I haven't denied myself anything.  I play the things I can before RL comes in again.

and I played SWG pre-cu, thought it was the most craptastic peice of clap-trap I've ever played.

And I do play sandboxes. Playing Istaria right now actually while crafting, probably one of the most sand-boxy things out there.  And I still have an active sub to Vanguard that I step in once a week or so.  And those games aren't so casual it takes thousands of thousands of hours and work to get anywhere in those games.

Sheesh a t6 grand hall in Istaria needs something like 3 million resources.  Luckily I can do just a bit at a time, will likely take years to finish.

So no I'm not missing anything.

If the game offers me activities that fit my lifestyle and is enjoyable than it's win-win.  Better yet if they let me do anything significant in that time thats it's a definate win-win.  I get what I want, they get my money.

A wonderful slant on the need for themeparks, beautifully done.

Don't bother doing any dungeons or raids in your "themepark" unless you got 2 hours to spare.  And don't bother answering the phone, the door, doing anything but 100% concentration for 2 straight hours.  And if you leave for any reason expect to be kicked out of the group for being AFK in your "themepark" (wow clone), and when you're kicked out of the group before doing the "end boss" at the "themepark" (wow clone) you wasted all your time.

There's nothing casual about those games.

Just because the group you find yourself playing with are not understanding regarding RL stuff is not the fault of the game.

Joining a guild with common interest/situation will alleviate any of those issues you are having but blaming the 'game' on who you play with is illogical.

Thanks, this is a good reminder for me to pick a guild in line with my play style (or rather play reality) when Rift comes out.

It's been  a while since I played a themepark MMO and I guess I'll have to search for a casual RL friendly group, or risk a divorce. lol

It is 100% the fault of the game.  Someone in your group blows their noses in these wow-clones and everyone in these dungeon/raids has to take 5.  Doesn't matter if you join a Guild or not.

If you only had half an hour to spare a day you'd never get it done in a themepark.

It's not the game that kicks you (unless you crash) it's the group.  Find a group that won't kick you.

And with the blow your nose thing, sandbox is exactly the same way... why because it's the players.  I've been in loads of groups in Istaria where we are always taking breaks for someone RL issues.  Sometimes it's annoying but we do it because sooner or later I know it will be my turn.

Anyway my crafting is done, I'm tired, going to bed.

See you all later for more great mind expanding discussions (falls over laughing )

Try that in a WOW-clone and you will be kicked out of the group.   There is no room for error, nobody is going to put up with someone leaving because they have to take a bath, talk on the phone; and it doesn't matter if you're in a guild or not.

So the game kicked you for blowing your nose? What?

I know we tend to blame other things and not oneself but to blame a video game for who you associate within that game is just mind blowing.

'Yeah, that game really made me play with that group even though I didn't want to!'

'So why didn't you find another group that you liked?'

'Don't you see? The game FORCED me too! I can't associate with other people cause the game forbid me!'

    One last comment before bed.

Once again your wrong Nerf09.  It's the group you are with that determines if you will be kicked.  I run with some great friends.  We respect each other.  When someone needs a few minutes we give them.  If someone is going to be gone for a significantly long periods of time we expect them to tell us so we can plan accordingly.

No one would put up with someone leaving to take a bath, or talk endlessly on the phone.  However I can't tell you how many dozens of times I've had to tell the group to hold up cause the phone was ringing.  If I'm not back after a couple minutes I tell them this will be awhile then I myself back out of the group.

You must have run with some crappy people to have all those bad things happen.  Personally I would just find a good group.

I'm not seeing the 'agree' part.

I am sorry that you manage to group with some awful people though. 1 question, why didn't you find other like-minded nice people?

... themepark >< WoW clone.  Also, you're specifically describing end game material for WoW(clones).

Even if I was playing WoW (Which I'm not), I barely have time to play the game, there's no way I have to worry about doing epic 2 hour raids!

Early game in most theme parks is wonderfully well designed to give little 15-30 minute parcels of gameplay.  They're very efficient that way.

In many of the sandboxes I would  play if I had more time, 15-30 minutes won't even get me to the next location I want to be at. :(

Doesn't matter how good or aweful the group you are in, nobody is going to wait 30 minutes so you can jab on the phone, go to the store, take a shower, answer the door, or do anything else away from the keyboard.

There is nothing casual about Themeparks when you're in a group doing a dungeon or raid.

No.  I'm not talking about the very very very very very very end of these games, the raids.   The not so very very very veyr very very end of these games are the same in these wow clones as the raids, you need 30 minutes--2 hours of unbroken time and your undivided attention.
