Never played EQ, Trying the TLP server

jdnewelljdnewell Member UncommonPosts: 2,237

I never got the chance to play EQ back in the day. My 1st MMO was DAoC which I started on launch day and got hooked immediatly lol. So EQ got missed.

I am a fan of the older MMOs and figured why not, I am downloading the game now which I bought for $19 bucks with 30 days of time. Figured play a little on a live server now to get used to the game UI and mechanics. I was thinking about playing a Bard as I love those classes and have heard EQ did the Bard class very well.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated =)and anyone else wants to add me to friends I will post my char name when it goes live. Starting with a few people would be fun.

    Welcome to EQ!

The bard is a great class.  It`s never been done as well as EQ1.  I only dabbled in it previously but am thinking of rolling one this time around for Fippy.

Be sure to come over to the new server forums @ www.fippydarkpaw.com and introduce yourself.  EQ is known for it`s community for a very good reason.

Most important command for a bard... the /melody command

    Make a macro that does /melody 1,2,3,4

That would play your songs on your spellbar from 1-4.  You can alter it, say you have 6 songs loaded, but want to make a special one to play the songs you have on 2, 3, 5, and 6th spells.  The melody macro would look like:

    /melody 2,3,5,6

What that does is it'll play those songs continuously over and over, which is what a bard is supposed to do.  A bard should always keep the songs up as the songs are very important buffs & debuffs.

Bard is a versatile and truely unique class.

You have songs for any occasion, group low on mana ? mana song, oups caster mob incommin ? resist songs, oups add mobs incommin ? sleep/control songs, healer afk ? invisibility song, travel song .. and combinations of those.

Advice ? Alot, but here is a few, don't panic, be social, ask questions, make friends, explore the game, have fun, dont eat the green spotted mushrooms.

    See you in Norrath.

ps. Happy to help with advice ingame, if you like pm me here when you have a name (I am playing european hours).

I'm starting tuesday as well, without zero experience playing EQ, and I'm going to start bard as well! I read up a bit about the class, and people seem to say, that it's one of the heavily grouping oriented classes and it's also hardest to master alongside with the enchanter. Also noteworthy is, that it seems races that weren't present in classic will not be available until later. Not 100% sure about that. For bard these races would be Vah Shir and Drakkin. I was going to choose Vah Shir, but realized I possibly can't , so Wood Elf is my plan B.

What a blast it's going to be to play on the progressive server. I haven't played this game in ages.

Anyone know of a good custom UI? Or are they not allowed?

A lot of the people like this UI:  http://www.theconcerthall.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=23

Edit:  I double checked with the UI author and he says it'll work just fine on Fippy.  Here's his response on EQ's forum:

Does anybody know if Savok's UI will work on Fippy?  With tons of stuff turned off, would the UI give problems?

Yes it will work, some feature will be turned off client side but the UI will be fully functional as things unlock per expansion. It would be the same as if you bought classic, then RoK, then SoV etc.

Correct, race that came out in expansions will not be there at launch.  They'll become available when the said expansions open.
