I still play Ryzom love that game, Shame its pop is so low. I tried EVE and really liked it, But lost a ship due to a glitch (Ship refused to warp and just incase a fanboy comes along, No I was not warp jammed or anything.) So I won't play it. I have a tendacy to lose my cool when I think something is BS so I can only imagine what I would do a few weeks/months in in a ship I worked weeks/months to get got destroyed because of some type of glitch.
So I'm looking for something EVE-ish. It doesn't need to be in space or w/e. But I'm looking for something a little complicated, And something I can play and avoid /go here do this come back ,do it again somewhere else/ type quest. I prefer no quest at all lol.
I don't mind loss of things for death, But If the game has it, It needs to be glitchless lol. I cannot stand WoW, It bores me to death.
So maybe if anyone has played Ryzom / Eve and enjoyed them, You could point me off in the right direction. Thanks.

The game most similar to Eve on the market right now is Perpetuum. It shares many of the same mechanics, but is played with robots on the ground. It's very recently released so it doesn't have the same amount of development time as Eve. I haven't played it myself so I can't comment on how good it is.
Always read the small print.
*thumbs in poster's direction* see.
*stares Nerf09 down* I don't see anything

I think Anarchy Online is still a pretty good game. I think the only bad thing about the game is the low pop. However, I usually find a group (paid account w/ all x-pacs). Dunno how the game is for Froobs or SLoobs (maybe better situation than Froobs). But it's a tight community and who is there isn't leaving anytime soon. So, when it comes to population, I look at it as it couldn't get any worse (which isn't that bad already). I find plenty of people to interact with and that's all that matters. And yes, total strangers count in that statement.
I like how I can customize my toon to fit my play style and not have to look on the forums for the one and only "spec" that is good like all of the other games have to do. For example, unlike most games, if you decide that your want an offensive healer, you can. It doesn't gimp your healing. I can use fist, sticks, hammers, swords, dual pistols, shotgun, bow, smgs, heavy weapons. I can have an evade build, Hit points, Heal delta, whatever I want. Or, I can make a Nano delta build, no weapon skills and just heal and let my friends do the fighting ( which I have done too ). Is a Doctor the best profession in game? Nope. But then again, what really is? Every profession excels at one thing and sucks at another ( please hold Advy comments ).
One day (*cough*) they are going to update the graphics engine and character models (not animations). In fact, if it wasn't for outdated graphics, some of the goodies would still be on top in the MMO genre ( i.g. EQ, AO ).
There really is a lot of stuff to do.
If I could have one thing, it would be a new fresh server launch after the new engine comes out. I would LOVE to start from scratch just for that new game feel.
You can play a basic version for free. Play it to level 200. By then, you should have a good understanding of the game and make a decision if you want to get a paid account. There are Froob Orgs to join too so you're not totally lonely. Just don't power-level and twink your way to 200, you're going to need the credits that you'll get from snail-leveling ( so you can PL and twink next time :P ). Oh, and roll a MA or Advy. Advys can do anything, but MAs are cheaper to level. Both are great choices for a first character and can earn you some money and items.
Anyways, this is all just my opinion.
The new games don't offer me anything and I have turned back to the older ones without regret.
I agree with the above poster. I seem to find my way back to older games as well (Vanguard and Eve for me).
If you're looking for a fun game to try, take a look at the Darkfall free trial. It's not a game for everyone but it does offer quite a bit. Crafting is decent and they are adding more and more PVE content as the game moves forward. It does have it's problems though...as all MMO's do as PVP is vet dominated.
As I mentioned above, I continue to return to Vanguard and Eve myself. I'm currently playing Vanguard and having a great time. It's one of the few old school games left.
I'd look for a game that has a 10 or 14 day trial and see what you like. Good luck and let me know if you try any of the games I listed. Have fun!
It means dittos
Oh I see :P
Also, I was looking around a bit on the Vanguard forums here, because I wanted to play that game when it was first released, my PC didn't stand a chance tho... But everything there on that forum seems so negative and like the game is doomed. Coming from Ryzom I've had more than my share of that lol.
I remember that the game seemed to have ALOT of things I liked, And my first guild from Ryzom (and still the one that holds the fondest memories) had moved there, But they've all scattered to the far winds now
Plus I think I saw VG is 17.99 a month? And has no Dev team working on it? Seems a little over the top, Even Ryzom is only like 10.99 And actually has things worked on from time to time. (Alot of small additions were made between this and the last time I played)
