Where are the Shriekers?

Agricola1Agricola1 Member UncommonPosts: 4,977

Got a quest from the first merc camp I entered  to kill these bats and have spent all morning looking for them, can anyone give me some good directions? I'd get help in game but people seem more concerned with complaining and moaning about how they hate the game and it will fail (though they log in for some reason every day!), so actualy getting help about the game from chat is more difficult than asking here!

Ok, go to the beach then head north eastish. They'll attack you over there. I found them just wandering around the east part of the beach.

Yeah sadly it seems that people like to complain more about something they dont like yet they still play it. It's kinda strange and to be honest I just dont get it.

If you dislike and hate something so much then WTH are you doing playing it then? why not go play something that you do enjoy?

Anyways it seems like your question was answered above. I am looking forward to a ingame ignore command. But I imagine with release less then a few days most of these haters are not going to pickup the game so one less thing to worry about ingame.

Thanks Xipher and good to see you in ER, I hope you are there at launch. I was told NW and spent ages searching about and since ingame chat is a Mecca for bitchers and doomsayers ATM it was just impossible to get any ingame help.

    Thanks.

Only been playing a couple of days but the graphics are good, no massive lag or game breaking bugs (so far). I don't want to say too much as I've hardly played (ask xipher) but it seems like a thinking mans TR?

Dont thank me until you actually find them. I might be wrong. I was basing it off of memory.

Xpiher is correct. Head south out the entrance of north camp then go west first chance you get by the waterfall. Follow the water NE and youll find rats and shriekers.

Personally its far better to skip it though and head west to industrial area. You can kill the human mobs rank 25-35. Theyre easy to kill at BR10 and give much better BP. Then you can get tier 2 rite there at Crio Bio facility.

Hey Agri!  Finally someone I know is playing beta who's opinion hold some weight in my universe.

What are your thoughts based on your ER experiences so far?

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

Well thanks I'm flattered, as for the game itself and considering I've only played a few days,

Graphics: Very good, everything is pleasing to the eye to look at and with a bit more detail and work (later patching) it would be up to AoC standard. The character models look superb however and in my opinion is as good as any MMORPG I've played.

Sound: Well the music is awesome, a great variety of electronic to thrash metal but still is easy listening. Other sounds, well not too many the weapon sounds good but you could do with a sound for when it jams. The sound effects present are good but the game needs more in my opinion.

Char creation: Limited, about three options available, a choice of race (asian, african, caucasian). Facial apperance and skin shade and hair do and colour. The colour from the hair do doesn't work despite there being only 3 options! It needs work although some have pointed out that since you wear a mask it doesn't matter but I disagree. Being ex SWG I want the full monty, choosing body shape and size to the exact parameters I want. If I want the fattest son of a bitch in earth rise with a hook nose and a lime green afro and blue skin then I should be able to do that and nothing less will satisfy me!

Tutorial: A run through of the different combat types, I found it to be simple and informative without having read the forums for help on it.

Combat: No auto lock or tab cycling, you can choose to have the crosshair fixed as in a classic FPS/TPS mode or hit tab and you can freely move your crosshairs around with the mouse to fire on your foe. I use classic TPS but the option is always there. There is and there isn't friendly fire, want to shoot your buddy for being an ass? Hold down ctrl key and fire, no ctrl key and you can't hit him, I'll probably have to remap this key as it reminds me of holding down CTRL in DFO (which I remaped on my merc stealth keyborad so that hitting w = ctrl+W). Alot of different weapons including flamethrowers, assault rifles, melee. I find combat to be decent and believe they have it pretty much nailed down, I'd best describe it as a TPS combat system with a couple of extras.

Skill system: You get BPs (battle points) by killing stuff and doing quests then spend them on abilities. It's like a marriage of SWG and EVE, the way you earn the points for the skills and attain them is pretty much like SWG. The actual skill system of how they affect your char and his/her abilities is pretty similar to the EVE system. It is similar to those two but is skill unique. You have different weapon and armour tiers and spend BPs on learning them, there is no cap (AFAIK) but being laid out in an EVE style this doesn't lead to uber chars that are indestructable. There are no levels and so you don't progress as in most MMORPGs so by the time you're at the level cap if you farted near a group of newbies they'd all drop dead from your uber high level fart! From my limited experience there's alot of skills but the playing field stays fairly even, like EVE it's when you get high tier gear you become alot tougher but I'm not certain how big the difference is.

Sandbox: I haven't seen any sandbox elements yet (only 3 days), in fact I haven't even found sal vitas! They say they['ll bring in territorial conquest in march but AFAIK there could be player housing in now or not, someone else will have to comment on that. All I can say is that the map is big enough for player housing and I think you could allow SWG type housing, from a technical point of view I don't know if it's viable though.

Quests: All I've seen so far ar kill quests and gather quests, nothing special but I didn't really expect it to be so. No arrows pointing you to and from your quests so you have to do some leg work and thinking (why I put this thread up!) which is good.

Map: Large, I think the DFO map is larger however this one isn't small by comparison.  I'd say it's larger than MO and atleast double the size of your large planet in SWG.

Mounts: None yet but will be introduced after launch, like speeders in SWG.

GUI: Standard, works well for me but then I always adapt to a games GUI.

Conclusion: Graphicaly it looks polished, however it isn't. The combat does feel sluggish when using melee, you have to turn off shadows and HDR otherwise your FPS is about 15 (I get 40 - 70 without). Connection to the server is slow, I'm not getting rubber banding but it makes aiming in combat a real pain and some seem to get it worse than others. My ping is often 300 - 400 MS and I'm in the U.K. However having said that there are no game breaking bugs or glitches or memory leaks (AoC) so it isn't all doom and gloom. There will be performance issues at launch and for a month or two due to volume and the fact that the connection isn't exactly fabulous anyway, but I haven't witnessed any game breaking issues that would have me drowning kittens and throwing my tower out of the window whilst I laugh and giggle like a gibbering mad man out of the window (looking at you Funcom).

So Yeah I'm going to buy this at launch, it seems good enough to play and if I get nothing else out of it I'll get that new game ride for the first 6 months when the DEVs actualy give a shit and you can communicate with them.

Thanks for the input!  My main concern with this game is the aim & shoot style always gave me pause in MMOs.  With this many people in a game (as opposed to the 16 you get on an XBOX Live round), there are bound to be connection issues which can make pointing and shooting enraging/impossible at times.  Then, will we have people "lag attacking" to gain an advantage?  I'm no technical expert, I don't know what it takes to do that.  I just know it gets done to me on Xbox Live from time to time, and I hope its much harder to do (or easier to detect) in an MMO.

I haven't actually ever tried one.  Some problems are to be expected, I am just worried about them being a gamebreaker.  I am happy to hear that you haven't come across any gamebreakers as of yet.

Again, thanks for sharing your experience so far!

I think I've died to lag once or maybe twice, both times it was against NPCs. Also the lag in combat (for me) causes me to fire late by a second or half a second resulting in missing. In a large PvP battle I can see shit happening, killing a friendly and getting criminal points or getting killed or being killed thanks to it but to be honest that happens in all large scale MMO combat. It happens in EVE and DFO and they've been out for years.

I looked at it this way in EVE and DFO, I died to lag a few times but I also got some cheap kills thanks to lag a few times. It evened itself out so it wasn't a big issue for me as long as I got my turn to crap on someone from a height because of it no kittens were drowned!

Earthrise is full of great concepts and cool ideas, and awesome ideas. The only thing keeping me at bay is server lags and performance. Control are little ass backward so a key mapping thing would be nice. they need to work on this game another month, but if not that is there call not mine, so I will wait another month or two before I look back at earthrise since beta is beta but less then a few days away till release and they have some major issues u tackle 1st.
