Beta 3 fail. Beta 4 fail. Beta 5 - Awesome.

I know there are a lot of people who like I almost did, never looked at Rift again after Beta 3 and 4.

The game ran so badly and you weren't given enough soul points at low levels to make investing in multiple souls worthwhile at all.  Added to which, you HAD to choose one of three of the 8 available classes rather than choose any of them.

It was bad.

All of these issues were rectified in beta 5.  By level 10 - 12 you have a multi-classed toon that is really starting to come to life.

Rift won't be for everyone.  No game is. But there really is a great appeal in being able to create the class you want and you can spend a lot of time hypothesising very different builds.

The worodl is looking good and the game is running pretty damn smoothly.  I have a q6600 with 4gb Ram and an ATI 5850 - by no means a huge rig and the game runs pretty nice around 30FPS solidly on high settings.

Anyway, I'd really recommend people snap up a beta key for this weekend if they get chance.  There's loads around and it's definitely worth a proper look.

People in the UK can get the game for only £24.99 from Game.  I haven't seen the high level content yet, but if I spend £24.99 plus one months sub and play for two months, I've had my moneys worth.  I'll spend £44.99 on some ps3 games and complete them in two weeks.

Give it a try.

BETA 5 was great, but I don't recommend this game for anyone with a lower end system. It will turn them off to the game and they will come here flaming how bad the engine is. I'm upgrading my RAM myself only to be able to pump up the level of graphics.

People who are interested in pc gaming really shouldnt have a low end system.

Beta 4 was the best sofar, imo. The term 'Rift, where the npcs camp players' was pretty much right on. They had the spawn and difficulty turned up so high we could barely take a hub back before another roaming pack would roll back in. All the mobs were elite and pulling one meant the whole pack came and wiped you into the ground.

Definately felt the most dangerous of all the beta's for me, even though I know it was not playable for release. I had a blast despite haveing my rear handed to me quite frequently!

I think every beta was great but I'm glad you finally came around to the positive side!
