Yesterday's DICE convention has revealed interesting news on many fronts but one of the most enticing tidbits was tossed out via Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime. It's no secret that Blizzard is working on a new MMO currently called "Titan". In the past several months, folks have speculated that Titan is actually just a cover name for a Diablo or Starcraft MMO. Morhaime, while not denying those rumors, shed a bit of light on Titan.
"Without giving away any details, we have some of our most experienced MMO developers, people who spent years working on the World of WarCraft team, working on this project," Morhaime said. "We're really trying to leverage all the lessons we learned through the years. Some of which we were able to address in World of WarCraft and others that maybe because of the design decisions we've made, you just can't address. So we're kind of taking a step back with all that knowledge to make something that's completely new and fresh. We're not trying to make a WoW sequel." In fact, he explained that the two titles will co-exist in the future.
In statements made during interviews, Morhaime indicated that Titan will be roughly divided in two: An area for battle and questing with a second are for more social events.

Actualy, this is one of the best news IMO in the MMOS world since we learned about Guild Wars 2. Funny to hear that Blizzard wants to start from scratch to be able to adress some of the WoW issue while Bioware just said that SW:TOR will be WoW with some standard Bioware features. Anyways, they are an awesome game developpers(being bored of wow or not, you can't deny this), and I can't wait to see what new ideas they have for Titan.
It's kind of funny that everybody else is going "ZOMG WE MUST COPY WOW", while Blizzard is saying that they need to -not- copy WoW.
Ahh..so they are going a GUild Wars route where the Questing/Battle areas will be Instanced. That's great news, I prefer that style. It allows the developer to tailor each instance to the INdividual player or Group that decides to enter it.
It also allows for quicker games as most of the time you can be told how long each Quest/Mission is going to take.
There is also nothing stopping them from having 'Open World' areas as well I suppose.
Another game that is similar to this is Dungeons and Dragons online.
Blizzard already has a WoW, it doesn't need another.
WoW is a fantasy game, Titan is to be a sci-fi game, they could have easily gone "WoW In Space, Done" and expected the WoW popularity to translate to sci-fi fans being drawn to it. After all, that's what other companies are doing.
This is what impresses me about blizzard. They look at the current market and try to address what is missing. Aiming for something new and fresh and not just reskinning wow is the right way to go. Hopefully they deliver on that.
I really dont like sifi based mmos and it was the instanced zones in GW that put me off it, not a good start:(
"Social areas"
I miss old SWG where you could pop in a cantina and listen to someone playing (semi-self-created) songs, listen to other travelers tails about what they've done and been. And then there's the whole bit of "make-up artists" that's just facinating.
But crafting? I miss crafting. I miss "real" crafting, where the things you created had some actuall use (house builder? tailor? colors???).
But anyhoo ... Diablo 3 first :P
Yeap, all the latest big releases of Blizzard had Greek mythology entities for code-names.
@Daffid011, I don't know if that's the right approach, I hope the design the same way they designed WoW vanilla without making the same mistakes, making it a bit more sandboxy and with better graphics.
Anyway, i think there something more interesting about Morhaime's talk on DICE, he talked a bit for the sociality of Titan. There is an article about that "sociality of Titan and a past relavent leak, you should check it out, http://www.blizzmmo.com/topic/58-blizzards-titan-heavily-focused-on-the-social-aspect/
About the social areas and stuff check the Titan MMO wiki, it also has a good summary on the game info so far.
Can't wait for Blizzard's Titan MMO!
Most experienced MMO developers because they spent years developing WoW. LOL
Yeah because WoW is such an advanced MMO, haha.
This game will be the same type of chewing gum game as WoW. Shallow, easy, casual POS.
My gaming blog
I just like this situation how they make it look like BioWare is 8 years behind ,maybe they are.
Generation P
WoW and Titan are going to be competitors, and this will cause a rift among Blizzard employees, and there will be a badass Westside Story rumble. Guaranteed.
blizz knows, after 10 years it's time for a change :>
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
Don't like the word "questing" too much, but oh well. Imo, it's obviously good idea to go for the instance and small grouping heavy style, as that's what WoW could easily be and essentially is after addition of dungeon finder tool and other changes. That's what Diablo was too. It's a lot easier to work with and pleases the majority, most likely. Might be that large, (almost) seamless, living worlds are a thing of past, if they ever even were. It's pointless to wait for something like Everquest, WoW classic or Vanguard to come up in any reasonable time frame, if Titan will be heavily instanced. No-one that has enough funds to make a game like that would never dare to go for such niché market anymore. Indies will make the best they can, but we are seeing how they don't have the resources to build decent games content and tech wise, and they lack the healthy amount of theme parkiness.
I swear if this game, on the area he so called "social", has anything remotely connected directly or indirectly to either twitter, facebook or the likes... I wont touch that crap!
Sick tired of everywhere I look in this world, to see those networks of mindless idiotic people around.

my best guess is that they let the info about titan out so that the starcraft 2 mod mmo will loose some support and increase billizards reaconizeabilty i mean there well known for wow and starcraft but this is just too keep everyone entertained and paying attention till they release diablo 3
titan is mostlikely the codename for starcraft mmo i mean they already know it is what the fans want and they didn't deny it they just said it will not be a wow clone
/snapsfingers!
omg HA HA. I had to text my room mate that
Yeah, they haven't denied it.....more than a million damn times when they've repeatedly said NEW IP.
Besides Titan being a new IP, there's also a rumor going around from people who own WoW fan-sites and know people in Blizzard, that Blizzard is experimenting with making Titan a FPS MMO. If they see that it won't work for them then they might switch back to 3rd person.
Agreed.
Is it really?
That is just a guess, the leak said a MMOFPS called Titan, not anything about the setting. People assume that Titan means space but it is coming from Greek mythology and could be almost anything.
Fantasy, hitorical, space, cyberpunk, WW2, steampunk...
While some kind of sci fi game is slightly more likely the setting could as well be ancient Greek unless you have an actual quote from a Blizzard employee saying something else.
We know very little about the game still, the name, MMOFPS and what Morhaime just said, that is it.
I was under the impression the pre-release code-names for all the Blizzard projects were named after Greek mythology? Like wasn't Diablo 3 Medusa, or something like that?
So he speaks up but says next to nothing. A few buzzwords, "we've learned from our mistakes", "its not Wow 2.0", he likes playing i-Phone games with his friends.
From now on I'm renaming Morhaime to Xebeche: "He Who Talks Loud, Saying Nothing"
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
Ah, you are correct. My mistake. Medusa was Starcraft 2. Anyway... yeah, somebody at Blizzard has a Greek Mythology riff going.
