Worth Buying?

RenoakuRenoaku Member EpicPosts: 3,157

Okay I am bored, and looking to try new MMO games.

So is this game actually any fun, Is it worth placing my money here to try the game, or should I save my money?

I played fallen Earth, and it sucked.

Neocron 2, I kinda liked it.

Tabula Rasa I miss that game.

I am looking for some interesting details that might make me interested in this game, not sure I will buy it, but does it have a good crafting system, is it all limited, or boring game play?

Is Earth Rise a free loot pvp game?

The combat is similar to TR, the world is open however not zoned like TR. Skill system is something like EVE but you earn xp to buy your skills rather than learn over time. PvP is open apart from DMZs (De Militarised Zones) in city areas, I don't think it's full loot but if you die you will drop atleast one random item. You can insure items also.

Alot isn't in yet, they will bring in vehicles and territorial conquest in the next month or two along with structure building and mines for gathering resources. The performance is very poor for many so if you do buy expect to have lag and desync issues at the very least for the first month. I'm hoping they'll optimize it by March and we'll have the worst over with.

I'd say I'm not sure if it's worth buying now if you can't tough out the performance issues, if you find that thing too frustrating then hold off until March before buying. However next month if performance has been addressed and dealt with then this would be a must try for and ex TR fan. It's like playing TR whilst getting a blow job from Nicole Kidman ...... FACT!

ill give you an honest opinion, pass this game up for atleast some months.

The game is totally unplayable. 15FPS max with an ATI5870x2 and 8giga ram. The ping is post-apocalyptic.

The only things it can give you are promises. You can choose to trust them, stay hoping for a miracle,  or leave.

Agreed - do not play this game at the moment. You will get frustrated and feel like you wasted €50, I'll list a few things that you think would be in an MMO that has been released but isn't in this one:

    • No key mappings without going to the game's folder and editing config files manually

    • You can only change about 2-3 graphics settings and even if they are set to low it will most likely lag, no matter how good your PC is

    • If you try to kill people for loot in PvP they will teleport away by typing /unstuck (30 second cooldown)

    • Constant desynch issues - you will desynch and die to invisible mobs sooner or later, also note that when you desynch you will not see loot so you have to relog (which will most likely crash your client and your loot will be gone by the time you get in if other players are nearby)

    • Items do not stack in your inventory, you get a lot of loot (quest items/crafting stuff) and none of it stacks automatically, you have to drag and drop every item to stack them (thankfully there is a sort by name feature which helps a bit, although you can't sort your bank for some reason)

    • If you want to PK someone who is "friendly" you have to hold down the CTRL key to be able to hit them, even if they hit you first - this means that if you're chasing someone and wish to sprint and shoot them you have to hold down CTLR & Shift while moving your character and shooting with the mouse

    • You don't get "battle points" for PvPing, these are used to buy skills/armor which means you are forced to grind mobs or do low level quests (you can't grind higher level mobs that shoot because you will die)

    • Most players have received their pre-order/new purchase armors, putting them at a huge health advantage over someone who hasn't got the bonus armor (you will probably not get yours for a long time, seems support is completely gone right now)

    • The crafting "experience points" don't scale, so you get the same amount of points at all levels which means that crafting is extremely tedious at the moment

Those are just some examples I can think of in my head.

Don't go anywhere near this game.  It really is as bad as people say.

If you're bored in about 6 months... check back and see if it is still around and/or possibly in better shape.

The mmos' market being one of the most competitive field of the video game industry, if in two months the game hasn't been revamp/developped in a dramatic way, it will disappear.

The beta has been running for 6 months, and still, the result is horrifying. If they continue on this pace, when our 2 free months will be over, the whole game will run out of customers. As you said, EarthRise is as bad as people say, and I'll add that 80% of its community can't afford to pay for a game which is unplayable. A game relying on an economy driven by the players needs... players.

Don't buy it in it's current state.

For the $50 you'll get a game in early beta-status with alot of lag, instability, and bugs. In addition there's no other content yet but grinding quests and mobs allways in the risk of getting ganked and loosing all you've got with you.

I would bet a lot of people said the same things about Mortal Online and Darkfall. Darkfall is turning out to be a decent game. Mortal Online is still borderline. Neither game has died though.

Based on past history, Earthrise has a 50/50 chance of being worth buying (imo). I think this game is a "Wait and see." At the end of April or early May if it's still so iffy, stop watching it and move on.

I wouldn't buy it right now though.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I disagree completely. I bought both Darkfall and Mortal Online. In the case of MO, I was even beta tester. No comparaison can be drawn between Darkfall and ER. Darkfall was a game from the begining.

To a certain extent, we could compare ER and Mortal Online. Today MO is close to death, however at the end of its beta test it was still more advanced than ER is today. At all stages, MO did better than ER . MO was putted on the market too early, it should have been tested more longer. ER was putted on the market too early, it should have been developped 6 to 8 months more.

This game is not like Tabula Rasa at all. I loved TR. I was expecting something similar to it but no, this is garbage, don't waste your money.

The crafting system is broken. Look on the earthrise forums for details. Nodes havent been implemented either.

  • CaldrinCaldrin Member UncommonPosts: 4,505

See MO got away with being an unfinished game no where near ready for release and costing $50 so now everyone thinks they can do it..

I wont be going down that road again..

Ill check back in a year maybe and see what its like.. big shame as well i love sci-fi and i love full loot open worlds...

Nobody forces anyone to put in  there credit card details and bye these games. We choose too. wether they are ready or not. The indications are there before we bye or read reviews on these indie games.

ER had hardly any video footage, and the footage they did release was terrible. Yet people still preordered through over excitment.

You bought the game because you liked it and wanted to play it. Ok its a shame it might not be in a condition you like, so put it down wait a few months untill you here some posative feed back, pay another 10 bucks and start playing.

No need to hold these ubber grudges and loose out on the 50 bucks you spent. I was also very anoyed at MO's release, but I have been watching it and recently purchased a month. I'm playing it atm and its very fun and playable, how it should of been on release.

ER will get better with time, but if you choose top leave the bad taste in your mouth its you who have wasted the money imo.

( With all this said, I do understand games should not be released in such fasion. But they are, and we choose to bye them.)

I am a full on supporter of ER, they have delivered all of the functionality that they promised and I am having a blast.  With that said, I would also recommend you waiting a month or two before buying the game.  The server and client are both very laggy and have some pretty major bugs (desync).  Once they fix those issues any PvP fan will fall in love with this game.

Erm, no... they didn't deliver all the functionality they promised actually.

The crafting-system isn't working as intended so far, territorial warfare is not even implemented yet aswell as vehicles.
There's no guarded zones like promised, but only the cities themselves where you can't do anything.
The feature of offline-progression is missing totally and there's no mention of fixing this within the next time, so they actually scrapped complete parts of what they promised.

In addition to these big things they didn't deliver, there's not the slightest possibility for UI-customization like changing of keybindings or chat-windows etc.

Next thing what is totally different to what they told us during the years is the whole skill/gear-system, where skills and tactics don't matter at all, but only gear.

If you really think, that Masthead has delivered what they promised us, then you haven't followed thios game for the last three years apparantly.

again this pointless argument. no, no one forced to, but MHS tricked  people into getting it with all the candy they promised, even after reading reviews as a newcomer, someone might still decide to buy the game because all the hardcore fans claiming that game is very playable and worth checking out as to give a counter to everyone bashing it. And this is not an effect of an indie company trying something new, its an effect of very poor implementation, either due to lack of experience or other things, this is a horrible product even for a team of 2 developers. Good luck to LooserHead with their 80 people team, hope they wont have to pay too high of interest on the loans they took to sponsor this garbage.

You can have my Version of ER if you want? :D

I just checked out the ER forums after not going there for a few days and man....seems like it just gets worse.  There are many exploits, constant bunnyhoping with no reprecussions, not to mention that if you want to get away from a battle all you have to do is /unstuck.  There are still many people who can't even log into the game because of invalid password errors and are getting almost no support because they can't log into the game to submit a ticket.  They just have to send support an email and hope they answer it.  Just go to their forums and check it out, anyone can read them.  I was hoping to someday play this game, but I am beginning to think that will never happen lol.

I got the same opinion i have been keeping an eye on it with hopes that the early march patch will fix the fps sync and lag issues, but to be honest im not so sure, since launch on top of the fps, desync, lag issues, the lag has gotten worse so bad in fact that it takes 5 minutes for your char to show up on the launcher for you to select it, duping bugs, zones constantly crashing as much as i want to believe they can fix all this im starting to think they cant, those are alot of game braking issues and with the failure of delivering the fps/lag patch fix at the end of the beta things are not going good, despite them saying its not their

server hardware or infrastructure thats causing the servers to go down and the lag, im sorry but at launch char selecting was working fine, and now its not because of lag yet you say its not a server or hardware issue.........as much as i like the game and the devs at this point their being delusional, sounds like their server hardware and software is not able to scale as well as they predicted, yet more people are still buying the game for now, so the more people the worse the lag has gotten they just dont want to admit it, at this point the game breaking issues outweigh the potential sad to say.

It seems that both MO and ER were lightly tapped with a golf club on the putting green in attempt to place them in the market. It also appears that this occurred too early.

    Fascinating.
