But... if .. contentness is what hinges on getting your moneys worth, then how could it ever be said that this game isn't worth the 15 dollars a month? For those people paying 15 dollars, wouldn't that mean that they are content in doing so? Wouldn't that mean it is worth it to them?
Okay, I'll try one more time.
This game isn't worth $15/mo to ME, but it's worth a lifetime sub because they don't seem to have a lot of content now (with which you disagreed with many times), there is room to add on in the future. It's the perfect game to log in and play for an hour, do a dungeon or PvP and log out. You don't have to play this everyday or all day. For me, it's the perfect game to play with Rift, SWTOR and GW2. To me, it's like Vindictus with better characters, better art and better support.
For others (You), it's not worth a lifetime sub but it is worth a $15 monthly fee.
You only plan to play it until something else comes out, then poof, you'll stop paying as you said. It's a stopgap measure.
For other still, it's not worth money at any price a month, they'd only play it for free. (others who have posted here) They want a fuller, deeper traditional MMO that doesn't have hitches like clicking all day or crazy chat channels, crafting, and auction house, huge world, fishing, housing, dynamic content etc. They would play this but not at any cost.
I was speaking more about the minutia of contentment rather then what this game means to you or I. My personal opinion? If its worth 200 to you, its worth 15 a month to you. Thats how I see it. Consider it as more of an investment deal if you want, " its not worth 15 now, but it might be at some point in the future, and even if I only get partial enjoyment until that time, I will see a return on that investment in the form of my contentment with the purchase."
I just don't see it being one and not the other, in any case. Perhaps it makes more financial sense, or perhaps it is a contentment opportunity that will provide lasting enjoyment for years to come for your children, if you would give them a game for 250 dollars up front, I'd be willing to bet you'd give them a game for 50 dollars up front and 15 dollars down the road at an undetermined time of their choosing. Rationally it makes no difference in the end, other than, of course, costs associated in the short term and long term, but the ideas behind it are similar.

People play games to be happy and have fun most of all, so that's hardly a small thing of minutia. If someone paid $5 for a game and didn't like it, they'd be mad but if $5 wasn't that much to them they'd forget it in a month.
Someone paying $200 who can't afford that for a game they LIKE, would have a hard time paying for a game they sorta like in the first place. Because they won't be happy they spent the money, not how much it costs. $15/mo is a LOT easier for most people to swallow at one time a month per their budgets so that's why they don't do lifetime subs, whether they like a game or not.
I changed the above to what I think your proper response should be in my personal opinion. See what I did there? I imposed what I believe on what you believe and that's exactly what you and some others are doing in this thread.
You think I should pay $15/mo if I was going to pay $200.
Burnt thinks me or NO ONE should pay a lifetime fee whatsoever period.
Since you and he don't actually have to pay the $200, it's really irrevelant that he doesn't think I should or you think I should go with $15/mo.
Yeah shame on them for keeping the servers going because PEOPLE STILL LOG IN AND PLAY. It isnt like they are holding a gun to peoples head and saying subscribe or i will shoot.
The point wasn't that they should close the games down, but that those games are not being supported. Which is relevent to this topic. Considering that companies have used support and content updates as justification for the monthly subscription fee.
More power to the people that still find enjoyment in games that are being sold as-is, but this company does have a very long history of abandoning games and drastically slashing support and updates. Soe abandons games and breaks promises like no one else in this industry. That makes paying a huge upfront fee based on their promises a very questionable idea, especially when someone considers the current offering to not be worthy of the single month fee.
Ok you hate soe we get it , but seriously anyone who thinks that soe doesent provide content for their games is the one who has the blinders on.You may not like what they provide and thats fine but there are people out there who do or quite simply soe would shut their doors.

Changing my response doesn't change my opinion. Essentially what you are saying is, because money doesn't matter as much you can spend 200 and be content with your purchase. I don't care what you spend, the end result is the same. Spending 200 dollars doesn't change the fact that you bought the game and you're playing it.
In 3 years down the line, october 14th, at 9 AM, we can run into each other on a server, you after only paying the 200 dollars and me paying remotely the same amount of money across my resubbing of the game, and our contentment will be the same.
If I decide to pay for the game again based on what I know, then I will be content in doing so.
Now my personal opinion again, is that I would NEVER pay for a lifetime subscription. It doesn't make sense to ME, because I very rarely would play a game long enough to justify the 200 dollar up front costs. Thats why I don't buy one, but it might make sense for others.
However, in the grand scheme of things, good idea or bad idea, the end result is the same, and anyone who would spend 200 would spend 15 dollars a month. All it is, is a different opportunity in payment structures, the basis of paying to play the game is the same.

Finally, this is where we have common ground and what I was getting at all along about everyone's situation being different.
I played FFXI for almost 4 years @ 15/mo. I have friends that played longer than that and most former players did for at least 2 years. In my case that's roughly $660 or so. If they had a lifetime sub back then I could have saved (for those who think that way) quite a bit. Imagine what WoW players would have saved if they had lifetimes at launch. Or EvE players.
I'm usually not the type of MMO player who rushes to endgame just so he can rush to the next game and be ready for the next launch. I always thought that was strange but you'd hear people talking about it all the time. They never found enough engaging so they just wanted to 'finish' the game, just to hurry and get disappointed for the next game after building it up with hype.
I think with the setup of instances and potentially new cities (much smaller than continents), they have enough material to work with to warrant a lifetime for me now. But as I said, there will be people who will happily play DCUO for 15/mo for 2 years or more who never considered a lifetime because they couldn't get the $200 upfront.
Why do you feel you need for everybodys permission to buy the lifetime sub? I you want it then buy it. Thats why it's there. Seems like your trying to convince yourself its a good idea. You said yourself it's a shallow game and not worth $15 a month. If you pay $200 for a lifetime sub guess what....the game is still just as shallow as it was before.
