Ok so, yesterday I rolled up my character and I had to choose starting skills. From what I understand, the ones you choose start at 25 while others 5.
My question is, will I be penalized for choosing skills I want to change later? Let's say I choose fishing at start, can I change later and still max out the new skill without penalty? Does that make sense? I know that the ones you choose at start won't go below 25 but is there anything else I should know?
I just don't want to bork my character next week.

I don't know the answer but i did the same thing, in hopes of landing a fishing rod upon creation, which happened... so I could at least eat
You can learn anything you want as long as you have the correct tools for the job.
Remember though that anything you dont do regularly you will face stat loss for.
I'm also wondering about this. Will only people that choose a certain profession be able to specialize in the best things to do with that profession? Or will everyone get the opportunity? I hope it's the former, not the later.
Ok so, the max skill level is not dependant on what you choose at creation? I know that the ones you choose at start never drop below 25 but do starting skills affect skill max at all?
I guess what I'm asking is, is there the potential to get ALL skills to the same MAX level if I work on them regardless of which ones I start with? And by all I don't mean at the same time, I just mean potential.

Exactly. Is specialization dependant on starting skills?

when starting a new character choose skills that you want to have the tools for when starting the game, since yes they will not penalize you wanting to max a different skill. all they do is give you the tool and start you at lv 25. so don't be afraid if you pick something you dont like later.
good ones to start with is fishing (for a fishing pole so you can find food easy) and possibly terraforming because shovels are kinda hard to make.
You can specialize in any skill you want. The most important thing is to choose stats to fit profiession you want to be.
To me choosing starting skills will only give you tools and higher skill score to start the game.
Ok thanks.
So next question would be, if you mess up your starting stats will THOSE change over time? See, I'm really interested in taming but it's not in game yet. What if I put my stats into something else, can my stats migrate too?

A few more questions:
How fast is the skill decay?
How does the process of leveling actually work?
(sorry if im a bit off topic)
Yes, they will change, they will raise when you use skills that depend on them and drop when you don't, your stats will also drop when you're starving or are overeaten for long time.
Ok awesome, thanks! My plan will work then...MUHAHAHAHA...oh wait...

Skill decay is not enabled yet, only stat decay. It should be minor just to prevent maxing all the skills.
There are no classic levels in Xsyon, when you get enough experience, you get 10 additional skill points to distribute, in future you'll be able to get stat points instead.
Skill cap needs to be in at release.
We all saw how that single handedly destroyed Darkfall....
You cannot go back and cap it after you release the game. Too many powergamers involved and it just creates a mess.

I agree soft cap and skill decay must be in on release and will be as far as I know.
I agree. Game needs a skill cap system in place for right after the 18th wipe.
That's good news! Thanks
