I'll be in there at launch because it sounds like my sort of thing and they're usually most fun (decent population) in the begining before dieing horribly after 6 months. We'll see how Earthrise does, besides I spend more money on cigars in a month than I would on MMORPGs in a year and some of those smokes can be disappointing so what the hell?

Agri! Its good to see you around, and I'm glad to hear you'll be giving ER a spin with us I was hoping to see a few of the folks I got familiar with false-hoping for SGW!
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
You missed the " I am stoked for this game but sadly it looks like a post apocalyptic Mortal Online" option.
On the fence here depends of my heart or head wins out. The head on is saying 'wait a good while'.
Based on what I've heard about MO & ER, the MAJOR difference between the two is the effectiveness of the actions taken by the developers, which makes all the difference in the world (even if you started with two literally identical games).

I will definetly try it out, hopefully I will get to try it in beta but it seems like those beta keys will be handed out just when beta ends..
The thrill of a virgin MMO can be SO much fun! I remember the DFO beginning wich was pure madness.
I completely agree! I will never forget my first night with SWG.
I spent an hour making a wookie brawler, logged in and said "What do I do now?"
Someone replied "Anything you want!"
I remember thinking "Yeah...thanks dick!"
But he was absolutely right! The start of a non-level grind based MMO is an amazing mix of exploration and intense noob battles. And its always fun for the beta testers to feel awesome for a few weeks!

Something is very wrong here with launch only a week away and no beta has not started and alot of tap dancing. I forsee " High Seas and Heavy Weather " coming for this game.
" Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Those Who Would Threaten It " MAGA

True, transparency and openness can make up for a lot. Listening should not be underestimated. The big issue is that sometimes small teams just don't have the skills or resources to realise their vision. Hell even well funded experienced ones don't sometimes look at Tabula Rasa for example (but to be fair they did have a pace cadet at the helm).
I do hope for the best, I am also a little jaded with sandboxes who's formula is to simply give more stuff to grind (and make it 'grindier'), that's another story though.

i think whent he had issue with there server company not wantign to host servers anymore they had to find new server host i wouldnt be surprised if the keys went out today but i thinkt hey need to delay for a week to get some stress testing done with the new build

yea its in beta just the mmorpg.com keys havent gone out yet but im thinking the reason the servers are down so long for this update, is cause they are moving it over to the live server

Can't disagree there. Even more important than the Dev's communication skills are their ability to implement fixes & changes without breaking more than gets fixed. From what I have heard, this is one area that MH has excelled in. I would much rather have patches take a little longer in trade for them acutally PATCHING.
I will say this, though. Sometimes Devs listen too well. Part of SWG's downfall was a dev team trying to cater to a mass of disgruntled forum junkies. They spent more time on the forums in the game making the wrong kinds of noise (and everyone had their own idea about what the game should be). Instead of realizing that the happy players who DIDN'T feel the need to flood the boards with wishes of "the game is good, just fix the bugs", they catered to a chaotic chorus of disharmony and ended up breaking, then re-making the game. Sometimes I wish Devs would listen a little less, if they can't decide who to listen to.
And MMOs = grind of some sort, no matter how you break it down. I prefer the open ended grinds, however. Being able to build my own character turns grind into PROGRESSION. Huge difference, to me. Once you get your character set up (ie, no NEED for a grind), the question is whether or not the game has enough real content (player OR developer created) to keep you entertained once you're not chasing a carrot.

That's a pity, if you want to join me for ER then the vent details are on the sticky in our forums and you're welcome to atleast use the ventrilo if you want.

OP I suggest that you re-read what the closed beta testers are saying about the game.
Char advancement : Grinding kill-quests for someform of points. over-and.over-again
Crafting: All mats drop from mobs (no farming as of yet, will come though) and the crafting process is:
1 Get 4x and 3y
2 Put in crafting-station,
3. Push button
bzzzzt
done.
blueprints only changes statgains on crafted item.
I think you will be quite dissapointed at this game.
no pun intended.
Really, crafting can only be so much in a game. The most important aspect in my eyes in regards to how deep crafting gets is the economy. In a game where everyone makes cookie cutter items of the same quality none of which stack up to looted items is crap. A game where the crafters make the best gear at varying qualities and the economy is therefore player-driven, thats when crafting really gets involved!
That actual crafting steps mean a lot less than how the economy of a game works.
Player driven economy is always > loot based economy to this particular player.
