Title *almost* says it all.
If anyone has experience with both of these classes and can compare them (pros/cons), I'd really like to hear it.
I'm a 23 Minstrel ATM and I seem to be getting owned a great deal more than levels 1-22, so it's getting extremely frustrating, to say the least. 3 mobs, and I'm probably gonna die, depending on their levels and such. Not sure if it is like that with the other classes, but 3 vs. 1 is most MMOs is usually a bad situation (if they are at your level, give or take).
I want a good solo AND group character. I don't mind just healing, or mostly healing in groups.
I was wondering how the RK does in comparison to the Minstrel. I'm not really interested in the other classes, and have read a lot about them, etc.
Thanks.

I've played both (RK to 65 and Min to 58) and healed with both. The minstrel is a very good healer that can really put out a lot of healing very quickly - good for raids with lots of targets. The Runekeeper requires a lot more set up and time to heal at the same level as a Minstrel, this is because a lot of the RKs heals are HoTs and require other heals to be laid down first for maximum potential. Both have a very different style/method of play, but the RK is more challenging to play as a healer.
For a solo/group class it is hard to beat a RK for playability, but the Min is pretty darn close with specced right. Well, that is my opinion.
Well, a friend of mine who has a higher level Rune Keeper felt that they were powerhouses until they started attracting more mobs. He's liking his champion now much better.
They aren't tanks. This is not to say they don't have things you can rely upon to help in such situations and clearly there are people who can solo both to cap, but they aren't tanks so it's going to be a bit more challenging.

Well if you like to heal the Minstrel is the premier healer for instance fellowships and raids, or even groups adventures into areas with elite mobs. Last I played the Rune-Keeper could hold its own well enough and keep a fellowship alive, but was no where near the healing output of a Minstrel.
My main is a Minstrel, and I won't lie its tough to solo through most areas, especially with 3 or more mobs on you, but I enjoy the challenge. Its slow and steady and you progress at a fair rate, not too fast or slow. Do make sure you take the time to work on traits and unlock the stats required, and use War-Speech when soloing...it boosts your DPS, but reduces your healing by 50%, which is plenty for yourself.
A RK can heal damn good but not at the premiere level of a Mini simply because the majority of the RK's heals are HoT's. On top of that, the RK CANNOT rez in combat unless heshe was darn good in predicting ones death in under a minute to be able to use "Do Not Fall..."
When solo'ing I really think there's no comparison. The RK simply hauls arse! If the RK gets overwhelmed by 3-4 mobs, it has a couple of stuns at it's disposal that gives enough time to finish off 1 or 2 mobs. On top of that, the RK's healing rock pulls more agro than the RK so it works as a tank sort of.
If you're more into solo play than group, RK is the way to go. You'll level as fast as you want to and you'll always get invites to get your gear up in Moria and beyond because of the ability to heal or dps.
As a RK I heal turtle raid all the time, and I healed 2.8.3 and 2.8.4 without a "tank" in the group... myself (rk), champ in fervour, hunter. So an RK is more than capable of healing, however the Mini is the premier healer.
Also I recommend trying out a captain. Nowadays Captains are healing Grand Stairs and Samath Gul parties by themselves. Now Captains don't heal as good as RK's and Mini's however their versatility is unmatched.
I'll second the captain shout-out as my main is a captain and I'm currently levelling up an rk. 3 mobs are still a problem for rk's when soloing since if they want to do the most damage they need to attune towards offensive spells and lose most of their healing abilities. Personally I preferred the rk's attunement mechanic to the minstrels more standard style and that's why I've been levelling up an RK as my second character.
The captain is my favourite class out of any MMO that I've played though so I still love playing him often. It's easy to see what a big difference he makes in a group and they become pretty decent at soloing now as well.
The minstrel is gimp among all classes. Captain healing ability somehow similar to RK. RK is not just able to heal but also a tanking class.
I wish there are medium armor set for minstrel because not every minstrel like to wear light armors for will and fate only.
My main is a minne, he rocks as a soloer or a agroup healer at lvl 65. I am using only crafted light armor and jewelry, no radience gear. I am leveling a RK who is at lvl 35 currently, so too early to tell how he will play at 65.
When solo with a minstrel play in Warspeech mode andl try and not draw more than 1 or at max 2 mobs at a time. If you run pull multiple mobs they will be interupting your inductions so you will need to drop the warspeech and go into "turtle mode" alternate self heals and damage, pop morale pots. If all else fails play possum.
Spec your minnnie in Fate and Will ( Widom, Confidence, Empathy and Idealism) , As a 5th trait I use Valour for the morale. I plan on the same setup with my RK
The RK is a mean soloer also, pair him up in a duo with a warden or guardian and watch the mobs fall. He solos ok , but is a paper cannon and multiple mobs can whip his hiney easily. He takes a lot longer to set up for a fight than the minnie and I have yet to do any 6 man instances with him as a main healer. I have used him as back up healer in a couple though and like other said , his healing is mostly HOTs so plan accordingly.
I miss DAoC
I have a 65 minst with decent ger and 150 rad, a 65 cappie with 155 and 65 RK that's geared a bit worse than the other two but has 4x moria and a couple of bits of mirkwood giving it 90 or 105 if I put the boots on. All 3 have 10s on their virtues and decent traits.
The cappie is the best choice for 3 mans like SHs HM or a school/lib HM. I know cappies that have solo healed SG but I haven't been brave enough to try. On the 3 mans you have enough healing to survive and a bit of extra dps as you don't have someone who's just healing.
My RK was able to heal GS or Skumfil fairly easily, I think I've done Forges and FG too and it seems to heal fine in 3 mans although I haven't tried a SH HM with it I'm pretty sure it'd be fine.
If I'm asked to heal I'll swap to my minst. It's got a 65 2nd Age book with all the right legs and 6 bits of hele for the +6% healing bonus and all t9 runes/relics I think with 2x crafted t3 healing ones.
My minst is better geared than my RK but I'm far more used to healing with in so I think it's the better healer. If things go horribly wrong TS and FS Heart are better saves than the RK has and the melees must like my 20% ballad of war.
For solo play I struggled with both if 3+ mobs were pulled or if a roaming mob joined in after I'd started a fight. With 5x red trais and WS on the minnie can do decent damage but it burns through power at an alarming rate and your heals are pretty much useless unless you drop WS. I haven't really perfected kiting while fighting on the RK. If you see a RK who has it's clear to see they're a better solo class than a minst and their DPS is still great.
With a RK you can DPS or heal but the minst only has one job in a FS and I think it's better at that than any of the other classes.
