I have to say, been a GW fan i was not really excited by rift. I was holding out till GW2 was out, but after reading alot of the comments about how solid rift was, i grabbed a beta key and joined up. Glad i did, its solid and is ready to launch already in my opinion. Devs have applied 3 patches this beta from feedback already. All in all if your not sure or on the fence do yourself a favour and have a crack.

Im not a GW fan, and i was ify about rift too but i agree, when i played it i was REALLY excited instantly
The biggest complain people have is that its not something new, but other than that its actually a very sweet game. I quite enjoyed myself during beta, and so are many other people so it's gonna do fairly good.
Not always, but often you can see a problem, or a dislike in a game design before it's even released. For example, when Darkfall was still under NDA I wondered, how is this use it to improve it skill system gonna work? That seems like it will lead to stupid repetitive use of skills to raise them.
Sure enough, it turned out that people were using scripts to fire spells at trees all night while they slept to raise their skills.
I don't see any such glaring flaws in the design of Rift.
However, I haven't played it, and I'm not sure how the game will work with the sudden opening of Rifts that attack players. Sounds good, but may not work well in practice.
You are right in part, rifts take awhile to open so you can run away. But i have been afk for a few minutes and come back to be greeted by rift fun raining down upon me. It can get hectic, but so far its fun hectic not sigh again hectic. One problem i have seen, is if you log on after a quiet period there is alot to clean up rift wise before you can start, questing in peace.

LOL. I love this, this guy comes in sporting the avatar and sig of the worst release in releasing history of any game ever thought of or even imagined and tries to trash talk the game that is easily the smoothest running game I and many have seen the past 5 or more years? God I love this community.
1) The avatar is from FFXI
2) I don't like FFXIV
3) The sig and avatar is made with tarutarus because I like them
4) Who said anything about stability? Its a wow clone. You've played one, you've played them all. Rift brings NOTHING new to MMORPGs. Trion even said so themselves.
The only thing Rift surpised me with was how shallow the class system is compared to how it could of been. Copy paste abilities/skills, completely linear progression? Yawn

It's a fun game to play. Just saying.
Thanks for the update Chief. Keep us posted on any other new developments.
It's definitely solid. It's definitely ready for launch. It's definitely worth checking out.
However, it also definitely doesn't offer anything that makes me in any way interested in buying or playing it.
For the last 3-4 days this Rift forum has been filled with negative (fake) reviews of Rift with people trying to sway anyone and everyone away from the game.
Now that beta is over for now we see the truth.
The reception of Rift is mostly positive, and the last three days dont reflect what the players believe at all.
Its simple we had noone to fight off the trolls/haters because everyone was enjoying the beta lol.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
That's actually the only content worth mentioning. I've seen some people groan about it, but I wanted to see more.
Then people started rumors that the RIFTS could destroy cities and players would have to make it back and blah blah blah. It really isn't that dynamic. The area changes, everyone hits up the goals. Some people get to token grind for gear in the end.
I liked beta at like 85%.
my negative points are:
not very per-formant character customization, same starting area & quests for each 3 races of same faction,
world looks too small so far, not that many dungeons & last one was too long,
crafting & AH need to be more elaborate in mean that AH not offers all features at search & crafting has not good balance IMO
quests are bit grindy & demands you to run in & out between tons of aggressive mobs which slow you down for while.
some quests areas are difficult to get in & if you die you need to run far again.
then are or too many or not enough of rifts.=D
But for overall it is very good new game, & I hope will have good success (many subs).
Only I'm far to be sure it ready for launch as we can see at beta 5 only like 1/3 of map opened.
try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2
Seriously take off the rose colord glasses, some people were dissapointed by Rift, if you cant see why then you cant see much at all.
Its a well made game for anyone who wants a new, standard affair, mmorpg. Nothing more nothing less.
Personally im waiting to see how endgame looks, before signing up. However a lot of those reviews which you deem "fake" because they were not fawning over the game are actually real concerns from players who bit the hype and were dissapointed.
I guess some never let go of the hype though...
Rift stands to be a solid medium pop game, unless there are sever issues with endgame, specifically pvp, which looks to have the potenital for some major balancing issues.
Was anxiously waiting to get on Beta for rift. Signed up early last year. Then I got an email that informed me I could play the rest of the betas and get to play the game early if I bought it. I cracked out my credit card and bought the Collectors Editon and 6 months of sub time.
Download the client and Tuesday mornning at 10 PST I logged into the game.
Created a toon, went into play and the server crashed. Started game back up and was told I had a 20 minute wait because the server was over loaded. Tried to get into another shard but they moved up and down so fast that I just finally took what ever shard I could click. Created a toon for that shard, started playing and the server again kicked me out. Wasn't until right after noon that I was ablt to get into a shard to play. Good friend of mine joined me for lunch break at work. We played until lunch was over and I logged off to create a new toon to do some testing. Played until 5 PM Tuesday when the system finally stablized and stopped kicking me off. Played until 11 PM, logged for night.
Wednesday I was back on playing for a solid day of gaming without being kicked off.
The gaming was okay, nothing new to report, in fact with more color had been added to game you would have thought it was WOW. Rifts were hectic and constant. Moved my toon up to level 30 when I realized I was bored to hell and back playing Rift.
Tried again Thursday morning but after 1.5 hours I was bored shitless,. I logged off, contacted Trion and requested that my sub and game purchase be cancelled. The game worked as advertised but the fun and thrill of it quickly faded for me.
IMHO Riftgame will be appealing to people who have not played or never played WOW, but for me it quickly got boring.
By the way TRion did refund my monies.
I have been playing the two last Rift betas, and while it may have alot of things from other games in it, it's like all the good stuff in games mixed together in one neat little package. Nothing ground breaking, but the Rifts are a little more 'new'. The thing that annoys me most is, calling it a WoW clone, because we have the right to call WoW a UO clone, because I'm sure that game took some from UO. Trion has made a stable game, and you cannot complain with their customer support, it is unbeatable at this moment.
I never said it was a WOW clone, just wow like. I played wow until I had a toon at level 39 and quit because I was bored with it plus I had several moral issues with some of wow's quests. I had no moral issues with Rift, the game was smooth, problems were fixed fast, it worked as they advertised it, but I was bored with the game fairly fast.
I have played computer games since 1975 so I am looking for something new, different and above all entertaining.
My favorite all time game was Tabula Rasa, I never got bored and there was always something different to it. Alas NCSoft never promoted the game so it died after just one year and I had leveled every toon (max) I created to level cap. TR was the only game that I ever did that with. So I have been playing a long time (I am 66) with computer games and MMO's.
oh Brother *sigh*
All im looking for is a solid mmo to play that i can spend what little free time i have, having a good time.
Sorry if i dont need revolutionary play to have a good time.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
You cannot even compare UO to WoW because they are two completely different games with 2 completely different audiences in mind. WoW is a EQ clone with a little more pezaz

I am actually extreemly unimpressed with RIFT.
The only thing I can think of that is any good is that at least its an MMO that has moved away from cartoon graphics.
My list of requirement to leave my current game for another fantasty based MMo is pretty high.
For a non-fantasy based MMO however I am much more flexiable.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

You play Darkfall right? shit... not too slam DFO but Rift actually has more freedom in character development than DFO and DFO is a sandbox...
Anyway, I wouldnt recommend this game to a sandbox player anyway. I try to lock that sandbox loving side of me away when i play rift or i wouldnt have any fun.
Playing: Rift, LotRO

its true we have a problem with variety because everyone is a hybrid (or frankly should be). However character diverisity isnt even on my list.
My list contains items such as player owned and seigeable cities, terrorities, cannons, ships etc.
My next fantasy based MMO will have to find away to combined RTS with RPG even better than Darkfall has and the only one I see out there that might be that game is Arche Age. Other than that I have to wait for WoD which isnt a fantasy based MMO so my list of requirements is much smaller

Shit... Im right there with you brother. I got my sandbox fanboi hat & foam finger on jumping up and down for the next great sandbox to release. I just keep those expectations away from the themepark side of things.
