow and its free.

Im not playing anything in the mmorpg genre.  Don't get me wrong I love Lotro but after playing Rift with all the crazy shit happening all the time i dont really want to play a relaxing mmorpg at the moment.

    Playing: Rift, LotRO
    Waiting on: GW2, BP

I'm really impressive with Rift.  Having been in all beta events, I think I've seen enough of the game to form a solid opinion on it.  The devs have been incredible, both by delivering an amazingly polished game and by incorporating user feedback.  Their responsiveness to players is something all developers could take a lesson on.  Due to schedule restrictions, I tend to solo a lot in MMO's, and I have very surprised by how often I found myself grouping, and how much fun I was having in spontaneous groups.

Unfortunately,I'm married, I work full time, and I'm a full time student.  There's simply no time in my life for an MMO, especially one like this that was already drawing me in.

One reason I wanted this game to succeed is Trion's other project with SyFy.  After having dealt with Trion devs, I'm even more incouraged.  That idea could ONLY work with a developer capable of being truly responsive to the community.  I believe they'll pull it off.  Hopefully by that time I'll be able to spare enough time to actually play.

I am playing FFXIV, it’s good for a casual play through (with a controller) if u can stand the terrible UI and combat, should do for those hellish gaps between Rift Betas (seriously why so long?). No sub and the client is dirt cheap right now, also Gods and Heroes is ok(ish) if you don’t mind Beta testing like a SOB.

DCUO is keeping me busy right now. I am also playing some non-MMO games that I am enjoying.

That is the best space sim game ever :D I played that series for 6-7 years since X-BTF :D  BTW X3-TC doesn't really take alot of patience.  It's easy mode compared to X-tension.

I am currently just playing CoD Black ops and Rift Betas :D while waiting for Rift

I bought that Penumbra bundle thingie on Steam for a steal.

    I'm playing Forsaken World...

And testing out my new video card on games like Metro 2033, Dirt2, BFBC2, etc.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Penubra is well worth the money. Make sure you play in the dark if possible, and have an extra pair of clean undies handy since the game will no doubt dirty one pair at least. lol

If you havent played the Chronicles of Riddick yet, its also a must buy. Its one of those games that just leaves you with your jaw on the floor.

Right now it plus its expansion is going for $5 on Steam, though the deal ends tomorrow. If you can spare another $5 I highly recommend checking it out.
