You are free to roam to an extent. It is guided in the sense that some clear mountain ranges divide areas as you progress in area and level. For example the first 10 to 15 levels as a defiant keep you in Freemarch guiding you from the upper left of the area and then to the City of Meridian and around, then you are required to backtrack to where you started after finishing the newbie area to enter Stonefield. As per my attached picture for example, you cannot run directly over the border for the majority between Freemarch and Stonefield.
Summarising I would say that alot of the game is linear in the sense that you are working through areas at certain levels and quests guide your movements. You aren not guided by invisible walls unless you decide to enter a new zone outside of the quest directed road areas. Certainly not as free to explore as some say.

Lol ive been drinkin too much was commenting on RIFT lol. Woot Earthrise ive preordered. Boo RIFT i've preordered, what have i done....
How much are they charging for the game? If they're charging AAA prices for an incomplete indy game then they can forget about it, I rarely even buy AAA games for 50 but if they're charging like 30 bucks then I might buy it.
I hear ya bro, I bought DCUO recently just because they made a discount on it...
No way I'm buying god knows what for 50eurs before looking at it, free trial, I wait for thee :>
Thanks for that beta review. I am interested in the game and will be purchasing it. I usually buy depending on some key things, and player opinions usually isn't one of them, but your write up seems honest and accurate.
I've gone and pre-ordered Rift as well, Adraemza, but I loved the experience I had in the beta. The good thing is that the experience in Earthrise will likely be nothing like the one in Rift. So it'll be whatever your in the mood for on any particular day. A "work-in-progress" sandbox FFA-PvP, or themepark with lots of polish and content?
I think it'll be great to subscribe to them both, espcially if frustration sets in, you can always go play the other.
