Bought a new mic to talk on ventrilo with, two plugs one black which i have in my headphone jack and a pink mic wire which i have in a pink jack next to it, i can hear through the headset perfectly, but i cant speak with it, however when i plug in my webcam and talk (mic on cam) i can speak, im guessing my computer has my webcam mic set as its default? Ive been on control panel and the only mic options are logitech mic (my cam) and soundmax hd audio? Thanks for any help

Getting mics to work just right can be tricky.
First off, make sure your in the correct jack in the back of the computer. It ~should~ be pink as well, but there really isn't any standard for this color coding that anyone has to adhere to. Hopefully it's labeled (usually very tiny and hard to see) MIC. It isn't advisable to use the LINE IN jack, although it may be possible depending on your microphone.
Next, assuming you have Windows 7 (and maybe Vista) - open up
Control Panel: Hardware and Sound: Sound: Manage Audio Devices
Click on the Recording Tab
There all of your inputs should be listed. If you speak into the mic (loudly, as the gain may not be adjusted properly yet), you should be able to see the volume meter to the right of the device move as you speak. Select your new mic as default, and you can adjust the gain (via Properties: Levels) to suit your needs.
If nothing happens, check your cable again, try a different jack, check your audio drivers, and try it on another computer if possible (it could be just a broken mic?).
