World of Darkness Online

Just noticing that it is still not in the games list here at mmorpg.com, and that's not suprising since there's so little information about CCP's next MMO.

So, I thought I'd start this thread to see if there's any of you who want to talk about it?  Perhaps offer some sources of info, or media of some kind?

I am personally very excited about this game, even though I'm very tired of the Vampire trend going on in the last few years

(yeah, thanks for the sparkley vampire teenie boppers, Twilight.   Burn in hell.)

Luckily, CCP chose a dark, gritty premise for this game, and the IP already existed, with a strong loyal following.

I wonder how hardcore it will be?   I'm sure CCP has no intention of letting vampires queue up for some instanced vampire UFC arena match, or some battleground event,  having them bite eachother to death for some sort of point system.   (lol)

But, what about perma-death?    What about turning non-vampires?  What do you think?

This is not a troll, flame, or anything else worth banning me over. It is simply my pure opinion, and I have a right to share it.

if and when a forum section is added for WoD I plan to add it to my favorites (although not a favorite if I havent played it but it will be my most watched upcoming game)

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Please do not respond to me

Since it has a trailer it should be on the forum, even if I have to admit there is still little to talk about.

    Known facts:

White wolf have their largest wall totally full with characters and plots with arrows between them.

You will only be playing vampires at launch.

There will be player created quests (or so hinted one of the devs in a blog).

The world is put in White wolfs World of darkness, it will mainly use the old world of darkness but with some stuff added from the new.

Everyone assumes it will be levelless and either sandbox or quasi sandbox, this is very likely.

Thank you for the post i will definitely look into this

This is a title I am looking forward to. A rich setting with TONS of potential. Do you have a link to it being more "old WoD" than new WoD?

It fits to make expansions with Werewolves and Mages too, but I am really hoping there. I think that every server should have a KoS policy for any vamps that resemble a certain popular novel series.

    Sparkling. Ends. Now.

I really wanna see some originality with this, hope CCP can do it.

I can't find the official link right now (I seen it) but here is another one: http://www.dawn-guild.net/t1261-world-of-darkness-ccp-whitewolf It was mentioned in a thread here when the trailer is released so you can find it if you search for it here anyways.

Note that the new Vampire is called: Vampire the requiem while they say it is based on Vampire the masquerade, this is not an error.

The kind of unoffical forum is http://planet-vampire.com/main/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=1af1699799a1e7e91327488e9fa7ecf6&board=2.0

as well as Harlequins newly revamped http://www.wodnews.net

panet vampire has older posts, but wodnews is strictly for wod and she seems to be pretty good about updating it  as well as conducting interviews with CCP devs.

What that really the WoD trailer? I thought that was just a tease/gift to those at the Grand Masquerade.

As far as I know the only video is from two different people filming with hand-helds, and its never been officially released by CCP or White Wolf.

    ***Edit***

For that matter, has CCP or White Wolf officially acknowledged a WoD mmo yet? I dont think they have. Officially of course.

They love teasing about it, thats for sure.

CCP announced they would start development in 2009. We may get more info during PAX this year and sometime during 2012.

For some reason I thought they said they were starting work on another project in '09, but then had to put it on hold because Icelands economy took a major shit during the global economic crisis. Not that CCP lost money, but more they didnt want to fund other things unnecessarily.

Like I said I dont think they've ever made the official announecment. Not saying your wrong, but Ive kept my eyes glued on CCP's website since they bought White Wolf. And if they've said its official, Ive somehow missed it.

It will also very likely be a single-shard server, since this is an area where CCP have a lot of experience and technology expertise.

CCP have said that there will be a strong social focus. They're explicitly trying to make this a female-player friendly game: there will be a lot of emphasis on player interaction. This will not be a get to level-cap and grind for ep1x and purplez game.

It's 99.9% likely to have some kind of MT, for vanity items at least. In fact you can probably expect this to be quite a big part of the game's economy, with a MT -> player -> playerbase structure (people buy item templates from the MT shop, design them, then sell the finished items to other players). Looking good will almost certainly be a big part of this game.

They began working on it before it was officially announced in 09. They likely got the ball rolling back in '06.

Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

Yeah this game is my last hope for MMO's. After so many countless dissapointments, so little innovation, this game is the holy grail for me.

I've been anxiously waiting for this for years now.  A forum would be a welcome addition since regardless I will be playing this..

I hated Vampire: The masqurade...  I much preferred Mage:  The Ascension as a story type.

But then, I'm not a vampire fan at all.

Ah well, I'll wait until they come up with something that doesn't involve vamps.

  • CarnifexRexCarnifexRex Member Posts: 52

My favortie was Hunter by far, but its the world the really gets me. Im sure that the other groups will be open sooner or later.

Not a big fan of vampires myself, but I do have a thing for vicious women with blazing eyes.

WoD with CCP behind it has a lot of intriguing possibilities, especially if it's going to be sandboxed.  I'm certainly going to be keeping my eyes open for it.

Ive followed the 1st four in your link, and nothing in any of them leads back to any official annoucment that is a direct quote from CCP management. Its all still specutalion at this point.

Of course they are making a WoD MMO I know it, you know it, and CCP knows we know it. Hell, theyve been to gaming conventions with CCP employees wearing "WoD Dev" t-shirts yet completly deny knowing anything about a WoD game. Its a running joke about their worst kept secret.

But still they have not officially anounced anything. For me once they do that it will be a huge turning point for its development. Thats when they start answering questions and talking about mechanices and just what exactly the game is going to be, how it will run its rule-set, etc.

Thats when we get an official trailer, not something thats filmed with a handheld with a bald guys head in the picture

No, all that shows is CCP and White Wolf merged. Please show me where in that release that they said anything about an MMO. World of Darness has been around for 10+ years that all its says and CCP and White Wolf are working together on it.

Like I said above your quote here in responce to Malcanis, until Hilmar Pétursson or Nathan Richardsson announces its official, a WoD MMO is in nothing but a concept/test phase of its development.

Personally I dont think we'll see or hear anything more about it (except for a few teasers) until after CCP releases "Walking in Stations". I think Walking in Stations is going to be the real testbed of what CCP can do with a WoD MMO. Its going to let CCP "test" just how many avatars and just how much detail its enviroment and charaters and animations, and number of players they can have without making video cards scream. And guess what, as a pre-alf test for WoD it pays for its self.

So I think we're waiting at least a year before they come into the light about it well after Walking in Stations gives them an idea what the technology can handle (and people can afford).

Let me end by saying again.

Yes, we all know (and I do too) that they are making a WoD MMO. But until there is an official announcement its all just in the design and "working" concept stage. Our speculation is fun, but ultimately meaningless until they do.

The four best matches I see for a MMO from the WOD universe are: Vampire, Werewolf, Hunter, and Mage. (The classic settings)

I think that mix would be just.... I dont have a word for what it would be, a Godgasim, Godgastic. Well you get the idea.

This site needs to get its [expletive] together. WoD is about the only MMO I'm ecstatic about. A CCP-produced player-driven gothic MMO on foot, not ships - you know it's going to be of the highest quality.
