It can take longer than 24Hrs...from my point its just mean fto all those who just get an key and download the client ^^. I did try for like 40-50 minutes and was crashed one time, not mention about lags etc....but it looks ok for me....something new...no Orcs/Elves etc........
But few days till release with all those problems, reading beta forum...well i wish them luck....should be Open Beta, or maybe they have new big update incomming, fixing all issues. Anyway, preordering / paying at this moment isnt best idea. I will wait month or two and see what will happen...maybe after that they will make some trial, so we can try.

Hell even they didn't think people would think their game was any good.
The problem is, that 90% of all beta-testers are US-players trying to log in at the same time now. Masthead didn't thought of that apparently when they only provided the mainly US-sided sites with their beta-keys.
It's a difference between night and day when logging into the server at EU-afternoon and US-afternoon - that was a few days ago ofc before the latest patch and new beta-keys made it even worse. Pop of the server is ten times the numbers when in US-timetone compared to EU, which results in too high load on the backbone shutting off the zones etc.
For people who have no access to beta forums i'll copy his post:
Dear Beta testers,
Due to the unexpectedly high interest to the Earthrise closed beta our server infrastructure was not set up to handle such rapid increase of players in the starting zones of the game. We are currently working on improving the starting zones performance.
The estimated downtime of the servers will be longer than 24 hours. Stay tuned for further announcements.
They are so full of ****, OSTIAK himself stated that beta servers' capacity is !!! 50 000 !!! players at once, then he said that it is not the server's fault, its the code of the game and will be fixed within a week, so now its influx of only 3 000 players that caused the game to fail utterly

because i was really looking forward to this game years ago, and all their talk about "WE ARE PUSHING THE RELEASE BACK SO MANY TIMES BECAUSE WE WANT IT TO BE PERFECT AND POLISHED" is really making us all look dumb for listening to them
lol this game is crashing after only giving out a few thoudsan keys? and its releasing next week?
Oh man.. This games release is like watching a train wreck in slow motion.. You know it's gonna be bad, but theres nothing you can really do to stop it.. Sad thing is the game could be something special with a little bit more funding to Masthead and some time.. They shoulda started the beta testing months ago.
Currently Playing: Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
So maybe downtime till release then....50k players, let them buy the game and try, so we can upgrade our servers^^
na it will be up tommorrow 24 hours is before 6:30 am my time som im guessing it will be up within monday. hopefully they switch it over to there live server

they did a year ago but they didnt have very many testers until jan

50k virtual clients is nowhere comparable to 2000 real clients connecting at once.
The game-code itself is not the problem, but the backend that needs to handle the database-calls. The beta-server is some crappy machine in a data-center somewhere in the crowded area of California, where the infrastructure is crap anyways.
US is possibly the worst solution for a server to begin with, as the infrastructure there is from the middleages.
Masthead should've done, what CCP did with their server and built their own one in Europe, where there's infastructure ou can actually rely on.

EVE has a very similar issue: when you cram a bunch of clients onto the exact same grid and don't spread them around, bandwidth and processing needs increase geometrically.

Exactly, and that's why CCP built a decent server in an area with decent infrastructure. Still they can't handle 2000 clients on a single node, allthough their game and their servers are one of the best developed today.
But if you read beta forum, you can see that many "longtime testers" saying, that the game isnt ready for release. I know this isnt live client, bet it will be updated, or new client will be released...but still...testers are for testing...when they say it isnt ready...well

All I can say is better this happen now in the beta than on Friday. Thiers nothing wrong with making the servers better during a beta, thats why they gave away the new keys in the first place.

This is what you read now, with all those new testers shouting out and complaining about lag and server-stability.
Ask those who were testing the game before the masses of testers entered the system, thos who were testing it allready last year.

50k is a big claim. ATM I know only one game that can handle that many simultaneous logins: EVE Online. And they
have some serious hardware (for instance, they had big SSDs long before those were affordable for everyone)
needed years to refine their software to a point where it can handle big battles
use a ship control and combat model that can live with a bit more lag than a "semi-shooter"
So I'd be surprised if a newcomer studio gets it right on its first try. If Masthead can get there within half a year, it would still be quite an achievment

You know that you need to have a beta-account to follow that link?
