Freemarch alone is the size of any three wow zones excluding barrens. Thats fucking big dude. Who cares if the quests let you see the zone. each zone has like a thousand freaking quests i consider that a good use of available space. not a negative.
When the question is asked about the size of the world and how much there is to explore why should I not answer it truthfully?
It is great that you experience the zones to be much bigger than they actually are. Actually they are about the size of WoW zones. Maybe slightly bigger, but not much. The size of the world is fine for a game at launch, but it does not really cater for the explorers amongst us.
I agree with this here, but again I havent seen a game worth exploring for ages now, at least not since 2000, teleports etc.. have ruined that, and that is because ppl dont want to walk anywhere, so I really doubt there will ever be an MMO like that again.

You could walk instead of run everywhere. I tried that for some time, but did not manage to keep that up in the long run. Maybe I will try that again at launch.

Well I am afraid I am not the avid explorer you are then, I dont do it for the sake of doing it, when you complete X challenge it has to be because you are doing what is hard for most ppl, that is how it works for me, the same reason you could play an FPS just with a gun instead of getting automatic rifles but it wouldnt be fun unless everyone is also under the same conditions.
A game with true exploring for me will make it hard for most ppl to get to those places, it will require something more not gimping yourself, I dont think there will ever be a game like that, but we can only hope.
I enjoyed it a lot and am motivated to buy it. I really enjoyed this past beta.
My only concern with buying this game (releases in March I want to say) is that I heard a rumor that Guild Wars 2 will be released 4th quarter this year and SW:TOR possibly in September and I can't really tell whether six months of gameplay would be worth it (total $135.00 USD for collector's edition (D2D) and five months subscription- assuming we get a free month with purchase). Not that I can't spare $23 a month (averaged)but it's more of a combination of the price and time commitment of any MMO- particularly at the release when trying to keep up (though not race) with other players.

On the bright side: Trion has alternative ways around this. For example dynamic quest-givers (that teleport or travel around). There are just not many of those in the game (yet). When used in the right way it might call for a different kind of exploring than what we are used to from other mmorpg.
I am done with the beta events. Do not want to spoil to much for launch. Got my collecters edition preprdered and ready for the 24th. Until then I will play EVE and be waiting on the 24th with much anticipation.
That's the only thing I am concerned about with beta. I'm not gonna get to keep my character and starting over again may feel like been there and done that, so I may just pvp for the next beta event and do nothing else.
If you do spend time in pvp share with how you feel about it. Reason is I didnt care for it at all. Really a big let down for me.
Another issue is I find the game super Linear, the only way to enter another zone is by a lvl requirement, I just cant go in when I want to. That also turns me away. In each zone I have been in I do have the ability to uncover the fogged areas pretty easy. Also finding arifacs in tha HILLS is great so 1 would have to explore it to find them.
I started play mmo types years before EQ came out but I did also play EQ march 1999 made myself a Half Elf rng.
Rift I made a rogue/rng lvl 23 an almost lvl 24 beofe we stopped but I dint power lvl either. I like the open caves similar to those in Vanguard. The realm of Rae was reallay nicely done. Atmoshere of the Rift was nice also. I stopped playing Guild wars becasue it was to linear for me.
I like taking risk if I die no big deal besides if I have strong character I like to try mobs that r 5 lvls higher than me to try and kill them. Soul tree is much like wow character builder forgot what iys called. But I have build his soul much like my Hunter in wow. very similar so it was easy to make decissions base on that.
I found some lvl 27 in Scarlet gorge and took a little effort but was to subdue them almost 400xp for each
But for this writer parrotpholk please share your thoughts on PVP when u can

I actually found some rather neat stuff just "exploring" in Rift. One thing I was glad to see was no "Teleport" spells in any of the souls. Perhaps I missed one but it's good to see that. One of the big reasons for the lower amount of "forced travel" is most gamers see it as a cheap time sink.
Can't wait to actually get in this game on release and see how my soul tree set up works out...
So far so good, but that is only at low levels. I got up to lvl 21 in the course of 2 beta's. I may have to tweak my souls a bit just to be viable in pvp, but we'll see how it goes.
Yea this game is definately worth the 50 dollars.. Not gonna get the CE , but the 50 dollar deal seems well worth it.
Actually have til Monday, and a week after that will be another 20% off deal, but any Fileplanet member gets the 15% off anytime regardless. But use the Redeem code: wetkitty
And you can have the Rift Collectors Edition for $50,
