Just wondering if it is possible to find some far off canyon or hidden area and actually live as a loner on this game? Actually rp some crazy hermit who hides from or attacks strangers :P
Could you actually survive well completely on your own? Can you actually move far enough from others you would be relatively isolated other than random explorers from time to time?
Sorry if silly questions but wondering just how much space there is and how much is possible
Comments
in short, yup.

You, my friend, are my kind of gamer!
I was thinking about this while considering the implications theis game's features offer, and I love the idea!
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
As far as I can tell yup. Just before the last wipe I found tons of off the beaten path places up in the mountains that fit that pretty good. Its exactly what I'm looking for too. Not to be a crazy hermit, but because i wann....ok to be a crazy hermit yeah.

This thread gave me +9001 interest in this game.
I have been surviving completely on my own since I started playing recently. I found a nice little place way up in the wilderness with some waterfalls nearby. I believe it will definitely be possible to do this. I plan to join a full tribe soon, just wanted to see if I could do it
I think you should make freinds with a giant bear and ocasionaly help solve mysteries in the closest settlement:)
Here is what I did yesterday in this game.
I was out getting some fish to eat near my tribal hideout and seen a neighbor cut down a tree and make some small logs. He grabbed one and started heading home with it (long ways off too). So I snuck in and grabbed one and took it off behind a tree a short distance off. Then I went back and grabbed another, then another, then another. By the time he got back for the 2nd hunk of wood there were only 3 left out of 18 in his stack. The rest were all hidden in the tall grass. I waited for him to look around while I hid, then he left. I spent the next hour carrying all my new logs back to my camp and set them up next to my fire. Ate my fish and chuckled at my good fortune. Fun fun.

I would like to play in a guild or tribe or whatever it's called on a main, then do the hermit thing on an alt. Sounds like fun.
This is awesome. This is what mmo's need much, much more.
This actually makes me really wanna try this game out.
Hilariously good ! ! !
OK these 2 comments were enough for me to say screw it and pre-order, may just turn out to be the sleeper
Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

I have yet to actually play this, but it really does seem like a sleeper hit. From what I can tell, it has a way to go before its a fully-featured MMO. But for ONCE, someone was building from the ground UP. I can live without raids and heavy PvP and intense combat and end-game, etc. as long as theres a strong crafting & economy system, etc. But I can't deal with it the other way around.
I am just loving the whole feel of this. It seems like this gaming world might actually feel ALIVE. And it could also be the RPer's lifeline in the genre.

Came so close to pre-ordering but the bears are smiling I cant play a game where the bears smile at you
Looks like Freedom & Roleplaying is back in mmorpg's. Awesome.

Are any of you playing this on less than a quad core. Don't know if my comp is powerful enough to play it,
Yep. Core2duo, xp64 and an 8800gt for me and it runs great. No stuttering/hitching on medium/high settings; 1680x1050 resolution. I haven't had any performance problems really. Quite nice after trying out Earthrise beta.
Nice. Thats slightly less than my set up. Played Earthrise beta as well, spent most of my time not beeing able to move. This is good news for me. Will be looking into picking up Xsyon on payday. Thank you for replying Worstluck.
It seems that this game is just what ive been waiting for. When I have time I will check it out.
Thanks for this thread, good to see some people actually like to play real mmoRPGs
This made me interested in this game too!
For those that are playing this game: it would be great if you could tell us some stories about your life as a loner in Xsyon (or as a RP-er in general)

MMORPG > MMOG.
Xyson certainly seems to be bringing the RPG element back to MMOs!

Stuff like that is a big selling point for me as game worlds that are conducive to that kind of gameplay usually have the tools and mechanics in place for more emergent and creative gameplay than most.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

You could indeed live as grizzly adams high up in the mountains, using your cuddly tamed bears to hunt along side you. You would probably need to set up some trade with other inhabitants, for example your animal skinned parts for their tools, or if your ruthless you could hunt the other inhabitants for what you need.
I personally love wandering in the snowy peeks exploring and then running for my life when a big grumpy bear decides i look tastier than the local fish... Xsyon has a great feeling of freedom, at no point have i found myself being pushed in any direction i didn't want to go in, i love it.
This should not be the selling point of the game for everyone who has posted so far.
Anyone who says that the OP can do what he wants like this, is straight up lying through their teeth or has not played the game for more than 15min.
This is not possible, nor will this be possible with the current game mechanics set in place. There are things that a person will absolutely need, that they can not get in just any place in the world. The Dev team has also designed the crafting system to where it is required that you interact with other players. During Prelude, this is slightly different because they need to test certain features. But, during launch you will not have access to all the crafting skills you have now. Even if you did, you would still need to frequently go to areas where there are trash to scavenge and gather in large quantaties to build pretty much anything.
Got a Game Idea? Look Here!
The OP didn't ask if they could make and do every single thing in the game, they asked if its possible to live as a hermit, attack strangers and survive alone, all being very possible.
What you are saying here is absolutely not true. We will have all the skills at launch, we will be able to train them but won't be able to master them all. It is definetely possible to set up your camp far up in the mountains. How do you mean they can not get in just any place in the world ? You can go whereever you want, there are no any limitations. If you want to be a solo player then start with toolcrafting, that way you'll be able to craft every tools that are needed for other crafts. Trash piles are literally everywhere. I have no idea why you got the impression that these things are not possible.
