DCUO is a GREAT GAME

UnleadedRevUnleadedRev Member UncommonPosts: 568

I love this game! Unlike WoW which I have played a long time, DCUO doesnt make playing seem like going to work, a grind, you have to do it or you will fall behind and get pwned.

Instead, DCUO is FUN...period.. And thats the way games are supposed to be FUN.

Now of course, this game was just released and there are some bugs and quirky stuff, but if you look at Sony SOE's track record with their previous games, you can count on 100%  support, improvement, expansions, fixes, etc etc etc.

SOE Sony has a great track record of improving their games and they do not die.

It is not a grind, you feel rewarded for your efforts, the quests are fun, and even on a PvP server where there is open PvP in the cities, OMG you should see how the battlelines pan out on a Saturday night!

Also, unlike WoW the players are not a$$hats, they are awesome.

The graphics are sweet, I have no lag, and even the most drawn out quests are fun as you get into a pattern of  ultimate destruction that makes you lose track of time.

I found the game to be quite entertaining in beta, but after a while I realized it can't keep me entertained long enough to be worth a subscripton fee. Still for those gamers that only end up playing an MMO for a month or two that won't really matter.

As to the great track record of improving their games, I had to laugh out loud at that one. We obviously have wildly different opinions on how SOE treats their games and gamers.

How about in a month or so you come back and let us know if you are still having as much fun as you are now.

Try telling that to SWG fans.

I was in the beta for this game for a month or so, it''s a fun game for about a week. It's alot like a 4th of July sparkler, fun to look at and play with until you get to the end, then you are just left with a bunch of black shit on a wire and lighting a second one isn't nearly as much fun.

I don´t know, if the comparison with WoW fits.

When I started playing WoW at release, I chose the Horde. They were outnumbered 3:1 vs Alliance on my server, but community was quite good there. All the brats seemed to play Alliance. Leveling in WoW also never felt much like a grind.

I think you should wait a bit, until the Newness is overtaken by Elitism, as in most games.

Try telling that to Vanguard, Planetside and The Matrix Online players as well.

You know, I was going to mention those games too, it just seemed a little redundant because as ignored as those games are they pale in comparison to the fuckup that was the NGE.

You are a funny guy OP...

SOE has the single worst record of any company in MMO gaming. They are the example that every company uses of what NOT to do (specifically regarding the SWG NGE). You seriously made me laugh with that one. Good stuff though.

OP is correct and I agree completely.

  • erictlewiserictlewis Member UncommonPosts: 3,022

Wow honestly op, at first I thought you were trolling, or trying to be sarcastic.  Oh well your lack of  understanding how soe has done things in the past at least made me laugh.

You cant be serous about this thread.

     I concur!

Outside of some combos being completely broken (See: Fire + 2 Hander) in PvP and the servers going down multiple times a day I'm liking it.

It isn't as spammy as people said it was, but I think I'm still going to setup my wired controller for it (Servers just went down.. Relogged to start using it, ugh)

I'm generally liking it, my only complaint is that I wish there were a bit more starting areas and that some combos were less broken.

Definitely going to be riding this one out at least until the tried and true "Orcs and Elves" starts looking good... And its going to be a LONG time until then.

One nice thing about Dcu...is that it has not caused COH population to decrease...I was afraid that there would be a massive drop in players, however the servers have been close to capacity the last few days =)

Some of the OP's post seemed like borderline trolling, some of it I somewhat agree with. I just dont see it being fun after a month or so of clicking to death the same bosses

Yah, I havent seen a drop in CoH playerbase either.  In fact, when the dust settles, this game could actually increase CoH's numbers.

Due to the huge amount of money SoE is using for commercials and buying adds and favorable reviews, many people who wouldn't otherwise play a super hero MMO will try out DCUO.

When they cancel thier account after the first month like most will, they may decide to give CoH a try.

I keep wondering why most of your posts about DCUO are about them loosing people.  Are you a CoH player by chance?

I have to call you out on that one.  Only two servers have been close to capacity.  The other servers have been medium to low for years now with no change.

     Definately the best!

Nothing for or against DCUO or what will happen in the future, but the SOE comment...really?

yep but on the flip side look at eq1 and eq2 some great content over the years and how many xpansions dose eq1 have now is it 11 :)).

has for vanguard it was doomed from when it went live and if soe had not got it it would have shut down for good, but then they put it on the all acsess pack runs great not but has never come back from when it went live.

i think soes big mess up was swgs when i changed the whole game and lost all there main subscribers in the makeing.

but if this game has the same support that eq1 and eq2 had will be great :).

Keep games alive? Yes. SOE is good at that. But, how many MMOs have actually been shut down that survive until release? Very, very few so this isn't much of an accomplishment.

Improve games after release? Not a chance, in my opinion. EQ? Some of those "improvements" led to EQ's near death. EQ2, may be undergoing the same trend right now on the subscription servers due to "improvements" that SOE is making, though Velious may be suprising. You just never know with SOE.

The main problem with SOE is that they typically only care about the new content and trying to improve it over previous content, ie expansions, they typically completely neglect any other content. That is horrible for overall health of games.

Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.

This is true, but EQ is also one of the most successful and highly regarded game names in the industry.  Not just in MMO industry, but videogames in general.  A large majority of their titles have been ignored and their playerbase with them.

  • mmodannommodanno Member Posts: 163

If there is a nickel to be made, SoE will keep most anything on life support.  After the initial rush of box sales, the subscription numbers will drop off the cliff on months 2 and 3.

If SoE follows its normal pattern, then a Cash Shop will show up in the game then.  Of course, they haven't even got the auction house and banks working yet, but you have to know they have a coder or two working on getting the Cash Shop up and running to milk every last penny out of whoever is left.
