Aion or Age of Conan? Resubbing to one

ExploriumExplorium Member Posts: 395

So, I'm thinking of resubbing to either Aion or Age of Conan. I do have the AoC expansion, but for some reason never played it, think I didn't have time back when I bought it. I loved the classes in AoC though. And I haven't played Aion since release. Was a bit grindy back then, otherwise it was nice. I've heard its improved?

How are they doing these days? I want to check one out and see how they are, don't have money for both. So having a tough time deciding. Is Age of Conan and Aion still pretty populated? How is the AoC Cimmeria and Wiccana server doing? (my two main servers on AoC)

I'm not really interested in any other MMO at moment

Thanks :)

you can play a free trial of AoC if you wanted, I think they may even have an offer for returning players.

No clue about Aion, but if you quit once you probably will again. The grind is still there when you hit 40+, if thats what turned you off in the first place.

AoC is pretty much F2P. I mean you can play unlimited as long as you don't leave Tortage. It's still a good experience but it has always suffered from poor social/grouping mechanics.

Aion is still as grindy as ever.... decent enough but hasn't really changed.

If these are the only two mmos you are considering I'm sorry to say but you are severely limiting yourself. Why not DCUO, Rift, Lotro, CoH or... cough.... WoW? Each of those games are as good as Aion or AoC. I just feel bad that those are your two choices.

Those are two very different types of games. I think its strange to pick from those two. anyway... I would say AoC. Altho the expansion is a HUGE grind worthly of any Aion grindy. The combat and lore in AoC sets it apart IMO

Now if your looking for something beside those two games... i would suggest RIFT.  Its fun, has good pvp, clothes are cute and I love the soul trees!

AoC. The grind people are talking about isn't even when the grind begins in Aion. The entire end game is grind for transformations.

I can't afford a 50 dollar MMO or any new game at moment. I have 20 dollars I can spend and thats it. Not until next month until government pays me. And not a big fan of free to play MMOs (usually pay to win or be competitive, or pay to unlock content, or pay to look different than other people, otherwise I look like every one else, free MMOs aren't 100% free, so I would rather just pay for one). And all the current MMOs that are cheaper, aren't as fun (to me). I had a lot of fun in low level in Aion or my time in AoC in the modern MMOs.

Rift looks really nice, though, but like I said, I can't afford a new game. But Rift seems the same as other MMOs. I like unique MMOs, like AoC has a better than average combat system that isn't about Auto attacking...Earthrise sounds really interesting too, and heard it was a great game for ex-SWG people (SWG was my favorite MMO), but again, too expensive.

Think I might go for AoC then. I can get a time card for 15 dollars on Amazon, for 60 days, a good deal. AoC is nice, fun combat (I find it more fun than most MMOs, I didn't fall asleep at the screen with auto attack), great graphics and quests aren't too bad, even after Tortage. And I loved the classes in AoC.

I liked Aion, it had unique graphics, but yeah, didn't like the grind at all, thought I heard it got improved, but guess not.

Any other MMOs that go against the crowd that are modern?  I don't mind auto attack boring combat, if other features are unique and make it worthwhile. Kind of makes it hard though with only 20 dollars to spend.

I know Fallen Earth is different, but I had more fun at release than I did the past couple days with it, it seemed like they changed a lot of the game...nerfed the tutorial, and made things a lot easier. Plus all the starting quests in all the towns were exactly the same, kind of ruined it for me.

There is Vindictus, but it seemed more like DDO to me with instanced dungeons and small parties...and only the town was open. While I loved the combat, I missed the open world feeling.

I decided to probably do the Darkfall trial and see how I like it. Its only 30 dollars, so I would just need to wait a bit to earn the extra 10. I actually haven't played it, and it looks rather unique, and open world.

If your looking for pvp, Darkfall may be your best choice, followed by Fallen Earth

Aion and AOC pvp is up in the air, but as far as grinding goes, both games are suitable bed fellows.

Yeah, I think Darkfall would be more worthwhile. So late tomorrow (probably around 3-4 PM PST time) I'm gonna sign up for the trial. Sounds like a lot of fun, and PvP sounds exciting.

Anyone else play DF around here?

Hacks on Aion still exist, radar hack, speedhack makes the game unplayable if you dont use them too. i was about to resub too but i asked my old clannies and they said that they are searching for a new game to quit cause of the hacks...

Aion is a better game, simple as that,it's not a grind,it never was,but don't expect carebear pve,you lvl up with quests, but not as linear as Wow or Rift.

It''s one of the best mmos out there, second in subs worldwide.

AoC is a dead game,Aion has a lot more players in the west.
