The short but honest review is that ER is unpolished but very playable. I have played 2 days in beta these are my thoughts.
What I like about ER:
1) ER is a true sandbox game. Skills can be mixed and matched. Open world PvP. Crafting I haven't figured out yet but hear it is simular to Pre CU SWG.
2) Weapons seem to have ballance at least at low levels each weapon specility will shine in different areas.
3) PvP is skill based. Though I really don't like FPS games it has maybe a 20% FPS and a 80% MMO style. I find that it suits me. The outcome depends more heavily on strategy and terrain usage and range then how fast your video card is.
4) I like how the world looks. I can tell a lot of work has been put into the differnt terrains and the graphics are top notch as far as MMO's go. To make myself clear I am only comparing to other MMO's dont expect Crisis graphics.
5) The community seems top notch. I have yet to get a hate tell after I kill them even If I have griefed them over and over. Community is very important in a sandbox game to me because they really make the game not the developers.
What I do not like about ER:
1) Crashing, as I crash about every 3 hours with a high end computer from 2 years ago. Other guildies do not crash as much but I still find this annoying.
2) Small bugs that add up for me are how your map will stop working and go dark. About 5% of the NPC's are bugged. I am sure their are a million other small things that just annoy me at times with this game.
3) ER lacks polish. It think it needs several more months to work out the various small bugs.
Analysis:
Like I said I find earthrise unpolished but very playable. It has many bugs but a solid core game. I detest how devs release a game before it is ready but realize that only independant companies will release a sandbox mmo these days. I could play any number of upcoming releases but with themepark MMO's you know exactly where it starts and ends and I am only going to throw my money at companies that have more inovative open ended games.
