I think that there may be a great amount of gamers who just don't want to deal with Blizzard aka Activision and/or Cataclysm for various reasons anymore, but basicly still prefer questbased, linear themeparking. To those, Trion is offering a value product.
Trion is also smart to release at a time when alot of WoW'ers may notice that after some month of Cataclysm, WoW really has nothing left to offer and therefore may look for a change.
As another poster had stated, Rift may wind up with the disenfranchised WoW players that don't like how the difficulty ramped up in Cataclysm. Woe be it to Trion if they start catering to those players.
I think its the same reason players from other games would like to play it:
New lore
New areas to explore
New quests
New friends to meet
just an overall new experience. It doesn't have to be a ground breaking game, It doesn't have to offer a completely different mechanic. If you like themepark games, there are any number of reasons to give it a try.
Ive never understood why people complain about the dungeon finder program in WoW insisting that it stops people from playing with others and it makes no sense at all.
Personally i love the fact that i can play with players all over the world and theyre not just limited to the server im on, that is a plus, not a downside.
Anyways i like Rift but i still dont intend to play it because im tired of WoW and quit it.
Are you serious? How can you like it? Sure it's nice if you only want to farm gear as fast as possible but other than that...
I love the social part in MMOs but blizzard completely ruined that in wow.
There's nothing stopping you from putting together groups from your own server. The problem is that the DF is easy... press button, get group, and most people will do that instead of gathering a group of players on their server, but that's not Blizzard's fault. It's the players.

Completely agree, in the perfect world there would be only one WoW server. Unfortunately there can't be, so this is the next best thing.
I still don't understand how so many people can make fun of WoW players, and then try and find reasons for them to come to a game they're playing.
THe best part is, no one will have to convince you to play Rift. Chances are one of your friends will. If you like mmo's at all, you will prolly enjoy rift. I find it has a llot of strong points. It is beautiful, performs well, has intresting class mechanics, engaging lore, action packed combat, great group mechanics in the class diversity, great ability to have a solo build then switch to a group build then switch to a pvp build, and I could list more. It is a fun ride. Please dont force yourself to quit wow. I think the population of rift will be great and, greedily, I dont want someone else to get my mobs on an over crowded server.
