Fileplanet needs a serious F-ING wake up call...

DeviantCompDeviantComp Member UncommonPosts: 50

The following post is me venting about Fileplanet.com and a warning anyone thinking of ever giving them any money.. If you don't care to hear me vent, please stop reading now..image

So I try to download the wish beta client...

When I try it brings me to a page saying I have to log in (when I'm already CLEARLY logged in).. then if I click the link to log in from that page, it brings me back to download page where if I click the link to download again it brings me back to the sign in page etc. etc. etc.... I've cleared all cookies and temp files and set my browser to allow cookies from both gamespy.com and fileplanet.com...image

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS WEBSITE! I AM A PAYING FOUNDERS CLUB MEMBER BUT IT SEEMS EVERY TIME I TRY TO DO SOMETHING ON Fileplanet.com I HAVE PROBLEMS AND ITS A CONSTANT HEADACHE. I've tried to contact their "customer support" on MANY occasions and either get some automated response back that does not help, or NO RESPONSE AT ALL...image

On top of this, when I did sign up for the founders club ($49.95), they charged me TWICE and when I attempted to contact their customer support (3 times!!) I NEVER received a reply.. I then tried to get some kind of phone number to call but of course they have none listed...image

So then I call the number listed on my credit card bill and its a recording saying to visit the website???!!! WTF?!image

I finally had to call my credit card and dispute the charges (wait for a dispute form, fill it out, send it back, wait for reimbursement etc...)

On top of all this, they have recently removed their "customer support" email form.. And replaced it with an FAQ section.. So now you cant even contact them by email if you have a problem..lol image

It seems fileplanet.com is just another overgrown corporation who has forgotten how to take care of its customers and only cares about making money and nothing for the people who have made it what it is...image sad..

I havent been to fileplanet since they started the whole pay-to-download better shit. When it was all just a free service it wasnt half bad. Now its just a fucking mess of a website. The webmaster-masters should all be castrated with the biggest metal poles anyone can find.....id pay to see that.

I usually like to go into The Gap and complain bitterly about the service I got at 7-11.

If your friends regularly hung out in The Gap, then yes, you probably would :)

Fileplanet/GameSpy seems to be very greedy to me.

I have the FREE version of GS and very very rarely use it.

The game downloads are few and far between except for perhaps only a few of the latest demos. I've gone back months later to see very few changes in their download lists.

They should have named "Fileplanet" - FILELESS Planet - due to the extremely LONG wait to download files from their web site.

At times I have had wait times in 16+ hours, at which I stopped the EXTREMELY LONG WAIT process and went elsewhere.

I refuse to pay to be insulted by their crap and pay for their crappy service.

On top of it all if you don't use MSIE (Microsoft Internet Explorer) you get all sorts of oddball messages and errors.

Then to really add insult to injury they have imbedded that security hole laden MSIE to GameSpy interface.

Add to that the "exclusive beta tests" that forkin' REQUIRE you to pay for GameSpy.

I refuse to PAY to download stuff from the internet since I pay my ISP (Internet Service Provider) in the first place.

    Therefore no GS Membership here.

It might be a little different if they actually gave you something worthwhile but alas... all fluff and not much content.

I downloaded it fine first time.

Would have been nice if the installation program wasn't corrupt.

I'll be buggered if I'm gonna download it again.

I don't know why you guys are having so many problems.

I have been subscribed to fileplanet for years and have never had a problem that could not be solved, i got the wish beta download just fine and i am using firefox.

When ever i have had a problem i have got a reply from there customer service within hours and they have given me good details on how to fix my problem.

    I rated it 8

your not alone on hating file planets way of forcing you to pay them to try something..it's like some sort of frat club where they think your a geek and the only way you can get in is if you can pay them.

Hmmmm weird ..... guess that file is just popular ;)

I started downloading from fileplanet as soon as the Wish beta was there, waited 40 minutes in a queue and then it downloaded at max speed for me :D 1.2 gb in 3 hours flat out.

I really cant see what all the fuss is about its a free service for christ sake :p

I've used file planet for years for those 2am download desicions :D and quite frankly its great that such a service exists for free. SO STOP WHINING !!!!!

Your fault for paying for retarded ass service.

Edit: Also, you can try contacting IGN about it which are the same company as fileplanet, since they merged awhile back. Same with Gamespy.

  • TheFighterTheFighter Member Posts: 90
yeh i dl it the first time and it was currupted as it only did 200mb i think or 1.2gb i cant remember, something with a 2 in it.. so i've tryed 2 more times and its both failed with different reasons.

  • CopelandCopeland Member Posts: 1,955

funny i've never given them a dime but everytime i use their service its flawless. Wish download worked like a charm. Even worked with my firefox browser.

If you have issues with firefox it might be your knowledge of the program and the various plug-in's and resources available. Firefox is not user friendly and only a handful of websites are actively supporting it at this point. It really takes about 4 hours of manipulation to make it net friendly for the hardcore user. I suggest reading their forums and learning its various weaknesses and how to work around them. Their is a plug in that allows you to change your profile and make sites think your using IE. Warning though if you accidently exit out of firefox before changing your profile back to default you wont be able to start firefox. You'll then have to delete your old profile and rebuild your settings. Its a real headache but thats the price you pay for security on the net these days. I still recommend firefox but you really need to read up on it if you plan to use it at this point.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who has problems with their service.  And yes, it appears there is NOBODY working at the customer service department because every one of my e-mails have gone un-replied to.

When it does work, it's great though.  Too bad those times seem to be few and far between.

Hmm, I did join for a free membership just to download files not found anywhere else.  I forgot about it and I haven't used it for a looong time.
