Well, since the ONLY PvP option anyone has had yet in any BETA event has been a single warfront, nobody has any real data yet. It became available for a whole 3 days and then we are up to this point in time. Anyone who attempts to tell you otherwise until after this NEXT BETA event is just blowing smoke at ya with a TON of assumptions and guesses they are basing off thier experience in OTHER games. I'm sure there will be many however who will tell you they know it all because they have seen it all in thier 3 days of PvP. But, wether or not you run with it from there is all up to you. This next event will be more focused on PvP, I recommend you wait and get responses from after it is done.
Well pvp in Warfronts aren't the only option we have in rift. I wouldn't discredit anyones feedback on the subject considering you can play on a pvp server and going over to the other factions side in killing players while their questing and clearing rifts is a big part of that server rulesets gameplay. I'm sure someone has pvped that way and can tell you about mid-level pvp balance and effectiveness.
Fang of Regulos Warfront sucks, I haven't tried the other one but there's another called Battle for Port Scion that might be good. The open world PvP is just like in every other FFA MMO you know so no change there unless you count Rifts lol.
1. Warfronts are battlegrounds. If you played em in Wow or WAR you know how they are.
2. Open world PvP, even on a PvP server, doesn't really start till 20 when you are autoflagged in the +20 zone.
3. Classes are constantly being tweaked each beta, there is really no way to pinpoint where the balance is at.
I've never had a PvP fight that I thought was unfair due to it being unfair because of classes. The level spread on the warfronts is another issue as they are 10-19, 20-29, and a 7 or 9 level lead is very very significant.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
A bit disappointed in there only being one warfront available and nothing else far as I can tell from levels 10-20. A little more variety would have been nice. Gets a bit boring doing the same one over and over again.
Other posters have said that a lot more opens up at higher levels. Whether this is the case or not I can't say myself yet.
I have only time to tinker with one build really. Made a mage myself. They seem to be a lot of fun far as PvP goes so far. So far through the first twenty levels the classes seem fairly even PvP wise least in a battleground scenario. At least none of the classes seem to be overpowered least to me. For whatever reason the Defiant on the server I have been playing on almost always beat the piss out of Guardian. Not sure why that is the case though considering both factions have the same classes available to them them. Does sem a bit odd how often Guardians get shellacked though. That is really the only trend I have noticed although not sure how much that can be read into considering from a class standppoint both sides have the same options/classes available to them.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
The world pvp sorta reminds me of AION.. In the fact that you can travel to the other factions worlds and start pvping with them (and i think you gain certain pvp currency for doing so..) Some of my best moments were trying to shut down rifts only to be surrounded by like 3 other guardians and battleing it out with em.. I havn't had a chance to play War Fronts but they look promiseing in the videos.. I also hear that Trion is giving you a whole pvp class tree to put into 1 of you're 3 classes, which is cool too.. Gives you a little meaning to pvp.
There is a PvP trailer made by Trion that was released not to long ago that goes into more detail on the pvp and its currency/rewards you get for doing so.
Currently Playing: Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta

Yeah the PvP tree seems kind of neat. You could access it in the last beta although I was just short of being able to put points into the first skill to unlock the rest of the tree. Does add a bit more to the PvP end of things between being able to use your favor points for skill upgrades or PvP gear.
I like those sort of rewards. Not sure what the general consensus will be though. Seems to me if you spend the points on the PvP skillups you can be a rather formidable opponent in PvP. Which is as it should be in my opinion. Not sure how those that don't plan on putting a fair amount of time into the PvP end of things are going to feel about it though.

Instanced PvP: 2 of the 4 warfronts were opened last beta. One was a domination map similar to WoW's arathi basin bg, although the positions of nodes are very different.
The second martyrdom map where the team competes to hold onto an item which spawns in the middle of the map. The teams get more points the longer one of them holds onto it, and it deals damage over time to its holder.
Later levels will open up a capture the flag map and a PvP/PvE hybrid map reminicent of WoW's alterac valley.
World PvP: Players can capture the other faction's outposts in contested areas. Fighting rifts gives you items that can summon guards to defend your outpost or one you have successfully captured. Next beta is the first where both factions are leveling in the same zone, so this will be the first true test of this mechanic.
Previous betas gave players an item to teleport to the other faction's zones. This led mostly to raids zerging cities so it wasn't really a good test of how fun the mechanic will be. It's not known whether these items will be included in launch or if they were just for testing purposes.
General: Player kills give experience and occasionally money or loot drops in both types. At this stage of beta players with heals are performing the best in all types of PvP. AoE's are very strong in the martyrdom warfront.
I don't really think you can get an accurate feel for how the PvP in Rift is going to shape up. so far I've played a little PvP, and plan to play a lot more in the next beta. It seems to be shaping up to be a fairly standard PvP experience.
when there's people posting that the only PvP option available in the past beta stages were Warfronts you know that you are getting answers by PvE noobs

Like many other's have said it's really too early to precisely answer that question. There is a pretty good talk on the PvP experience in Rift on this podcast... http://www.riftpodcast.com/podcast/2011/01/17/podcast-27-pvp-openworld-warfronts-and-longevity.html. They talk about a Defiant raid into the Guardian capital city, and some on the warfronts.
I think the PvP is shaping up well, but we will have a better picture after the next beta where they will be having contested zones!
the pvp is like a mix between wow and WAR if you like both, you will like RIFT.
I really enjoy rift PVP
