My Review of Rift...No Thanks

djnexusdjnexus Member Posts: 677

Spent from 10am till 9pm downloading and installing the game yesterday never having played before untill Beta 6. Logged in and rolled on the Guardian side got to lvl 10 and logged. Woke up this morning rolled Defiant got to lvl 10 helped seal some Rifts and PVPed thru Warfronts a little bit. This is my thoughts and review on the game. Its polished and the graphics are really nice, also the soul tree is pretty nice but thats about it. The game is way to easy I didnt need a single group while playing the whole time, the more and more these newer games come out the more and more I think its destroying this genre. If I wanted a solofest game id easily install and play one of the great classic games instead like Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights or Baulders Gate. There was no challenge. Even in Warfronts I see its the same Blizzard/Warhammer route thats been done before. I noticed alot of similarities between this and a few other games mainly World of Warcraft including Icons, Colors, UI look and design, Ghosting at death. There is no real penalty at death and I think thats lame. Coming from great games like Everquest, Dark Ages of Camelot, Ultima Online and Darkfall im inclined to uninstall this game and never look back, and its exactly what I just did. What ever happened to grouping? non instanced pvp? and open world dungeons? and also challenge and some kind of real death penalty? I see its the same tried and true formula used on the newschool mmo players thats all been done before. This is just my take on it, whoever has fun with the game I wish you luck. I just need something more than what Rifts offers and I see I must look elsewere for that. I need meaningful gameplay and challenge. Later. (also the quests on both sides Guardian and Defiant are exactly the same just slightly diffrent, and the game holds your hand to much)

Excatly, I'm with you. I don't hate the game b/c Trion decided to go WoW route. I sincerley hope they do well. But a "solo fest" no doubt.

Let's see how TOR and GW2 do :)

I've got a bad feeling about GW2 as well ><

You got to level 10. Forgive the devs for making the first 10 levels fairly easy.

By the time you are in your mid teens, you'll be dying a lot and cursing the healing costs.

Even level mobs become pretty challanging and the aggro range is further than most current titles. You have to be careful as you move off the road to do your quests. Attract an add or two in the wrong place and you may be taking a dirt nap.

Every level, from 14 on, has been a little more difficult than the last. Of course, the game offers plenty of quests to level, so if you are someone who needs to do every quest along the way, you might end up a couple levels higher than what you are fighting, which will really knock down the difficulty level. If you want a challange, keep with content at your level.

I've seen people group up for "solo" content in some of the more dangerous regions, because they got sick of dying.

you played till lvl 10 on each faction. what the fuck did you expect?!

do RotF or IT and then talk about how the game is crap. or actually get past the first area of silverwood or freemarch.

i hate people who review a game after 10 levels and think it sums up the entire game. which is now up to level 35 in beta.

    Playing: Smite, Marvel Heroes
Played: Nexus:Kingdom of the Winds, Everquest, DAoC, Everquest 2, WoW, Matrix Online, Vangaurd, SWG, DDO, EVE, Fallen Earth, LoTRo, CoX, Champions Online, WAR, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Guild Wars, Rift, Tera, Aion, AoC, Gods and Heroes, DCUO, FF14, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, Wildstar, ESO, ArcheAge
Waiting On: Nothing. Mmorpg's are dead.

I love how when the beta events start the haters take over the forums (ones that have never played the game past lvl10) and after the beta event is over the people that have played the beta talk about how much they are enjoying Rift...

The forums are yours Rift haters for about two more days then the people that have actually played the game will be back talking about Rift in it's real light...

Untill then enjoy!! Back to the beta woot...

If I played to level 10 in every themepark MMO I would hate all of them too.  Seriously.  You should have taken one character up to 20 at least.  Especially considering most of the Rifts and Invasions are in the 10-20 range and are the shining aspect of the game.  Heck, you didn't even get to a dungeon running level.

I am shocked that you would even post after only 10 lvls.  Just play wow or Aion or war for the first 10 lvls then tell whats the best game.

You might do quests solo but after lvl 18 you won't do Rifts solo (esp. major ones and into their bonus rounds) and you won't do dungeons solo. There is other content you won't solo as well.

No disrespect to the OP but if anyone is really looking for accurate information about the game don't listen to someone who has only played 10 levels of it. Good or bad. The great thing about this is that looking at information posted by folks who claim to have made at least lvl 20, you can tell if they are BSing.

So true. It must really suck not to be enjoying Rift when so many are. I'm level 21 now and have to say things get better and better for the long time MMO player. More challenge. Exploration is top notch. Combat during events becomes more strategic.

    Back to beta!!
