Now i feel silly.  How can i get into Everquest?  Like physically how?  I have went over the website and i click on the upgrade option but then i get sent to a page that is not relevent and when i do get sent to a relevent page it gives me an error.  Is it possiblet o buy the base game with station points?  Is my best bet a starter pack or through amazon?

    Thanks

There will be tons of people, possibly too many... just like back when the game first started.  It'll be crazy but fun.  For forums best place is the EQ1 official forum, and you can post in The Newbie Zone without an active subscription if you have questions.

I have to agree.  The last time they did a progression server they had to immediately after open up a second one to accomodate all the people wanting to play.

I'm still on the fence about this. It was a good time back in 2000-2004, but the genre has progressed and so have my expectations. I'm not looking forward to the boring raids, forced grouping, and everything else that lead to EQs downfall. Then again, EQ classic plus Kunark is still one of my favorite all time experiences.

i'm curious if the buffs/nerfs given to a few spells will remain. Also, some of you may remember that spells were handed out every 4 levels. Healing spells were given to druids/shamans much later than they are now. I wonder if that will change, as well.

All the things your not looking forward to is all the things i am looking forward to i rather be forced to group with my peers because this Genre is suppose to mean multiplayer not singleplayer that is where this genre went wrong thanks to some of the games that came out in the last 7 years. as far as EQ's downfall that was a whole diffrent story.

I can not wait for this tbh and i hope they dont have launch 1 server i hope because of the interest they have to add 3 or 4 because that will show some devs what alot of us whant with EQ Next and hope they learn from this.

If you have an old EQ account you would like to reactivate, simply go to www.soe.com and login, then subscribe to your EQ account.  If you don't have an EQ account to reactivate, then purchase House of Thule from Amazon, create a new soe account, and input the CD key you get from Amazon into that account.  That will then flag your new soe account to have 17 out of 17 expansions in EQ1, and will start the 30 day free play.

House of Thule from Amazon for $19.99 is the best price option, because the starter pack cost the same but does not include the latest expansion.

If you want the upgraded & updated EQ, then there's 14 regular servers you can play on. EQ today has a lot of the new features from the genre, and a lot of the things have changed from the old days.

TLP server however is made more for those that want to re-experience the classic days of EQ.  So if you dislike the classic days, you may not enjoy TLP as much.  But you said classic + kunark is your fav all time experience in MMO's so I think you'll fit right in.  Remember it's a progression server, so things will move forward and expansions will open up at a faster pace.  Whether that's good or bad, I think most will say having a server that progress is better than one that's stagnate.

It's a good time to give it a try imo.  The newbie rush would be just like playing a new game, but this time, with old nostalgia.

Unless all content in a game scales to number of players with robust incentives to group, which we have yet to see done, any play model that isnt forced grouping is almost by defintion forced soloing.

    I know which one I prefer. ;)

I know for some editions of the game, you have to have the base everquest game installed in order to purchase the expansions.

I know some websites will sell you base everquest with some expansions added as well.

Direct2drive I believe has everquest and such.  You might be able to buy it off of the official website as well, but I am not sure.

As far as an actual hard copy disk of the game, you might call aruond best buy, gamestop, or whatever computer game stores you have near you and see if they have any hard copies.

Or try amazon.com or what not..

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

I just tried to buy it through sony and i get errors when ever it is time to process. I  contacted station support and they said they would forward me a reference number.  I dont think i got that reference yet.  They said it was a bug with my station account.  Has that happened to anyone else?  Should i just go to d2d or amazon and try again?

Everything the EQ1 devs have done so far for the TLP server, it shows exactly that they are listening.  Every requests for them to take defiant out, to disable OOC regen until a certain expansion, to not allow marketplace mounts and +stats items, to give the server longer set timer so we have a *guaranteed* 3 months of classic, 2 months of kunark, and 2 months of velious.  This is guaranteed, and pending player votes, they could last longer.  It sure sounds to me like they've listened to the playerbase.

Look I get it, you're an EQ emu server enthusiast.  If you like that server, great I'm happy for you, go play your server.  But there will be a lot of us looking forward to Fippy Darkpaw.  I know many people don't exactly like the idea of idle stagnant servers like the emu server.  While many of us like to re-experience classic, we do still want to see expansion progress, we do want to move forward along with our friends on the official live EQ servers.  So I'm happy for you that you have a place to play, but please leave the excitement to the rest of us that are looking forward to the new time locked progression server.

Are you buying through soe because you are reactivating an old account?   Buying through Amazon/D2D is easier, since you can simply login to your soe account through www.soe.com and enter the activate code.  Voila done.

From Amazon, it's $19.99 for House of Thule, which is cheaper than what they sell at soe.  Also if you use the key for a new soe account you get the first 30 day free.  But if you have an old account and would like to reactivate that one instead, you can just login to that old account and go to the enter activation code section to enter your new key.

Well said.  I also tried the "EMU" P1999 craze and quite frankly it did not feel "real" and "authentic" as playing on the original SoE hosted servers.

But the same thing could be said about Blizzard and any other company. They release something to get you to come bak or spend money on then after a year or so rinse repeat. Cataclysm is great point as they said hmm how can we get newer people into the game again. oh i know lets change all the old quests a little bit change the landscape then omg CATACLYSM. So quit hatin on SoE, yeah they are trying to make a profit, but at least this time they are listening to the players and not the raider.

Unofficial forums for the new server:

    http://www.fippydarkpaw.com/

Lots of us signing up. Old schoolers all over the place! I'm definately in. Already cancelled all my other game subs and plan to just play my first love.

Its not classic, but its as close as I am going to be able to reasonably see. That alone is good enough for me!

Alright, I figure this is the right place to ask. I never played EQ1 classic, I jumped in at a game very similar to it PvE wise-Dark Age of Camelot, but I never experienced the harsh depths of EQ gameplay.

I've heard many talking about the glory days of EQ, and I've really wanted to experience them. With this server, I'll be able to group up and see all the zones I've heard about...but how much of the old gameplay will be returning?

Will the world still be harsh and dark, with you need torches at night?

    Will there be corpse runs?

    Boat rides to get arond?

Factions that kill some races on sight?

    Slow healing?

Emphasis on farming and group based gameplay?

Actually talking to NPCs to get quests?

Or have all these features been gutted and "WoW"ified? I want to play an oldschool MMO, with grouping and social interdependency, not a slightly better looking game of WoW.

Also, does anyone know the cheapest possible way to buy a client?

  • CasualMakerCasualMaker Member UncommonPosts: 862

At what point was the "Escape to Norrath" trial added? I played it last year, then Station got a brain fart and decided that EverQuest was activated on that account (base game, Kunark and Velious).

Yes there will be all of this stuff although Corpse runs i am not sure about but the rest will be there the cheapest way right now is to buy the house of thule expansion pack it will include all 17 expansions to the game you will get your 30 days free and etc so i hope if you go this route you stick with it  the game in its classic days even now there is nothing that can touch it .

as a person posted above Direct2drive has it 50% off so thats $19.99 great deal.

if you are looking for a person to group up with alot let me know i will be on the game a real lot so if your a casual player i may outlevel you but ill still beable to help you. just send me a PM.

Cheapest is buying House of Thule (latest expansion) from Amazon or D2D.  Both offer it at $19.99, which if you use it for a new soe account, it gives you 30 day free.   $19.99 you get all 17 of 17 expansions and 30 day free, it's a steal.  Note that if you apply this cd key to an old, existing EQ account, you will not get the 30 day free.  So even for people who are coming back and just want to resubscribe for 1 month, you're already going to pay $15, might as well pay $5 more to get your account up to the latest expansion.

-Yes, at night time some race can't see well, you'll need torches or lightstones.  No defiant armor which means no automatic light which are on all defiant helms.

-Yes corpse runs, you won't drop items on your corpses anymore unlike the old days, but you still need to get your corpse to recover your exp.

-Yes boat rides, it won't be to everywhere, but currently there are at least 1 or 2 boat rides still alive.

-Faction is very much alive in the early days of EQ, so yes choose your race and know where you're going carefully.

-Slow healing?  If you mean lack of out of combat regen, then yes, it's disabled until TSS expansion.

-Classic zones have more emphasis on group gameplay.  It won't be required for some classes, but best gear is always found in dungeons where you will want/need to group.

-Yes, even to this day in EQ, you "hail" npc's to get quests.

Sounds like you're ready for the time-locked progression server, hope to see you there  image

Thanks guys, it's really reassuring to hear all of this. I'll look to grabbing that deal asap from D2D. Just one thing to clarify: what I meant by boat rides (and what I didn't say too clearly) was... is there going to be a lot of instant travel, or will it be more old style travel? I know some classes can teleport, but I meant more.. just being able to warp around anywhere.

I'll be lookign forward to playing this with all of you :)

Instant travels will come with Planes of Power expansion, that's when PoK books will start working.  Until then, most of your travels will still be asking for teleports and running across zones.  There are translocators that port you from continent to continent, many of them replaced the boat rides.  They'll be about the only instant travel that have changed from the old days.

I wouldn't worry about them though, just because you can translocate from one dock to another dock, doesn't mean you don't still have to run multiple zones to get where you're going.

Unless boat ride to timerous deep from sro is gone they restored all the boat rides back. The boat from efp to bb is restored back to its glory and no translocators. dunno if the old boat trick still works though for the evil races trying to hitch a ride though.

edit: reason i say sro also is because they merged oasis of marr and sro so dont try in flame me for saying that also.

I never played EQ, all my knowledge about it comes from friends and podcasters and their retrospectives. I've always lamented the fact that I wasn't there for EQ or Asheron's Call, now I get my chance :)  I'm just hoping for a social and immersive MMO experience again. Last time I had one of those was in Vanguard.

One more curious question, is there an in game map? (kinda hoping there isn't, I love exploring old MMOs without one)
