Having ample content at launch would have been rather ideal too.

People can crown those games as fads all they want but those games didn't live up to their expectations thanks to piss poor management decisions.   Both of those games had the chance and opportunity to be a juggernaut in the genre rather than games most sneer at.

    Same goes for Warhammer.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    Well...

Good thought, but in the end the King declares this spin. If anything it's a slightly less appealing twin, therefore a deformed clone of WoW.

Are you serious?  I just was reading through all the non sense going on here in this thread about rift and relationship it has with wow... then came across the words "Slightly less appealing than WoW"

lmao.. Ok.... I'll bite here, What if it is a slightly , if not, mostly more appealing than WoW? How about that one?

I played wow before, and I played Rift. There is no denying at early stages of the game Rift has way more appeal to it than wow early stages.  All I can talk about is the early levels 1-25 of the game, because that is all I know. I do know that it was a blast, compared to WoW lvl 1-20 was a snooze fest.

How is that related to the "WoW clone" stigma?

It was its 3rd cousin on my mommas side.

The argument is ridiculous. This thread is kind of silly in itself.  Is it related to wow??? Who knows. Does it have similiarities? Yes, like all MMORPGS this game has a few similarities with others.

isnt everything a clone of something i dont where this clone thing started but its a utterly stupid comment and as for rift being a brother of wow...isnt evey mmo nowa days like the lil brother..i mean ..i hate wow but its been the greedy fat guy on top of the hill for a long time now

Come on! Rift makes WoW look like it came out in the 90's.

Only thing WoW has on rift are the slightly more fluid combat animations (and thats subjective!).

Everything else is either superior in Rift or too close to call.

I know people are invested in WoW, over six years is a long time. Thats a lot of money spend, strong social bonds created and Im aware of how hard it is to leave a character behind that you've been roleplaying as everyday for six years.

    But guys! Wake up please!!!

    Waiting on: GW2, BP

I thought that was the underlying sarcastic point of the op.

Maybe I'm giving them too much credit.

Yes, What I'm trying to say is that it's not a clone at all... Clone means exactly the same, and I think it's a stupid comparison as well.

The point of the post was to try and give a better way to answer all these people that think Rift is just a WoW Clone... I say we counter their stupid comment with one of our own.... Rift is WoW's cooler cousin...

Oh well. I guess WoW is the Paris Hilton of MMO's and I would call RIFT the younger, but much lesser known cousin.

To each his own, but I definately think RIFT is not only better looking but she communicates on more levels and has a broader perspective on life. She really makes you feel special, even after 1 or 2 dates without revealing everything.

Oh and one more thing: She did not repeatedly sleep with this gnome

We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!
    (repeat ad infinitum)

To me they're both sorta like this.

If you think either one is good, the other is just as good. Saying WoW sucks for any reason is saying that RIFT sucks in the same way. It's kind of pointless. All MMOlite games are fun to look at, but in the end anyone who has a real sense of 'self' about them will just say "God bless they lil' hearts."

Really hating RIFT and liking WoW or liking RIFT and hating WoW is like having too strong of an opinion on which of your own feet you like more.

    Futile.

Will develop an original MMORPG title for money.

What kills me about this whole comparision thing, is that people act like WoW was the first MMO, WoW took a lot of the good things from EQ,. SWG and DAOC along with AC were out long before WoW and they had guess what? Linear quests, PvP, PvP lakes PvP servers all those thing that some WoW players think Blizzard invented. Lets not even mention UO

So I guess Rift is really a EQ clone without the massive level grind or brutal death penalty oh wait that is wow, I mean war no AoC get the picture, it is hard to call another game a clone when the one you play actually is.

That's a great point! They really are all related in some form, but each game is also unique.  I just picked WoW because it's the one I saw being compared to Rift the most. However I think that All MMO's have some commonality. I guess I should have specified that, but I hope that point is well know by now... IF not then I'm sure there would be more than enough people to elaborate that WoW was not the first MMO, its not the precedent MMO, it is only the MMO that holds the title as "most well known."

In all actuality I'm hoping to make that distinction with my analogy... The idea that Rift is a cousin of WoW is attempting to portray that, yes there are similarities, but they are also each unique... Though we may disagree on how similar, or unique, they are. We can all agree that no two MMO's are "clones" least of all Rift and WoW.

As I have beta tested Rift I have not at all felt like I was playing wow, and I have played wow since beta. Actually it felt more like EQ2 more so then WoW given all the different souls with a splash of DAOC thrown in. If people remember right DAOC had PvP zones pre 50 that were like BGs
