First of all, I enjoyed Everquest 1 and everquest 2. I also played many years of WoW and still was playing untill I canceled my account 1 month ago. WoW is still a great game but even with the expansion It is still getting old, for me at last... Cartoon graphic is probably what I dislike the most, enjoying more the art style of eq 2 or any game having more realistic graphics.
This game is far from perfect... in beta to say the least... But is FAR from being mediocre at best. You can say whatever you want but this game is very wow alike, if you dont look at the graphics. UI pretty much look the same and the combats mechanics are the same... same then everquest... same then most mmorpg... There is no way to re invent the wheel... would have been cool to see some group combos.. like in everquest 2... but still the combat is pretty standard but its ok that way.
What I didnt like at first was the only 3 races available at the start for each faction, but you can customize your character pretty well and the soul system is pretty neat. I prefer having more "class" possibility then more races A la WoW. Ive not played the game long enough to know about the higher level content. Ive been playing all 4 archetypes just to get a hang of how they play. Ive been only past lvl 12.
Not been doing pvp as well. But to me, this game is refreshing... New world... New class... No more cartoon graphic for god sake.. This game is amazingly well polished for a beta 6. Will it suceed? probably, I dont know.
I used to be an hardcore fan of WoW and maybe still is... But for now im tired of playing the same game for 5+ years.. I love how wow plays... simple.. intuitive.. doesnt requier a hell of a computer to run it.. But after 5 years.. Classes are getting old.. graphics are getting old... the world if getting old...
I think ive found a new world, I know some people will hate this game because it look wow alike... and those will say its a pale copy of their so loved game... But who cares... This game got a lot of potential and I sure hope Trion will keep going in the right direction with their game. Only time will tell..

On the one hand I agree: the game is not bad and a new world to explore.
On the other hand: "explore" might be the wrong word, with two starting zones and, as far as I played, rather narrow zones. I like creating new characters to see how they look like, and how the classes feel like and so on, and with just a single starting zone for each faction, I get bored very quickly of that.
And, again: on the one hand I agree, when a game is fun it doesn't matter how much it copied. On the other hand: saying there is no way to reinvent the wheel in MMORPGs, and because of that creating clones of existing games is the only possible thing to do, is plain wrong. The best example is the combo point system that the use for rogues, which is identical to that of WoW. If you think that this is the only way to realize a rogue like combat in computers, then you just ain't a creative person. Which is no problem, because I suppose you are no game designer. But for games like Rift, the designers are probably creative too, but they just have the orders to take an existing system that works, to save time and money.
And you are right, WoW is getting old. It's still a good game, but the graphics age and if you played it a lot, you've just seen everything in it. But the sound, for example, doesn't age that quickly. And that is one category for example where WoW is superior to Rift in many ways, in my opinion.
So yeah, the game is alright. I'd probably buy it if it would have more starting zones, or more races, or more different talent trees or just more diversity in general. But so I just play the beta when I can.
