I last played EVE about 6 months ago. I enjoyed the Planetary Interaction aspect alot but still felt like I was missing something. I'm thinking about going back to EVE because it is the only real sandbox MMO around and I am burnt out from WoW-type theme parks.
I'm wondering, what "profession" should I do in addition to PI? I guess manufacturing/mining would be the way to go but I dont know what the PI recourses are used to manufacture. I know I should find a corp to play with but if I dont know what I want to then it is hard to find a corp.
Also, is wormhole (or any) exploration viable to do solo or in hi-sec? I remember doing the scanning tutorial when I last played and thought that was fun as well.

There are a lot of corps that focus on PI, usually also focusing on manufactureing and such.. ATM i'am actually in such a corp but i'am pretty much only called in for protection as i don't mine or do PI.. Actually just sold my free primae not too long ago hah.. But yeah, if you plan on sticking on the manufactureing route i'd defiantly look into joining a manufactureing corp that'd help run you through the loops, and preferabley a bigger one that way if you get war dec'd they'll be able to fight back or a wealthy one that can afford to hire mercs.
I don't know but about wormholes tbh.. Never done one.. But i have scanned down sites before and done those.. Just the other day we did a site with a giant Caladari titan that spit out a bunch of battle ships/cruisers/frigs/ect.. Was fun and i got pretty decent salvage and tags that sold for a decent ammount of isk.. I would've made more money running a mission, but then again the site was in .8space empire so drops won't be spectacular.. Honestly if you're gonna gonna wormhole/site searching it'd prolly be best to do it in a group and if you really want big rewards in lo/null sec.

@Hellfyre420: From the research I have been able to do it looks like all the PI resources end up becoming either POS fuel, POS structure parts so if you dont have a POS the only thing to do would be to sell the resources. The profit might be higher if they are manufactured into POS structures, but maybe not. From what I have read there is very little to no profit in T1 manufacturing and (from what I remember) it is impossible to find a free hi-sec research facility to improve BPOs, so one would need access to a POS to do that.
@Robokapp: Ya, I know there is alot to do in EVE and that is my problem. Most corps seem to specialize in one or 2 things (like mining and manufacturing, or PVP). I guess maybe I should look for a corp that does a variety of things and try to test the waters.
I was thinking about training for a blockade runner to do some lowsec trading/PI. I assume that would keep me "relatively" safe in low sec.
I'm going to think on this a bit longer and keep a eye on the corp recruitment forums to see if anything catches my eye.
What do you mean "in addition"?
PI is so forgettable that I am usually only reminded of it when i accidently hit the PI button instead of the warp to / align button when selecting a planet in space.
Nothing you "learn" for PI will help you in other parts of the game, so what you're going to do for actual gameplay is entirely up to you. Mining has been made worthless over the years, so if you really want to go into production, start with some high volume t1 stuff that still has a decent margin. Ammo, some frigates..
if you can sit yourself in a drake or something with a comparable omni, hisec wormholes could land you a lot of dough as long as you don't get yourself podded in there if you plan to go solo.
As for what to do, you may want to look at this.
I play in a sandbox.
I have fun setting up colonies and surveying planets. I thought maybe the resources I harvest via PI could be used for T1 manufacturing (turns out I was wrong according to my research).
It's also used for tech 2.
If you have fun with PI then you might have fun with exploration and as somebody above pointed out, the wormhole might be in high sec but it will probably lead to a null sec area so be careful.
You might also need to transport the items you get to a bigger market because the one that I work out of; the goods don't sell very well.
Planetary industry products can be used in some of the following production:
- Player Owned Structures(POS)
Includes towers, modules and sovereignty structures- Capital modules construction
Higher meta/faction modules- POS fuel
Resources needed by towers to operate- T2 production
Miscellaneous T2 components- Nanite repair paste
Nanite repair paste productionI hope I didn't miss anything.
T1 manufacturing(capitals are slightly different, a bit like UO) is the basics of manufacturing in any game - go out, collect resources and with the usage of recipe build an item. T2 production is where EVE rocks.
