Hello.

This is in no way a hate/troll post, just a thought that popped into my head while reading up on some Earthrise info.

We can all recall and remeber the interesting happenings of other titles along the lines of this type of developed mmo.

Mortal online, Darkfall for instance. Both games are trying there hardest to get back on track, some ppl are happy some are not, but anyways.

My point is, whats to say Earthrise is going to be different? Now I know it has to launch sometime and i'm sure they wil be updating to sort out any starting issues, but lets just hope its not another rubber banding lag infested skill imbalaced system where exploiters can run amuck.

The one example that got me thinking about this was reading about the skill advancment with no limits. It sounds alot like DF, and all the complaint posts I tend to read about DF involve the fact they hate the skill system. Food for thought.

P.s

I know I am taking  a risk on this post with the real fans of Earthrise , but I ensure you it is intending for creative conversation.

Skill cap? In my opinion what Earthrise need to be worried about now is fixing the lag and rubberbanding, once the serves are stable and running nice you can start to think about stuff like skill cap.

Anyway as I see it, the game should have some kind of skill cap or decay. Anytime you kill a mob you get points to spend on skills... sure, it needs some kind of skill cap, or may just  a limit on how many skill trees you can have active, or something like that.

Somebody on the forums said there is a skillcap. I cannot actually confirm this.

My thoughts are this: If they can get the servers stable and get it so that people can reliably login and play, anything else is fixable or adjustable. My fear would be that they never really get the basics fixed. PvP in the training/tutorial area? Could be easily overlooked as an introduction to the rest of the game. Giving out ranged weapons in the melee training area, making it nearly impossible for melee people to kill the training bots? Easily fixable. Skill caps and a disparity between different levels of gear? Fixable and adjustable.

Do not repeast Mortal Online's horses running up trees, out of the ground, horse riding swords, etc. Just get the basics fixed and working.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

My only thoughts are that it tries to be Tabula Rasa but really isn't.

It's a skill driven system yes, but you can't go shooting up anything you want, you still are "leveling" but they create the illusion that it's a FFA open world tabula rasa style game.

in my opinion it's just as theme park as the rest, and the FPS aspect is really clunky.

Graphically, it's awesome, and that seems to be all it's got going for it.

How do they create an illusion of a FFA open world game? It IS FFA and it IS open world and you CAN shoot up anything you want (with the exception of a couple of "demilitarized" zones). And there has to be some sort of leveling system as it is a MMORPG.

My concern that this is yet another under funded Indie MMO which will launch prematurely just to get some revenue coming and permanantly cripple any chance the game might have had at real success. (if they're not at that point already.)

The game is launching Feb 4th. There is no other option for them. The money is out and thats the date they have been given. Its a matter of launch or never launch.

Quiet frankly I enjoy the game as it is. Yes, it needs some work and yes there are some bugs. But the fact that the base of the game is solid and fun and the crafting is crazy deep means that there is alot of room for them to expand up.  If they can keep to the road map and keep the bug fixs rolling in, then i can see the game holding a small but stable player base.

Did you just call the game a theme park game? For real?  Do you even know what a theme park game is?

There is not a single thing theme park about Earthrise other then the tutorial zone. I'm just not sure what game you played if you think Earthrise is a theme park.

I'd love to give an opinion, but so far the only thing I've gotten to test much of is the login process. That works like a charm!

So im a bit confused and need help choosing a game to play..

There is rift, a full featured almost no bugs, hundreads of quests, mobs, events, dungeons, mounts, gear weapons souls and archtypes to choose from and mix it to hundreads of classes, has thousands of players its stable...to sum it up its a beta game that is already better then most games out for years.

Then there is earthrise a beta game that is in pre alpha state, has nice graphics with many glitches, rubberbanding, almost empty of content and mobs or quests, combat is bad, animations are bad, comunity is very small and will decline very very soon.

What to play?..its a very hard choice...can someone help?

Can't really help you in that department. You'll have to make up your own mind.

I'll say this though. You can go with Rift which is just another flavor of MMOs you've probably already played or take a risk with Earthrise.

Sure, for your service. You can play Rift but its just the same old, same old....why to play another game with the same features as all the others you have played ? At least Earthrise is trying to do something different. Buggy and has glitches but it may surprise you. Give it a go.

I've already pre-ordered Rift. I don't see myself buying Earthrise anytime soon. I might have done if Earthrise was anywhere near finished as they are completely different games.

My main fear is that Earthrise is going to own the living hell out of my computer. I can't understand why my comp can run Crysis smoothly at max settings but still is sluggish in this game. I heard that the visuals are going to be heavily optimized in the final release, so it probably should be less of an issue.

How anyone can think this game is going to make it blows my mind. Im not here to bash on the ones who like it, i want it to work out but after playing the beta for the last two weeks, i just cant see it happening.  Its a sandbox filled with JANK.

The problem is that FFA sandbox games are such a tiny niche. So anybody that tries to make one is on a shoestring budget.

The playerbase of this type of game feeds off of other players. Those players eventually tire out and "die".  Unless you make a system like Eve where a huge portion of the universe is off-limits to PvP. So that you can have place for the "sheep" to grow stonger or even become "wolves" themselves eventually.

I would love to have tested it more so I could have got a proper fealing for what the game was like. My problem was the beta client running the crap out of my computer. Have only just had it fixed. From what I witnesed It had so much ruberbanding It was pretty much unplayable for me.  I know a lot of people I was speaking to didn't have as many problems with the client as I did, and it already looks to be building a strong and loyal fanbase. Hope it's enough for the game to last long enough for some proper graphics optimisation so I can have another go.

Got a chance to play tonight and it was much better than yesterday. It could be that the big rush had passed through, or they had done something to the servers. Whatever it was, the game was working. My character that was stuck with the 'No Zone Servers Available' bug yesterday was unstuck today. Still a bit laggy in spots, but it was intermittent and very playable. I do prefer the hybrid shooter/mmo combat to Fallen Earth's implementation. It's actually smoother, even though you don't have head shots with ER.

That's it so far. It's gone from totally unplayable to playable.
