So here we are roughly 2 weeks away from the month of the supposed release of PlanetSide Next and there's virtually no information anywhere about the game. To my knowledge all we have is the statement from Sony saying the game is set to release in March and a few images that you can't even call screenshots. There's no trailers, developer interviews, features list, list of improvements made over the first iteration of the game, nothing. A lack of advertising is one thing, but to not be able to find any information whatsoever when you go looking for it throws up a ton of red flags.
The way I see it there's basically three possible ways this could play out. The first is that they take out BFR's and put Next at the end of the title and re-relase pretty much the exact same game in an attempt to increase subscriptions. The second is that the game releases no where remotely close to March. The third is that they release a broken game and you basically pay to play a beta for the first six months or so.
I've never seen such a lack of information for a game that's supposedly so close to being released. I'd say they're trying to generate hype for the game, but you'd have to actually throw people a bone to generate hype and I don't think saying the game is coming out in March and showing us a picture of a tank qualifies for that. What do you guys think?

Its $OE, what did you expect, them to do something right?
The Brave Do Not Fear The Grave
I think yet more hopes and dreams are about to be crushed as yet another MMO giant takes a titanic dump on the industry whilst simutaneously whofting the stench into our disgruntled faces. Basically.
I was really looking forward to another Planetside, but now that you put it like that, well... March? Nah... Nothing to see here folks.
The announcement of the title/beta is going to be in March, not the release date. I'd love it if that were the case, but the post on Smed's blog was very ambiguous.
You do know almost every single release date is pushed back, right?
I would have to say that until I see more evidence of anything real, Planetside Next is vaporware. Sad, but a few screens of concept art do not make a game and certainly not for a release date next month.
I'd love to eat these words, but I doubt I'll have to.
er, March next year I thought?
Yes that is more realistic date than this March - that is a few weeks away.
Yeah, except you can usually actually read about the game's progress and features despite it being pushed back. There's virtually no relevant information floating around about the game, which is ridiculous for a game that's supposed to be out in under a month regardless of whether or not it's going to be pushed back. Don't be dense, this situation is nothing like a standard game release push back.
I originally thought this as well, but all the gaming websites that covered smedley's statement regarding the game's release date pointed toward a march 2011 release date.
NEED MORE INFO....RAAAAWR
I am not a fan of SOE, but damnit, I want to play the next incarnation of Planetside. Curious as to why they are doing things like this. Who knows, it's SOE, they never seem to make great decisions. Seriously though, need more info!
I think that keeping everything on the "down low" is actually a good idea.
I have seen many games be torn apart before they are even released by the negative rumors and press from a few in-informed people.
PS was never a high population game. I think that they are looking at it as this:
1. They know that a majority of former PS players are going to buy it. I know i will. Sounds like everyone that ever played it loved it even with the problems it had.
2. If a large percentage of former players buy it and stick with it for a few months, they will make the money they need to develop it.
3. Once it is released and people see that it DOES deliver the action and fun that we wanted it to, there will be plenty of time for the press to catch up.
4. They KNOW that it is good and the KNOW that bad press now could hurt the game.
SOE has had a lot of people mad at them over the last decade or so yet they still have a very large subscriber base.
I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt.
While i enjoyed BFR's I also know that they are definitely not in the new game. Too many people hated them. And Smedley has already said they are out. I can't find it right now but i think it is over at www.Planetside-universe.com . He also talked about a few other things that are definitely out.
Either way I think the Screenshots look great and I am definitely going to be playing. I was there on day 1 of the first game (even though it was a bit buggy) and i will be there for the first day of PS2.
At least we know that 75% of the players are not going to be on dial up like we were in 2003.
I highly doubt that if someone even said it they meant RELEASE in March. It is much more likely that the Alpha or Beta will start then, or maybe even just an annoucment about when Alpha or Beta will release.
I am super excited about this game which is a bad idea for an MMO, but I can not help myself.
This website and any other you'd care to look up point toward a march 2011 release date.

The specific quote from SOE in that article reads "We have a very big launch coming in the month of March," Smedley said. "It's a big first person shooter franchise that we're really happy with." I suppose if you really want to get technical he could've meant March of any year, not this one specifically, but that would be a copout and a really misleading way to announce the game. If Smedley did mean March of next year that would go further than people simply misunderstanding him, it means he purposely tried to confuse people.
I don't doubt that planetside next could be released in march. Heck I got an email almost a year ago saying, what would you like to see in planetside 2? Realisticly, a game of this size, wouldn't be that hard to work on. I'd say it'd take a year, maybe less. Up the graphics alittle bit, add new stuff, tweak the shooting elements by adding hit boxes, add some polish, slap a sticker, done. PS is an amazing game, I'd resubscribe if I knew the player-base and pop still existed. I'm sure probably 50 players exist on the one server now, I'd strongly play this game (or next) over any other. Period.
Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.
Playing - PS2, AoW, GW2
i'm excited about PSnext because by the time i could have gotten into planetside it was already too late to join in during its prime. but this is my chance to start when subs are high and the graphics are fresh and junk! personally i don't care if it's march this year or not, just so long as when it is released i can play and not miss out again.
