I just want to know if BFR's are in the game or not? If they are, im not.
Never saw the big deal with BFR's..
I enjoyed blowing em up with my phoenix rocket launcher and getting huge xp for it.
They said no BFRs in PS2...I herd they brought the mechwarrior licence though and can now leagaly call them Battlemechs.
I dont think Smedly is willing to Piss off all the old vets again who quit because of BFRs. On release bfrs were horribly OP but like 3 weeks in you had more armor in Reinforced Exo armor so I dont know what the complaints were after that.

It took a hell of alot longer than 3 weeks to get them under control. They basically took all infantry, ams', and light vehicles out of every fight. The only way to kill one was to tank zerg it and have reavers ready to chase it forever to finish (hopefully you could kill it before they could get back to a terminal and despawn it to save it.) So being a grunt like me you were 100% useless when the BFR's showed up. Since there was no more real fighting to be had alot of people moved on.
Players soon adapted to killing BFR from what i remember, many a times i was with a small group of foot troops that took out BFR by shooting it in the power core on its back.
So no screenshots? Is it going to be using the original engine? whole new game? or and expansion thats touted as a sequal? (Neocron 2 anyone?)
I loved planetside when it 1st came out but im not so sure about this one.
What do you think? I think it's pretty obvious they are going to use the Unreal Engine 3 for it!
Unreal Engine is a FPS PVP engine at it's core. Perfect candidate.
And as they used it for DCUO, it means they now already got both the licenses and expertise in house to continue with it for other games.
You have to be kidding me. You think they rewrote this game for the new engine in this short amount of time? SOE does not have the staff atm to do so. I expect the old engine with some updates. A new engine would require another year or two at best.

Considering the fact that the Unreal 3 software package is meant to streamline production and the fact that the game has been publicly "known" to exist through random hints and such for about 2 years now (and there is no telling how long it has been in production under the radar, I mean hell they did almost the exact thing with the first one releasing the first bit of info only about a year and a half before release even though it'd been in production for just under 3 years).
Yeah, it's possible.
But then again any of this is simply speculation till they release information on it, so for now all we can do is wait and see.

No not at all. That is the whole beauty and power of the Unreal Engine 3 (or other engines like CryEngine, etc).
It comes with all the tools. So developers, artists, scripters, world builders, etc can directly start working with it.
They don't have to rewrite anything. Just look how they pushed out DCUO. And most likely The Agency running on Unreal Engine 3 as well.
So I think it pretty much confirms that SOE has moved towards the Unreal Engine 3 platform for all their future games.
As Planet Side Next and EverQuest Next are developed for both PC and PS3, then it's pretty much a no brainer that both will be developed on Unreal Engine 3.

You clearly have no idea the size of SOE's programming staff.
well lets look at what we know.there been rumours of a planetside 2 for over 2 years.so it could have been in development that long.
SoE might be trying a new marketing ploy which involves letting the info and screenies out close to launch to let the game ride on fresh hype.
mmorpg traditionally release info years before the game comes out and screenies as it progress.but let face it with so many mmo coming out most of us forget it exists till we see it at launch.i for one only remembered dc universe was out when i saw the retail box in shops!
Loved planetside. hated core combat and the caves.. loved BFR's.
...
Same here. Hated the caves, loved the BFR's, especially when they first came out. They were somewhat rare on the battlefield, tough to take out, and actually took great teamwork to do so. Lots of fun.
If they keep the same overall gameplay from the original with updated graphics, reduced hackers, and more variety of bases, they will have a subscriber for life with me.
As a side note, they need to keep the monthly fee. If they turn this into a microtransaction, "those with the most money wins" kind of game, I won't even look at it. That was the beauty of Planetside. 100% skill, 100% PvP. Absolutely loved it (and this coming from someone who generally likes PvE better). Nothing to buy that makes you "uber", no economy. Just who was the better soldier, and who had the better team. Period.
Smedley said at some point that BFRs won't be coming back. Considering a 2 man MBT couldn't realistically take on a single-pilot BFR FV, I totally understand the hate.

I really enjoyed PS, and played it for many years. I actually look forward to seeing what this buzz is all about.
Kind of exciting

That's a oxymoron!
Yeah unreal 3 engine is simple to work with.. hey you can even downlaod the non commercial version yourself and give it a go if you wanted..
I hope they are using the unreal engine or at least a new engine and not the old one done up a tiny bit as its way too old to anything good with

HINT: IT'S THE LARGEST STAFF IN THE MMO BUSINESS.
Make a difference!
I liked the idea of Planetside more than the implementation.
The bumpers of the vehicles were more powerful than any other weapon on the battlefield.
Chain guns, even when shoved into the belly of an opponant managed to shoot over the opponants' shoulders.
Sniper rifle head shots required two shots to kill, and reload was rediculously slow.
Most weapons required an entire clip to kill a single enemy.
Planetside Love it still play too

and i am a huge dc fan too.
Cant`t wait. I hope SOE does this one right.
Looking forward to rejoining my Johari vet outfit 4475 Ranger Elite and kicking some VS and TR arse again.

Loved planetside. hated core combat and the caves.. loved BFR's.
Hated the hackers and the way SOE abandoned the game.
Im sick to death of the same old combat mechanics in mmorpg's.. its been this way for over a decade...
im sick of sword and board.. i want a mmofps worth a damn with great development.
I will be there with a ton of my guildies.
