Thanks to my new NGN internet connection , i decided to download and install Earthrise - although apparently the servers were dead offline due to the fact they can not hold number of players , and they crash every five minutes.
But, i said - what a heck, lets try it.
My surprise was great to see the game not only online , but no crushes in 2-3 hours i played.
And newbie zones were packed full ... go figure
Some people compared this game with Mortal Online. I laugh.
Mortal didnt work most of times in beta, neither does it really work now.
Earthrise works.
So yes. The FPS are low. There is stuttering especially when lot of people are on screen.
Probably comparable with Vanguard at launch.
But -
There is no skipping / sliding on ground
Mobs are not teleporting all over randomly.
No. The game is totally playable
I have even PVP most of the time. LOL
After I killed 10 players , i noticed my mistake. I was branded criminal and every player could kill me without penalty to his status. So i was hunted the rest of the game. That was fun
So PVP works
First person shooter element works. You need to aim in order to hit.
Its not fake FPS like Fallen Earth
Game world is huge and open.
And there are PVE quests. Its not one of those Sandbox games where they decide that just because its Sandbox they do not need content.
What else can be said ?
Dont expect to much. Its Indy game. It was not developed by EA with 300 million dollar founding.
Dont be hypocrites - demanding originality and change , but in fact only wanting samo old polished thurd clone
These games need players to prosper and become good.
And this game might just be the one

About the performance, I found that if I took off shadows and HDR in options my fps shot up to 40 - 50 whilst moving and sometimes 75 whilst standing. I'm using an HD 5770 + AMD X3 PII, have a 20MB broadband connection and am playing from the UK.
Yeah compared to MO it's like night and day (or dare I say Dark and Light?), this is far more polished and dare I say the graphics are of AoC quality? Less detail but of the same standard, I'd like my char to move a bit quicker as it feels like I'm being held down but maybe I need abilities or gear for that later?
In all this is probably the best beta I've played but I haven't played many, FE was the best but I prefer this as the combat and gameplay and questing is just easier and more fun/fluid.

The only a few issue I have with the game is the stability and lack of tooltips/quest info. They kinda fixed the later with question indicators (sigh) and the former was improved in the last patch as well . Oh and not being able to skip the tutorial is a pain in the ass, especially when all the people you are playing with are DFO grifers lol
Games:
Currently playing:Nothing
Will play: Darkfall: Unholy Wars
Past games:
Guild Wars 2 - Xpiher Duminous
Xpiher's GW2
GW 1 - Xpiher Duminous
Darkfall - Xpiher Duminous (NA) retired
AoC - Xpiher (Tyranny) retired
Warhammer - Xpiher
I agree with you 100%. For what it is its fun and will offer up some good pvp times to be had in the future.
Darkfall - Sick
Earthrise - Sick
You mean the tosser shooting the armadilos at the melee training ground? The trouble is that ER seems to have a working criminal system (unlike DFO) and the skill system is less open to abuse, I hope!

No, I mean the people killing players at the melee training ground. And the skill system may likely be WORSE than DFOs. There isn't a skill cap yet there are stuns, roots, snares, and interrupts.

I was in FE beta aswell (and very early one too)
And must say that the fact that FE had standard MMO target lock disguised as FPS gameplay , irked me to great extend.
Earthrise actually feels much more FPS than FE.
I dont want to overstate it since i played for only 3 hours. But this is my impression.
I just hope the beta would be a little bit longer :[
That would actually be me ;P ( I just wanted to test PVP )
But I payed for it dearly. Since people hunted me and killed me with no penalty to their status, afterwards
^ This is what im worried about. I was really hoping for a skill cap. This game has so many skills it could end up ugly without a cap.

Earthrise - Sick
ER needs a skill cap, I complained about this to AV for along time in DFO but they weren't interested and is one reason I left. Playing legit and tapping rocks all day to keep up with the cheats got old real quick and eventualy sucked alot of the fun out of it. Unless MHS limits the skills in each area along the lines of EVE or caps them it could turn into DFO with guns and cool music (the music is really good in this game!).

DF wasnt as bad as allot of people made it sound. I was able to kill quite a few people with better toons but they had to make mistakes. If you fought people that were skilled with higher HP your shit outta luck basically. Stats were tough to raise for me. I didnt mind grinding skills but gathering SUCKED!
Hopefully since HP is based on gear it wont be so bad. Skills can be grabbed pretty easily.
Darkfall - Sick
Earthrise - Sick
Just so you know... there's a skillcap for every type of weapon, armor or crafting-category.
So yes, it's basically more like EvE in that regard and not like DFO.
People in global agenda told me this game was awful. Thats when i knew i had to try it.
Unfortunently the torrent is so slow that after 2 days its still not downloaded.
Playing: PO, EVE
Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.
most people used the older torrent file XD
I do like the sound of this game and probally would have pre-ordered if it was not for the silly price tag nearly £20 mroe expensive than normal AAA PC titles hare in the UK... I am really sorry but i aint paying nearly £50 for a game..
So i shall wait until its in the budget zone for a few £
wait, since when did FE ever have target lock? You have to aim to hit and they even have headshots. I only played starting at launch, never had target lock.

Perhaps you are right. It never felt like FPS game though. Cant explain it.
Somehow Earthrise feels tighter , more like regular FPS. (maybe because you dont have to conserve your ammo so much LOL )
But , this is only first impression talking.
Okay. I was afraid there was some option in FE i didn't know about and had been struggling to aim at dudes running around. But granted FE is slower paced FPS, no 1 shot 1 kill, it is what it wanted to be I guess, a hybrid.
But back on topic...
I like the targetting system in Earthrise. In my opinion, also not too much like an FPS, but requires a little more skill than tabbing and leads to interesting line of sight fights.
Feels like targetting in Tabula Rasa (or lol DCUO with their terribad implementation of wtf barrels again! tab targetting).

It shouldn't surprise anyone that there were players killing other players in the training grounds. You couldn't kill the armadillos because there were only 4 spawned at a time on something like a 30 second timer and you had to kill 5 of them. There were close to a 100 people standing around me trying to kill them. It was ridiculous.
It was actually kind of exciting to realize you could die right off the bat. First you had to run and hide, because you had no idea who was shooting you, or from where. You had to look through your combat log to see who was shooting you. Then find them and kill them. It was pretty easy to sneak up behind them because they were usually shooting somebody far, far away from them.
If there was a faster spawn rate on the armadillos, or just generally more armadillos the pvp would not have been going on nearly as much. Between the lack of armadillos, the lag and then getting your character locked out with the 'No zone servers available' bug, it wasn't too much fun. The PvP was the most fun part.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I found ER too be pretty good. I made a little post recommending the game and got my thread derailed so i left it.
All in all ER is good and I will gladly give it a shot further down the road once they give a trial.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
There is no skipping / sliding on ground
No skipping? This has got to be a joke. Even there promo video showed that there was skipping.
Mobs are not teleporting all over randomly.
No they just disappear after you travel for a few minutes. Until you relog.
No. The game is totally playable
Is it playable? It meets the standards of maybe a beta 3-4 months from release.
Pvp is so gear based its rediculous. A player with tier 5 gear can take on 8-10 players with t2 gear without an issue.
Game world is huge and open.
And there are PVE quests. Its not one of those Sandbox games where they decide that just because its Sandbox they do not need content.
The game world is fantastic. The world builders deserve a pat on there back.
Pve content?? Every quest is kill 10 of this and come back to me. There is no meaningful storyline to them.
And the no crashing thing is a joke. The servers are no where near stable since the recent release of keys.
This is coming from a beta tester that was in well before 95% of the others . I have followed the game for years and could not wait for its release. Well needless to say i most likely will not be playing at launch. Unless some sort of miracle patch releases before launch.
Territory control has yet to even be tested. Personal banks and guild banks are still not in. We can go on and on about the promised features that have not even been mentioned in the roadmap and were promised for release.
Oh and Masterhead has 92 people working for them and this is what they produced after 5 or so years of work.
i had one hell of a time trying to get out of the newb zone for the fact that i kept getting killed by "unknown." i almost got out of the newb zone and then poof no mobs and no npcs anywhere. the greatest problem was, once i logged out with a character i could never log back in with that character. i always had to recreate a character under a different name to connect to the world.
and yes the idiots who just griefed everyone in the melee zone was a real pain. i mean that zone could only handle maybe 15 people in it tops before it crashed and you had 5-6 guys pvping and griefing there. i think the game was way to difficult for them to get past the simple combat mission so they just had to stay there and do what they could. pretty sad the IQ level that came from darkfail. had to listen to that crap for 3 hours on chat. heres hoping they put in an ignore system on the next build.

If you delete the existing character first, you can recreate your character under the same name. That at least saved me the trouble of trying to come up with a unique name that I would remember.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Ok.
You probably played way more than 3 hours i managed to squeeze in. I give you that.
I am just saying the game is not so bad as many led me to believe. I didnt crush, didnt slide on the ground or see teleporting mobs yet.
But hey , you are probably right.
The game is not in same shape as let say Rift beta.
But than again Rift has much bigger budget, and for this reason its also dumbed down clone.
I guess it comes with the theritory.
No one is comparing it to RIFT beta so lets end that argument.
They have 92 people working for them. They have a better budget than 99% of indies out there.
They couldn't meet there goals in over 5 years. What makes anyone think they are going to meet the goals on there roadmap?
Yes I have played a lot of hours.
Rift is made by team of all star veterans of MMO development , and they had AAA game budget , while Mastahead are unknown rookie team from Bulgaria.
Go figure...
I am still waiting for a moment when experienced game maker will tackle sandbox MMO ...
But the hell will sooner freeze over i guess
